Has Apple changed how they do trade-ins in the last couple of years? I've seen people say you can order online, trade in your old phone in store and have the credit applied to the 16.

I ask because two years ago when I bought the MBA M2, Apple for some reason was unable to send me a trade-in kit for my old MBP. After numerous attempts to get one sent, I finally went to the Apple Store to turn it in. I was told that online and in-store were separate entities and that while they could give me a gift card in-store, they couldn't apply the trade to my online order. It turned into a whole frustrating ordeal (that fortunately ended up working out in my favor).

Anyway, I pre pre-ordered the standard 16 last night. It will be my first new iPhone at launch since the 6. I've been rocking the SE 2 the last three years. Prior to that I had a 7+ that I bought a year after it came out. I held out as long as I could for Touch ID to return lol.

I guess I'm going to hope Apple can actually send me a trade-in kit this time for the SE.

Then trade in when you want.
There seems to be some confusion as to whether this is allowed. Some people are saying that if you’re doing in store pickup you have to hand over your trade in device right then and there. Others are saying you can choose to ship it later like you would if your new device was delivered.

I did my pre-order Monday just like I did the last 5 years. Last year, it took me THREE hours to finalize it on that Friday morning and missed launch day by almost 2 weeks. I kind of expect that same thing tomorrow morning.

It seems Apple is never ready for this.

.

I did my pre-pre-order on Monday evening and got the 256 GB iPhone 16 Pro Max in Natural Titanium. I really wanted to get the black, but the natural titanium best matches my Apple Watch Ultra 2 and I go cashless. I want the black watch, but I am not upgrading to the same thing in a different color so maybe next year I can get the black watch and a black phone to go along with it.

As do I. The frustrating thing is my partner always gets in right away, while it takes me like 20 minutes. Every. Single. Year. Same house. Same connection. Both using the app. Etc.

I have the pre-order set up, I think I remember I can use the balance on my Apple Store account as a purchase option, correct? Even though I have a default CC on my account, I think it asks how I want to pay at time of the order? Thanks!

Same here, almost.... My assistant, in the next office, got it immediately and order completed in seconds with launch day delivery...........same network, same ISP...

I’m kind of sad that I won’t be able to do the usual flight tracking this year. I have to do in store pick up. My kid started Kindergarten and UPS always comes when I’m picking them up.

I mean is it a money-saving thing?

The iPhone 16 Movement...

Once our orders move to process we should start seeing some movement to 'Preparing For Shipment' over the weekend. This usually happens Saturday evening or Sunday afternoon (PST time).

Once this happens you should be able to get details on your phone and let the tracking begin!
Here are some notes to help track orders:
If your phone status has changed to "Shipped", you can view the invoice on the Apple site.
That invoice has the serial number on it.
Go to Apple.com, then pick the ORDERS page (the little "shopping bag" icon at the far right on the home page... go to your orders page). Now, login, find your iPhone order... and click on Print All Invoices to see your shiny new iPhone serial number.

Another way to find it, enter your phone number + zip:
Track your UPS shipments here using your reference number
If your phone number isn’t working for UPS tracking, use your order number but subtract the last two numbers/letters. For example: Say your order number is: W123456789, You'd put in: W1234567 - make sure to use the tracking by reference feature.

Apple today announced the iPhone 16 Pro and ‌iPhone 16 Pro‌ Max—its latest flagship smartphones—featuring larger displays, an all-new Camera Control button, and the A18 Pro chip.

16 pro

The ‌iPhone 16 Pro‌ has a 6.3-inch display, while the ‌iPhone 16 Pro‌ Max features a 6.9-inch display – the biggest iPhone display ever. The borders around the display are the thinnest of any Apple device. The titanium frame now features a new blasted finish and a refreshed selection of color options: a darker Black Titanium, brighter White Titanium, Natural Titanium, and a new Desert Titanium.

The new devices contain the A18 Pro chip with Apple Intelligence support. It is faster and more efficient than the A18 in the iPhone 16 and ‌iPhone 16‌ Plus. The A18 Pro is made using 2nd-generation 3nm technology and offers a new 16-core Neural Engine with 17% more memory bandwidth. Apple Intelligence tasks run up to 15% faster than on the A17 Pro. A new, faster 6-core GPU runs up to 20% faster than A17 Pro. A new 6-core CPU with two performance cores and four efficiency cores is 15% faster and 20% more efficient than A17 Pro, with next-generation machine learning accelerators. It also supports faster USB-C speeds and two-times data processing for video encoding.

A new "Fusion" 48-megapixel camera and refreshed camera interface offer a 2nd-generation quad-pixel sensor, with 0 shutter lag for 48MP ProRAW and HEIF photos. There is also a 48-megapixel ultra wide camera for the first time, with a quad-pixel sensor with autofocus. The 5x tetraprism telephoto camera is also now present on the ‌iPhone 16 Pro‌.

The Camera Control is a dedicated, flush sapphire crystal button with haptic feedback dedicated to camera app functions. Clicking the Camera Control launches the camera app. Clicking again takes a picture, while clicking to hold records video. The Camera Control also offers touch gestures, allowing it to distinguish between a click and a lighter press. A light press reveals a new clean preview to help users focus on framing the shot, while a new overlay allows for quick access to camera functions like zoom. Users can press lightly twice to see other controls and slide to the preferred one. The camera app also has intelligent audio treatment to reduce wind noise.

The Camera Control also gains Visual Intelligence, a new Apple Intelligence feature exclusive to the ‌iPhone 16‌ lineup. Visual Intelligence is invoked by the Camera Control, allowing users to point their ‌iPhone‌'s camera at something and pull up contextual details such as information about a restaurant, as well as take actions like filling out a calendar event.

Which color, size, and storage?

Are you going to upgrade your iPhone 15 this year?
Not really enthusiastic about the 16. BTW seems there’s a few folks missing around here this go-a-round, what’s up with that?

My Apple Store trade-in 2 years ago went very smooth and they even told me I didn't have to trade-in my device that day when I picked up my new phone. They didn't tell me I had to mail it in or anything like that either. I think everyone can relax about the trade-in process. It's as easy as you make it tbh.

**ETA: Also helps if you get reps who know what they're doing so fingers crossed everyone has a smartie :)

I’ve seen mixed comments about in-store pickup/trade-in. I haven’t picked up an iPhone in-store in probably five years. Since my UPS deliveries always arrive at night and I have weekend plans, I considered store pickup as an option because I could do it when the store opens. However, the thought of standing in the store and transferring things or setting up the phone definitely makes me hesitant about choosing in-store pickup.

After reading this thread, I'm leaning towards doing in store pick-up. I usually go for delivery, but for some reason, UPS doesn't show up in my area until after 7 or 7:30 pm, which makes for a very long day.
Same whew. I have the pre order set up. Can I still add in store pickup before purchasing. The Apple store is about 10 min away from me

I've never gone through Apple, always through Verizon. Didn't realize Apple can link up with carriers. On the page both delivery and pickup are showing unavailable. Is that just since preorder hasn't started? If I do delivery do they give me something to ship back in or doi need to visit the store? Also do I have to pay anything up front or add long as it's covered by trade in and carrier deal I'm set? Thanks!

You can set up the pre order. Click finance and it will bring up all the carriers. Very last one is Verizon and it will verify your account. If you are trading in it will give the total discounts, ask if you want to put money down and then to total amount due.

Delivery and to pickup won’t be available until tomorrow. Yes you’ll get a box
