I was planning on waiting a couple weeks anyway until demand died down... so this is fine by me. Great news for Apple though! I'll get by with OS4 on my 3GS until they can get supplies back up.

Also living in a rather rural area, I might be able to snag one just walking into a Radioshack/BB too

Yeah 600.000, thats like 0.01% of the phone subscriptions in use.

You can't be serious? Do the math - if 600,000 is .01% of the phone subscriptions in use in the US then that would mean there are 6 billion subscriptions in use!!! That's roughly 20 phone subscriptions for EVERY person in America?

Oh well I guess I'll wait till next yr and get a iPhone 4 for $99 when the new ones come out unless the preorders keep backing up !!!

Heres hoping Monday I can get the iOS4 downloaded onto my 3GS

Stop mixing up PREORDERS and RESERVATIONS.

These are two completely different things entirely.

Can anyone post the screenshot of "Pre Order" email?

I am just wondering there could be 2 emails by Store Pickup or Delivery, and in case of delivery you will have to provide the credit card number and get "Pre Order" email?

+1

600,000 is just shy of 7% of the how many phone they expect to sell in an entire quarter. or roughly 1-2% of how many they'll sell in an entire year.

They are separate emails. The "pre-order" look identical to any invoice you get when purchasing from the apple store.

My fiance and I reserved for the 3Gs launch. We got there around 6:20 after grabbing coffee. There were two lines, one for walk ups, one for reservations. They had a list of our names and crossed off our names as we got in line. There were about 30 in the walkup line and we were 3rd in the preorder line. When the store opened it was: 10 reservations to 1 walk in. It was very smooth.

Stop this. If you keep posting rational and realistic things the trolls will run out of material to incite people with. :D

What I know is I pre-ordered a phone yesterday on the launch day. Then I went back to the apple.com website today and pre-ordered another i-phone 4 today and it said I was "upgrade" eligible on the same plan. So I will get two subsidized i-phone 4 phones one (1 account).

You're an idiot, and it's unlikely you're going to get your 3 phones.

You've just added to the huge mess that ATT will have to sort-out between now and next week.

I'm sure you aren't alone, as there are plenty of idiots in this world. So, I don't expect things to go smoothly next week.

Doesn't hurt to try. : )

They won't just cancel orders. If this is truly a glitch, who knows how many fathers and mothers ordered multiple phones for a family plan, and didn't realize they were all under one phone number. AT&T will not want to deal with that public relations nightmare. If they made the mistake, they have insurance to cover their losses.

Above this is my name, address and order number.

Why might orders be so brisk?
  1. iPhone 4 perceived as faster 4G connection.
  2. People actually expect video conferencing to work before 2011.
  3. Fell in love with new design.

4. People were allowed to buy up to 5 phones leaving others the ability to buy none.
5. Apple is rationing out distribution to generate hype.

alright, i didn't pre order it yesterday.

i tried to pre order it now, but it said no more reservations in stores at the very end..lammee..they shouldn't let you pre order if you can't even get it.

but, since theres so many pre orders, will they just have some for people who walk in?

I would bet they will have at least as many available in stores for walkin's as they do for Pre-order.

A press release saying you sold out of your Pre-orders gets you only so much Publicity......
Lines wrapping around the block waiting to get into the store and buy your product drums up 1000x as much Publicity.

You sure about that? Here's what they've been sending out:

Dear xxxxxxxxxx

Thank you for choosing AT&T.

Unfortunately, we were either unable to verify the information you provided or you have exceeded the number of lines of service that we allow customers to purchase online. As a result, your order has been canceled.

All you accomplished is creating even more work for ATT's already-overworked staff.

I actually admire those cunning opportunity seekers, jtara and brownieguy19, for having the balls to try to make a buck off of AT&T. AT&T is the enemy remember?

Most likely they'll get a nice email saying their extraneous orders have been canceled.

New Hampshire.

It's funny, whenever I travel out of state and buy something, I stop and say "WTF? Oh... yeah"

That's quite the savings. In CA, MA, and RI, you have to pay tax on the original price, NOT the discounted price. So you pay tax on the $599 and $699 prices.
And our state is STILL broke.
