I will not be ordering one as I don't want to give in to Apple's selective roll out of absolutely essential features. I will order one when it has a camera, OS 4.0 and all the goodies that come along with it.

MacDawg will be around shortly to record your decision. Thanks for letting us know! ;)

I plan to buy both the iPad released on 4/3 and the next one, to be released on X/X/2011. I don't care to wait for new technology - otherwise I'd never buy anything at all.

I was going to get the cheapest WiFi iPad and hold on to it for 30 days until the 3G version became available.

I'm just going to order the 64GB 3G tommorow instead. I'm starting to get the feeling that it's going to be a 1 to 2 week addtional wait only. Being that in the US the AT&T deal is already ironed out ... the only hold up for the device shipping is going to be production. I don't see the FCC approval as a hold up anymore as I dont think Apple can sell the device tommorow without having that approval.

Also If the WiFi only version has major issues within the 1st two weeks of consumer use I have time to cancel my order ;)

Another word on that... with the 3GS, the online reservation meant that people holding reservations were allowed to go to the front of the line. So, if you make an online reservation, you still need to get to the store before they sell out (if they do...).

Which is why my memory is also that people who reserved (vs. pre-ordered) didn't have their credit cards charged at all until they took delivery at the Apple Retail Store. If anyone has a different/better memory than me, please share.

You are wright when the 3GS came out I came to the store and evry one with pre order was getting in 1st only when no more preorder left they started to let us come in but they had enugh for all of us any way.
but this time I think they will run out.

So when will the deliveries be available? Will they deliver on 4/3 or what. I have to know cause I will be out of town that weekend at my parents. I could ship it there, but only would want to do that if I know it will be there that day. I won't still be there come Monday
:-(

What do you all think?

Have it sent to my house. I'll take care of it for you. Trust me. :D

It's important to keep in mind that UPS and FedEx don't usually deliver on Saturday unless Saturday delivery is explicitly paid for.

Which means if you're getting an iPad delivered to your house, you aren't getting it until Monday, April 5th.

thats actually incorrect, apple uses FedEx, and they DO deliver on saturdays, so some people will get them on launch day FYI

Am I only the one who thinks it is sad people are rushing to wake up at a so earily just to get the preorder right when it starts.

A smart person understands that they could just get to it during the day after Apple servers are back up to speed and it will have ZERO effect when they get the iPad.

Actually, Fed Ex Home Delivery (for Residential addresses) delivers on Tuesdays - Saturdays, whereas Fed Ex Ground (for commerical Business addresses) delivers on Monday - Friday.

So, if you are having it sent to your home address, it would arrive on Saturday or the following tuesday. But if you are sending it to your office or commercial address, it would arrive on Monday.

Tricky thing that Fed Ex Service.

It's got nothing to do with being "smart", etc. - as was posted earlier, it's like standing in line for a blockbuster movie. It doesn't make the movie start any earlier - it's just FUN to do. It doesn't need to have a rational or logical reason.

'International orders for both Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi + 3G iPad lines in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland and the UK will begin shipping in late April as well, although Apple has yet to announce a date that it will begin accepting pre-orders in those countries...'

...nor even a price for that mattter!!!:(

Hahaha, oh we know it's going to be atrocious! They usually just exchange the $ with £, euro or in Scandinavia multiply the prices with 10 and put krone after it. They've gotten better with matching the prices to the currency value, but they're still far off from real world conversion rates.

Why 5:30am PST? That seem kinda strange to me. Why not just start selling them at 12:00.01am PST?

Because the "normal" US timezones sys admins will be on duty at that point. When folks try to 'slashdot' Apple's ( and satellite content support servers ) there will be the normal folks on duty to catch any hiccups that leak through.
Apple's servers/networks are certain to get hammered for a while. Might as well have your normal folks, who got a good nights sleep, manning the ramparts.

Not that the servers won't be prepped for an onslaught but sometimes "stuff happens" and may need to fix something.

The secondary effect is hopefully get bit of a wave as folks wake up.

[ This is another one of the overlooked problems when they implied would launch worldwide on a single day. You'd get a bigger wave, longer aftershocks , and a substantially more complicated logistics. Doable, but why inflict that much pain on yourself on the first time out of the gate. ]

toatally right and thats correct, will you be ordering an ipad too? if so which model, im gettig 64 gb wifi+ 3G :apple::apple::apple::apple::)

Say you dont order at 830AM.....wait til you leave work and try pre-ordering at 5:30pm.....there is a chance that it may be out of stock by that point.

Out of stock? In some sense, they are out of stock for another week or two regardless. There aren't going to be any in the stores till shortly before launch.

The only reason to do it on the first day is to possibly lock down getting one of the initial shipments so that you can:

get the box on the launch day.
snap pics of unboxing
post on mac rurmors ( or wave it under nose of folks hang out with)
brag for a day or so about having something that most over folks don't have.
(for those who pick up ... get one of the "first day happy meal prizes" perhaps )

That's it. If you don't want to brag, gloat , stamp your circus membership card, or get a "happy meal prize" it makes no difference.

It isn't very likely that after the first day of shipments all of the iPad factories would explode and no iPads would ever be made again. So any reasonable timeframe of "out of stock" isn't going to matter. So you may get it on day 2, 3, 4 . In the grand scope of your iPad lifetime ownership, it really isn't going to make a difference.

To put it in perspective Apple sold a couple 100,000 in first couple of days of initial iPhone. They reportedly have at least a couple 100,000 iPads built by the end of this month (not the launch month). At same level of launch as iPhone you'd get one.
