I actually admire those cunning opportunity seekers, jtara and brownieguy19, for having the balls to try to make a buck off of AT&T. AT&T is the enemy remember?

Most likely they'll get a nice email saying their extraneous orders have been canceled.

+1. Apple will not care. AT&T will never figure it out.

And if they do send an email, you say, "I wanted to add two additional lines to my account." Phones still get to your house in time. 14 days to return them, and you are still a happy iPhone 4 owner. Like I said. Worth a shot.

AT&T Pre-Order status.

I was able to put in a pre-order on AT&T's site yesterday (1 PM PST) and I have a confirmation saying delivery on or by the 24th.

Today I check their Order Status page and now it says that the order date is 06/16/2010. Am I the only one with this problem?

Above this is my name, address and order number.

Thanks a lot! I guess mine is just a reservation. oh well, I am already ready to embrace the queing experience on 24th then.

My order is the same... although I never got an order confirmation because the website broke after submitting my CC info (this happened to me twice, and I got one order cancelled notice.) I placed the order at around 7am EST on the 15th. I didn't see anything on-line in order status until this morning, and it listed everything as back ordered. Looking at it now, nothing is listed as backordered, so I assume that means they put me in the queue for the phones on the 24th. Hopefully that's not wishful thinking.

I think the reason it says 06/16 is because one of the AT&T elves had to enter the orders either by hand or from a log file.

Its funny to imagine some one from AT&T manually entering orders into their fulfillment systems from their ordering systems. Ah the benefits of making procurement and POS systems computersied a la AT&T style.

So, I didn't read the whole 10+ pages, but to the fellow who said "at&t hasn't reset my eligibility" and has been ordering multiples to sell if each one of those isn't activated to your account within 30 days your credit card is charged for the full un-activated price.

I'm not too sure about that. Once you buy the phone you own it and cannot be charged a different price.

Those of you who are buying multiple phones only to sell them and profit, jump off a bridge. Thanks.

You only make it harder for the others that actually want one.

Could not have said it better myself.
That is absolutely ridiculous..

This is correct. Hence why people can use their eligibility, give the phone to a significant other or family member.

They can't blindly charge a card. Hence why most phone companies give rebates, after a phone has been activated for 30 days.

On the 24th, would it still be possible to purchase an iPhone at an Apple store if you didn't reserve it and you stood in line early in the morning?

Plan on getting their really early if you want to do that. I wouldn't be surprised if they had lines of people who reserved it lol.

Give away a reservation

I have a pre-order and a reservation for the 24th. Can I give away the reservation to some one else?

Ok. So if I order an extra phone and it comes in the box pre-ordered shipped to my house, I could take that out and set it up on another mobile service provider since technically it's still unlocked? Seems too good to be true.(And yes I get that one of the phones will be on ATT. I'm asking about the extra phone).

?

I guess I don't really understand why people wanted to reserve, rather than pre-order.

It was fairly apparent to me that a reservation gave me a spot in line, where the preorder actually placed an order/charged me, and guaranteed (as much as could be) an iPhone 4 on launch day.

Was there any benefit to reservations over preordering?

Chris

Yes, you can do that. The catch is you had to sign a two year contract to get the phone.

It's not unlocked technically, but you are free to do whatever you'd like with it. You signed a two year agreement. You can activate it wherever you'd like, but you are still stuck paying the ATT monthly fee. (one would ask why buy the phone, sign the two year deal, and sell the phone you have to use)

Again, hence why people are able to sell their iPhone before the two year contract is over. You promise to have a contract for however much money per month to ATT. You can even go and purchase a prepaid phone, swap sim cards, and have it sit on a lower price plan without the data and sell the iPhone.

If you don't want an iPhone, you can buy one, sell it, and go back to using your original phone. I promise. It can be done. Ask anybody who has purchased an iPhone with a friend, parent, siblings' upgrade, and given it to another ATT customer. I promise you can buy an iPhone and do WHATEVER the hell you want with it, but remember, you promised to keep the line active for 2 years with ATT.

Well Apple's site reverted to a Reservation once AT&T's server failed to handle the eligibility requests required for a pre-order.

In my case I received a reservation at 1:15AM in the morning of the release but was able to preorder a few hours later.

Does anyone know if I am receiving one for my wife on the 24th and mine won't be here until July 6-8 if I could just have her iPhone instead? She isn't in a hurry. Or will her number be tied to that iPhone?

Yes, if you camp out and are first in line, you will get your phone at opening time.
Preordering, you won't get it till fedex arrives.

Incorrect. The phone will be LOCKED to AT&T. You will not be able to put in a T-mobile sim card and use it.

You can use it. You may have to call ATT to get the number switched or maybe when you activate thru iTunes that will let you choose which line its for. Either case it shouldn't be a problem.

Ok. So for what you did...you would have three phones but only ONE contract with AT&T for one line(because of the glitch). Or did I misread what you said?

I have three and I'm planning on selling 2 of them.

AT&T isn't resetting the eligibility. I have been able to purchase 3, two 16 GB at $199 and one 32 GB at $299. I have a single line account.

One of each will be for sale at their $599 and $699 price points respectively.

THANKS AT&T!
(if you're interested, try it on apple.com)

It is people like you who cause the problems in the first place, scum!

It will be interesting to see if Apple has any white iPhones available on launch day - or produces enough (any??) to take pre-orders for July. Should make some folks happy if it happens.
