Which Model are you getting?

This might push me over the edge and make me go pick up a base pro 10core!

Interesting the top level status shows clearing customs.

just go do it 😂

Love my new MacBook but can help but a little bit wasn’t the Max model. No reason at all, other than ideally would have liked 32gb ram for “future proofing”

Weirdly I notice it’s sitting around 6gb free ram of the 16. Do you think this is because it’s indexing and a new set up ?

My MacBook has a little bit of use now, still getting used to the feel of it when handling and using it - to the point where I pick up my old one and I get a sense of nostalgia! I got silver and it looks great, I can’t understand the hype over space grey to be honest - macs should be silver!

Went out photographing before picking mine up yesterday so did a little import test. The 500 or so RAW files imported faster and were available to scrub through and edit with no lag immediately whereas my old MacBook Pro took about 15 minutes to get everything rendered and ready to go.

About the notch, ultimately I will get used to it, don’t really notice it but occasionally it will catch my eye and I’m like ’wtf is that on my screen’ plus it splits the menu on Pixelmator Pro so the last menu item ‘Help’ is on its own on the right side of the notch, help indeed…

The really noticeable thing on the 14 over the 13 is the extra vertical space which is very welcome. I may explore some of the scaling options today have had to zoom out of some websites (facebook) as they appeared a bit large and chunky.

Love that I now have enough ports to plug my drives in independently and ditch the hub whilst still being able to charge!

For those of you that ordered a 14 inch max with 64GB of RAM from Apple

1. Have you received your machine or notification?
2. When did you place your order?

I ordered about 7:45 pm UK on the evening of the launch and it is just sitting at processing despite the best timing estimate being 26th October. I am working at home for the delivery for a few days, and am wondering whether I should change my work pattern.

wow the M1 Max makes the 2012 bezel look ginormous!

did love my 2012 MBP, was my first MacBook after moving from a generation of windows machines... never looked back :D

Yes the 2012 model was and still is a great laptop and was the turning point for me from Dell laptops!! 😃

Edge to edge screen on new MacBook Pro is definitely a massive plus and honestly the notch is no issue!

Yeah, had nothing on the store page but telephone customer service sorted it right away. I wouldn't have bothered with multiple calls to the idiots at HSBC if I'd known it was going to be that easy (also Apple's credit card payment page says 'The payment method for an order cannot be amended once the order has been submitted to Apple.')!

Hopefully that's not slowed my delivery much.
Argh. In the early hours of the morning, whilst I was asleep, I had an SMS from MBNA saying “you will text a text from MBNA about your card activity”. Then another text from a normal number saying “Did you use your card at *30s before message* at Apple/UK for £2099? Reply yes or no”. £2099 was the cost of the MBP, whereas my original order was MBP + AppleCare.

What is particularly annoying is that they declined the original transaction and I had to redo it.

Now I have to get Apple to try the transaction again. But no longer have the option on the order page.

For those with estimated delivery of Friday on BTO, have you been charged already?
I had the £349 for AppleCare charged today on my Amex, but not the laptop itself yet?
See above. They tried to charge for laptop overnight. Applecare is still showing as pending.

To everyone that has received their new pros. Anyone having this issue which I have just noticed :

Hoping there is a fix or setting?

Can someone reassure me here

I thought I’d open a few safari tabs and load a photo into Affinity Photo, also have the photos app open and App Store

Should it be using this much RAM? Does this bode well for the future?

I’m not massively clued up on it but I want to make sure I’ve got a machine to last me several years

Still no updates on my DHL tracking. This is getting stressful now.
I mentioned it a few page back but this is normal.after pickup the next scan will be once it’s in the UK. Same thing happened when I ordered by series 7. Picked up in china via DHL, next scan was 3 days later when it arrived in the uk, and then on the 4th day it was delivered. I expect a scan tomorrow Once in the uk.

DPD messed up delivery of my 14" yesterday - was due to be dropped at a pickup shop, out for delivery all day, then they stated they couldn't find the address (for one of their own pickup shops!) and returned it to the depot. It's out again today, hoping for better luck this evening (but have a standby waiting at an apple store in case it happens again, in which case I'll just return the other one unopened).

It's an education order - wondering if I'm missing something in the T&C? Not been this excited about a new machine for a long time.

I'm in the "there was a mechanical failure" batch of UPS deliveries. Got a feeling this isn't arriving this week. Don't quite understand how there was no tracking update for 2 days and then there is an issue.

It's memory pressure that really matters with MacOS, rather than the sum of what Apps are showing as using, so that looks like you have a good amount of headroom. MacOS is very good at memory management, although ultimately 16GB is 16GB and not 32GB, so it can of course hit a wall earlier in certain tasks.

I think you are probably right, although it's possible - I did once order something which shipped from Shenzen and it arrived nearly as quickly as you physically could have moved the package - something like 24 hours door to door, which was amazing. So you can luck out.

At least we know these things are in the vicinity of an airport which will fly planes to the UK, albeit they may be currently sat on a presumably broken plane.

Thank you

So I should be fine with 16gb ?

My last Mac has 32 but not for any reason, just it was a good price 😂

Been using it for a while now, not noticed anything slowing down etc but I see the MEM bar looking almost full and panicked 🤣

I’m not a power user at all, with light usage generally and some photo editing. Although I am planning on doing a course to learn how to edit better at some point.

Will see how it goes today and then decide!

The biggest headache is that I used £700 of apple store vouchers towards the BTO and if I got pick up in store I’ll not be able to use them again right now. Also, if I then return my BTO I’ll end up back with the vouchers

DHL tracking of BTO’s is an absolute killer.

Mine was “Picked Up” in Shanghai at about 11am UK time on Monday morning.

Now I KNOW from what people have said on here that it’s unlikely to change for several days from that point… but does that stop me compulsively checking every hour or so?

NO. No it doesn’t.

Call the customer service number, they were great with me.

I had to call MBNA after Apple when I bought my 11, then had to call Apple back. I mean, they must have millions of these transactions, why is it such a surprise to them?!

Same Mechanical Failure message on UPS tracking as above… fingers crossed for Friday!!

Still showing the date of Friday so fingers crossed indeed!

Maybe the mechanical failure is what caused it to be sat there for a few days in Shanghai. The failure message appeared twice for me with the latest one ending with “your parcel is on its way”.

Still plenty of time for it to arrive

I suspect it was this flight that's been cancelled: https://www.flightradar24.com/data/flights/5x11

Given how "Just In Time" global freight is and how backlogged things have been I am expecting this to slip to next week but happy to be proved wrong!
