Yes, Apple wont flip to "Shipped" until it clears customs in Kentucky - most likely overnight into Thursday. UPS is of course, tracking it all the way from ZZ because it has to, but Apple is what it is.

I was able to do it last year at my CC, but I had to wait until Thursday to request they hold it. Was really close for comfort, but it went through.

No, they usually don't come until a few days after the phones arrive. Mine usually come via FedEx.

Yup. The phones aren't even officially "in-country" until the customs scan.

I'm curious about that. I do know I have never risked trying to have it sent to the UPS Store because I'm pretty sure it'd arrive there after the truck would have already delivered it to my home.

The CC was the only place i could guarantee it'd be available on Friday morning, and that's why I've always chosen to pick it up there when I was in town on Launch Day.

Interesting...mine never has, for phones or any other device. I always get my trade in kit as a separate shipment with a different tracking number, usually from FedEx.

I also don’t trust the people at my local UPS Store. They tend to misplace things of value…
