Here's betting that U2 have done more for the world than ALL OF YOU PUT TOGETHER, financially and with their own time. Now, I bet that's why you "hate" U2, because you're just bitter and cynical, and complaining and "hating" is way easier than having a balanced, objective approach with informed opinions which are not based on personal biases.

It may be "cool" to hate those who everyone else says they "hate", but listen up folks - it's time to get a life and think for yourselves.

Instead of sitting around fawning over unreleased products, they ARE out there doing good - when did you do the same?

Probably not once.

Yeah, you're right -- being unhappy that a hopefully exciting product announcement has to share the stage with an irrevelant band really means we're all AIDS-loving haters.

Hi-Res is not a format, is just a term that refers to High Resolution Audio. Apple already has a format for this, which is Apple Lossless. However, currently Apple does not sell Hi-Res audio on iTunes.

I never aid it was a format, but Sony has launched several 'Hi-Res' audio products now, and I would imagine it's different from Apple's lossless encoding.

its the 10th anniversary of their last appearance with Jobs and they will announce a new product red iPod touch with free album download

OH GOD! U2 sucks could Apple ever have better taste in music and I am not talking about Beats crap.

Apple is being very thoughtful. Now I have a good reason not to watch it :D.

I really doubt it will be the Touch 6. Instead, they will probably sell the new iPhone in red.

Oh no. A free album. What will we ever do?! Aside from swiping to the left and hitting delete.

Anyway, I like U2 so I welcome this.

Beats the hell out of John Mayer or Coldplay.

I can't see how this is anything BUT a grand move by Apple - probably the biggest tech company in the world joining hands with one of the biggest ever music groups in the world, to promote what is building-up to be Apple's biggest special event in many years.

And if true, then it's FREE. What's the problem? Simply don't listen to any of the songs. I'm sure there'll be the option to delete the songs. But if not then no big deal.

I for one am pretty happy with the possibility of not only having U2's newest album preloaded on the new iPhone, but of them also performing live. Great stuff!!

Granted Bono can be a prick but as a band are they really that bad a choice?
Just be thankful it's not some nonsense like Green Day, Metallica, or even worse the likes of Beyonce or some rap garbage.
They're probably just playing out the show anyway like Costello and the Foo Fighters.
Bob Dylan would be a good tribute to Steve but I've always considered him dreadful personally.

This makes me worried...why do you NEED a cover... err band to announce something if the announcement is KICK ASS AS IT IS?

maybe its NOT as innovative as we thought..

maybe U2 PAID to be involved...

Let me try to put your mind at rest.

The "video" U2 was supposed to tape a couple weeks ago was directed by the long time director of all of Product ( Red ) commercials.

The industrial designer who joined Jonny Ive at Apple last week also designed product ( red ) things.

Add 2+2 and you come up with Product ( Red ) Apple products. Including new wearables.

The new U2 album will be pre-installed on any Product ( Red ) Apple product.

Nice one, Macrumors - you made my whole DAY posting this - the reactions are hilarious through their sheer ridicluous ignorance and faux "rage" :D

Bring on U2 - make the keynote FOUR HOURS, and U2 playing TWO of those hours... that'd be brill :D

Cheer up you plebs, it's nearly 2015 iPhone season :p

You may now resume alternately drooling and foaming with rage :D

Can't believe my fellow countrymen would sell out like this.... Feck Em anyway!!!

What's with all the U2 hate? Someone said "haven't been relevant for a decade"? ... Seriously? They've been relevant since 1980, bro! Or maybe Bono is so irrelevant that his consistent influence on world leaders is based solely on how irrelevant he is? C'mon people. U2, baby!

Never heard of U2 until I seen this mac rumors headline... Yeah im good with them not being in the keynote.

Never heard of U2? Sorry but that is not possible. What part of the world do you live in?

Insert clever answer here......

Once again, the MacRumors groupthink is strong with this one. I cannot fathom how anyone at our beloved Cupertino company could align themselves with an overrated rock band. They're not relevant anymore, as other have said. I bet their last tour tanked. Just go away, losers. Sigh. What is the matter with Apple lately? First the protruding camera lens, then the ugly antenna bands, and now this.

But back on topic, what could Apple possibly gain from partnering with what lots of people mistakenly refer to as one of the most important rock bands in history? Apple would be better off pairing with some obscure indy band. A ragtag group of post-modernist musicians misfits who are more edgy than the "Edge." Sigh. Time for me to buy a Xioami or Samsung.
