That people who have reserved an iphone should line up at 4am because of fine print at the bottom of the e-mail stating that availability is not guaranteed and is on a first-come, first served basis. My point is that this language is *also* at the bottom of the confirmation e-mail for preorders.

Nowhere on my confirmation email does it say this.

So now I have a dilemma......
I'm pretty sure I got through on AT&T's site yesterday, because the iPhone shows up on the Oder Status page, but I have not received a confirmation email.
I do have a reservation at the Apple Store on the 24th to pick one up.

Do I wait to see if the iPhone shows up from AT&T, or go to Apple Store and wait in line?

Will they even give me one at the Apple Store, even if I ordered one through AT&T??

What would YOU do?

call att in two days and use your order status info to check if you are being/have been processed/shipped.

I was wondering this myself. I don't think you can leave the store without an activated phone.

I have a feeling a lot of you E-Bay bounty hunters are going to be disappointed come June 24.

You're wrong. You don't have to activate it at the store if you pre-ordered it and it is delivered to your doorstep.

Gotta pre-order....why anybody "reserves" one is beyond me.

What truly blows my mind is that they've sold this many without people even seeing one in "the flesh". This thing had better completely blow people away when it gets in their hands, given their expectations, or Apple will have a hard time selling the next version. There is a downside to having too much hype.

It will blow people away... it's basically an iPad mini that can make phone calls too. And since the iPad did a pretty good job of blowing people away when it came out... the iPhone4 should do the same.

Fine print

Nowhere on my confirmation email does it say this.

After the E-bay fees and maybe PayPal fees, it won't be as much as you think even IF you find someone who would pay 1K. Then, you are also running the risk of the buyer coming back later and saying he didn't receive the phone and chargeback on your account (seller protection isn't THAT foolproof btw).

Too much risk for the return. Good luck and I hope you get all the money you deserve for robbing someone else of an iPhone on June 24.

Phones aren't shipped 'activated.' You have to plug it into iTunes first. AT&T will have no idea where those magical iphones they shipped to me end up.

Because my local FedEx/UPS guy comes at his or her discretion and may or may not decide to make the effort to bring my package to my door. You cannot imagine how many times i've sat in my house waiting on a package and then I get a status update saying "RESCHEDULED:NOBODY HOME". I've called dispatch a few times and had the driver turn around and try again but sometimes they don't.

so i'd rather just camp out at the applestore and buy my couple of accessories then hightail it out there.

It doesn't really say anything. Which is why I just had one shipped to my house

That, my friend, is because you reserved, not pre-ordered. My bank account has already been charged.

I confess that I actually spent the whole day (some would argue "compulsively") trying to pre-order ... as I was going about my work.

By about 4:30 PST, I successfully made it through and pre-ordered a 32 GB iPhone 4 which will arrive June 24th. Given I was literally retrying every few minutes (sometimes waiting, say, 10 minutes or longer as I was doing stuff for work) from about 9:30 AM through 4 PM ... and just *barely* made it before Apple sold out ... just proves how difficult it was to make it through. I was tempted several times to just give up. But I am glad I didn't.
This the same tactic. It was around 3:00 ish EST I was able to get in back to back. For 2. But I sat at work the entire day refreshing. I even had my coworker refreshing for me while I was in a meeting. I worked for those phones:eek::D

It's not all bad standing in line chatting with people.

I went to the ATT store yesterday when the computers were dead and got nowhere, but I went back today around 10am and got my "pre-order" in. Which I guess is really more of a reservation. I got an email from ATT saying this:

Today was the busiest sales day in our history. Because of the incredible volume of orders we received, there is a slight chance that some customers may receive their devices between June 25 and June 28. Rest assured, we are doing all we can to ship devices to customers for delivery on the 24th.

I don't have my hopes set very high, and I thought it was strange as the guy told me mine would ship by July 5th, but this makes me think I'll get it during the first week at hopefully. Better than July 2 or 14, that's for sure.

I would check the order status in the AT&T site Wed evening to see if the order status had changed to "shipped."

I'll give you that....but time is money my friend. If it were a Saturday, I'd think differently.

I have three and I'm planning on selling 2 of them.

AT&T isn't resetting the eligibility. I have been able to purchase 3, two 16 GB at $199 and one 32 GB at $299. I have a single line account.

One of each will be for sale at their $599 and $699 price points respectively.

THANKS AT&T!
(if you're interested, try it on apple.com)
Please get back on and let us know when all your orders are canceled.

Wow, Apple isn't having any problems moving these things. I wonder if we are gonna get a pre Christmas memory bump? Maybe I'll wait.

Congrats to all who got the early pre-orders. :D

FedEx offers exceptions if you're not home. Contact fedex or go to their website. Find where they can drop it off without needing a signature. A bit risky, but much more easier.
