Yea I am wary of UPS now after they lost my 14PM 2 years ago and i had to jump through hoops to get my upgrade reset and my replacement phone ordered 2 1/2 weeks later I decided to pick-up in store. I went after work last year and it was a smooth process. gonna do the same this year. luckily I’m in a metro area with tons of stores so I’m not worried about slots.
My 🤬 new UPS driver refuses to walk or drive down my driveway to my door. The last time I ordered something from Apple even though Apple didn’t require a signature he did, so although I was sitting by my front door waiting, I got 2 sorry we missed you messages. On the 3rd day I had to chase him all over the neighborhood. He’s very nasty. We’re very rural here and the Apple Store and UPS store are far. Don’t know what I’m going to do to get my phone.

That’s terrible. I know you prob don’t have the time to ask but it would be nice to know why he won’t come down your drive. This is ridiculous, especially as you don’t have other options.
Its the absolute worst to track a truck all day to suddenly see a sorry we missed you message when you have been sitting home waiting.

I always have the app and the desktop page ready to go. Last year, the app wouldn’t load but the site was up just fine.
last year was a nightmare for me in the app. didn’t open until 10-20 mins after and then kept freezing on the checkout process. long story shorter, my preorder was set to deliver a month later. hopefully this year is better.

I had this issue as well- didn’t get in until 8:30am but was able to get pickup at a store close to me. i also hope this year is better.

I had a huge fight with him and reported him. Don’t know whether he was sanctioned for being so rude to me. All he said with a really aggressive manner was, I’m not walking down your driveway! I’ll have to watch my security camera all day, ugh.

That sucks. Except for the 1st year I was on the IUP, the app has worked well for me. I hope you have a better experience this year.

same here, i was able to find one in store a day after launch and cancelled my preorder.

Hi All-

Wanting to get either some direction or confirmation on the best way to preorder tomorrow. I’m part of the upgrade program and have already been preapproved.

In the past years I typically just go to the iPhone app but have never been able to get in until at least 10-20 minutes after the preorder started leading to missing the launch day delivery.

So my question to the group is:

Is it better to open the app just before the 8AM EST and just leave it open or should I be opening and force closing it over and over again? Or should I only open the app a few seconds past 8AM EST?

I’ve been doing this for several years now and keep thinking I’m missing something.

Thanks in advanced for any advice!
I open and force close and open until it’s ready, for me always late but not by much, a few minutes.

As do I. The frustrating thing is my partner always gets in right away, while it takes me like 20 minutes. Every. Single. Year. Same house. Same connection. Both using the app. Etc.
Funky. For the past couple or 3 years I get the order in about a minute after the Apple store opens in the app. Hope tomorrow will be the same.

I'm not as familiar with the app, where's the best spot to wait it out? The "devices for pre order" section?
You should just open the app and if the Apple store is not ready then you "Force" close the app. If you completed the "Get Ready" steps you should set your app to the For You screen and then close it tonight when it opens your Device(s) will be listed in the top tile on the page in a box with instructions about coming back tomorrow.

I just went into the app and Apple sent a message that wasn't there earlier, "you're ready for iphone preorder on 9.13", not sure if it looks different or not, but the blue notification dot under "for you" was not there before.

UPS does not allow it's drivers to drive on your driveway (short or long). The "Signature" decision is actually up to the driver. They can always require a signature even if the shipper (Apple) in this case does not require a signature.

How long is your driveway?

This is the first UPS driver who has refused to come to my front door so I doubt UPS has a policy about that. And when I reported this guy the high up person was angry and said that should never have happened.

As others have said, I always open and force close the app until it pops up. I'm usually able to get in right when it starts, or just a couple of minutes in. If "got ready" for pre-order, that will help once the store opens for you.

Have to admit I'm a bit nervous, up until now I purchased in the Apple store, although it's not the great experience it once was, my store no longer applauds the first customers of the day. With that being said, I kept up with all the website woes on launch days, but not obsessing about the horror stories, I'm just rolling with it at this point.

Been a while since I've done a preorder through Apple. Can I do the "get ready" option and preconfigure everything for Verizon for two phones up front or do I need to wait until tomorrow morning to do multiple phones?

Yes you can complete the "Get Ready" steps with a Carrier selection, It should also ask you to provide your Carrier PIN if your account requires it or the last 4 of your SSN if required.

You also want to check your account in the app to make sure you Shipping address is updated and your Payment choice is updated if it has been a while since you used the Apple Store app.
