I suspect that final ratio will be around 60% for iPhone 6 and 40% for iPhone 6 Plus.

Before anyone goes on a rampage attack against why one would get one over the other, I think it's clear that if you have the means to carry it, 6 Plus isn't that unwieldy, and having a big screen and longer battery can be very nice.

Imagine if Apple made only 13-inch and 17-inch MacBook Pro. 17" would've been a lot more popular (instead of commanding less than 10% of the overall MacBook Pro marketshare before being discontinued altogether).

My belief is initially we will see a larger demand for the iPhone 6 Plus until the smaller percentage of ones who want one get one in their hands. Then a slight reduction in demand as time goes on. Even before, a lot of people based on surveys, the largest percentage of people bought 5" screen or under. I think we will see this too.

It very doubtful the 17" would be more popular then the 13". The 13" MacBook still outsells the 15".

The 6+ is too big for my hands, but I ordered one and figure it'll be fine as long as I use a case with a wrist strap. There has to be some kind of back-up protection if I'm going to have to juggle my phone!

I just want an iPhone, not an iPad-phone.

Then stay away from the fictitious iPad phone than doesn't exist.

----------

I knew this! I don't think that factor will change much when apple catches up production levels with demand.

...really, oghowie? I have the 6, which is a little too big in the pocket, and can't one-hand it well, not without rearranging my hand so I can't grip it and it feels like I'm going to drop it. I still wish they would have gone with 4.3" instead, could have one-handed that...but, otherwise the iPhone 6 is superb!!

I've not yet understood the appeal to anything bigger than the 6...for a phone, it's a phone for kcuf's sake! I have an iPad Mini for when I want a larger screen.

The appeal is to not need an iPad at all, obviously.

I don't know why anyone wouldn't want the 6 plus. I guess to each their own.

I agree.

Frankly I dont have the slightest idea why I bought one.

Even more puzzling is that it fits in my pocket easily, it's comfortable to hold and use.

If that's not bizarre I don't know what is... :)

If this is true, we may only see one 5.5" version next year (New 6+ or 6+S). The current 6+ will probably be discontinued. Also, for the same reason, we may also see 6 rebadged to 6C at $99 tier. So:
5S = $0
6C or 6 = $99
6S = $199
6+S (or New 6+) = $299.

I really wish the 4.7" iPhone 6 had a 1080p display, would make it the perfect iphone.

The 6+ is just too big to really be practical.

25% may be still increase, but it's still no match.

As iPhone's get thinner, (and why wouldn't they)..... we'll see more YouTube videos and soon of it bending...

This is here to stay.. and we'll see "bend-gate" every launch...

Believe me. Huge difference in battery. The 6 is barely better than an earlier model. The 6 Plus is better than any bigger battery phone I've seen even. As far as camera.. depends on how much you shake for pictures, and in low light. Usually you won't notice, but in certain conditions you will. Video is a huge difference. Either way, the 6 Plus is obviously the better phone. There's no way to argue it. It has everything the 6 has, plus more.

For me, those are good points to hang out for 'trickle down'. I want to see 1080p on the smaller model, and the tricked out camera as well. I made a decision to keep my 4, get an iPad mini 3, and wait for another cycle or two

I walked in two and a half weeks ago and they happened to have the exact 6 Plus I wanted. I can't imagine going back to anything smaller. So what if it's like a phablet, it's not like that's a bad quality to have. Heck, it makes me want to use my iPhone more than ever before!

This statistic is pretty obvious even though more users are recommending 6 plus in the iPhone forums. Probably to make them feel better of their purchase.

The main reason for not getting thinner is the camera. Physics limits how small the camera module can be with a given sensor size. If they wanted a bigger sensor they'd have to increase the phone thickness.

They only way they could make it thinner is if part of it is not uniformly thin say the top were the camera is thicker (6mm) than the bottom (say 3-4 mm). Another option would be a retractable camera module; but seeing as how small this thing is and that Apple would be loathe of putting something mechanical in there, I don't think that would ever happen. So, we are nearing practically how thin the phone can be. They can probably still shave about 30% of volume and 2-3mm in thickness over part of the surface, but that's it. The phone would then be around 100g

Surely that statement is wrong. I know a lot of iPhone owners, and none of them have upgraded to the iPhone 6 or 6+ yet. I know my data set is low, but I just think if Apple got over 90% of the iPhone install base in the US to upgrade to the 6 or 6+ there would be more headlines.

This means 91% of those that bought Iphones, bought the 6 and 6+, doesn't tell you how many of the actual users upgraded.

Still think the wait times for the iPhone 6+ vs the iPhone 6 plays a huge part in differences in the numbers. Why wait 3 - 4 weeks for the plus when you can have the iPhone 6 immediately?

Overtime they should even up once the supply of iPhone 6+ increases.

Because if someone wanted a phablet, and more importantly an Apple made phablet, they're not going to opt for the smaller iPhone 6. Apple knows devices like the Note series from Samsung are popular and that was their target audience with the 6+. Heck I returned from the Galaxy Note 3 to a 6+. As much as I love Android(and still do), you just can't beat the continuity between Apple devices.

Unfortunately even the 6 is a two handed phone. The annoying double touch home button to half the display is a workaround. After a few months with the phone I am all but certain that I prefer the size of the 5. I do like the rounded edges although it is harder to hold onto, but this is probably because of the additional size. I have owned iterations of the phone and to this day I still prefer the feel of the edge version. If Apple continue to improve the innards of the smaller form factor I'm pretty sure I'm headed back that way.
Since Apple can't really go back to smaller screens for the iPhone, we can only hope that they come up with narrower bezels to make fit the 4.7 inch screen on smaller form factor phones.

If I didn't already have a ipad then the plus would have been more tempting.

I wonder if ipad sales were lost because someone grabbed a plus and realized they didn't also need an iPad.

1/3 is allot more than expected but don't worry, sizes that don't fit function will die, this whole size war is a prime example of pluralistic ignorance.

Exactly! The Plus is CONSTANTLY out of stock, so of course it's numbers are lower than the 6. Heck I almost just got a 6 as the wait for the Plus was 2 months! (Thankfully it was delivered 4 weeks after ordering, and not the 8 weeks predicted)

Oh, and I LOVE the plus. It's barely bigger for me than the 6, and given my large hands it's absolutely so comfortable to use! I would never get a screen smaller than a 5.5" from now on...
I know!! You know exactly what you want, and all those other people are just sheep that have to be told what phone to use!
