Which Model are you getting?

I ordered one on Thursday when showing as ‘in Stock’ with the dastardly intention of returning my Apple store bought one, but they are now confirming their is no ETA from their supplier so the current time is 36 days.
That just about sums them up - they claim to have them in hand then, when you place an order, there's a 5 week wait. Unacceptable.

yep as expected, real world tests show the binned m1 pro was hardly any different to the the 10/16!

time to get a BTO order in for the binned
Oh bloody hell, so there is basically no difference between 16gb and 32gb RAM or between the base config and the 10/16!

I’ve just returned by BTO 10/16/32/512 and ordered the 10/16/16/1tb from Costco, with 10 day delivery.

I should have just stuck with my very original base 14” order that I did 2 minutes after the event ended!!!

I blame apple for not giving us any time to think about what the hell we’re doing!

I’m seriously contemplating a binned 8/14 but upping the ram 32gb and SSD to 1TB.

It’s about £100 (+£20 for the 96w brick) more than the 10/16/16/1tb.

Pay £100 more and get 32gb ram and relatively comparable ‘real world’ performance.

If only they didn’t arrive 7-14 dec!!

No questions, no working with customer service, etc? Just a straight swap?
Nobody is claiming that every aspect of consumer protection laws mean that companies just accept everyones case no questions asked for years and years after a product is sold. Pointing out your rights and why you think you have a strong case and being prepared to engage in these discussions with the company is part of getting the desired result from companies when something goes wrong after a prolonged period. There are lots of factors that will lead to either success or failure and generalisations only cover a little of this territory, better to think about the details of the merits of each particular case. Apple sell a lot of products and will have good data about common faults that emerge with specific models over time and the technical reasons for them, which helps them to be reasonable in certain circumstances. Although of course they are also aware of the faulty expectations some customers have that are not actually covered by consumer protection laws at all, so they arent going to offer really huge periods of 'no questions asked' return/replacement policies either. And they know what sort of insurance/extra service they can sell to people, and the partial overlap between some of the things they promote as part of that service and some things that people in some countries actually have the right to for no extra change, but they arent going to advertise and educate people as to all those aspects in explicit detail!

I’m thinking two calls to costco tomorrow, one to the warehouse to check they’ve got a base 14”, and then to the online people to cancel yesterday’s order.

I’ll have gone from a £2500 BTO order through apple to a £1749 from Costco, and both the ram and core comparisons show I’m barely going to lose any performance, if at all!

I can live with the base 512gb ssd.

Anyone seen any movement on BTO 16" MAX models? Mines supposed to be delivered next week but it's been rather quiet on the western front where other models seems to be moving up.

Those videos posted over the last couple of days comparing the different models are very enlightening. I suppose it's the law of diminishing marginal returns. The base model definitely seems the best value for money (as long as 512GB is enough for you).

And that’s the problem, the base specs are perfectly fine for me other than the 512GB. I keep my Macs for around 5 years and 512GB becomes an issue down the line. So I have to go the BTO route or a heavily discounted 10/10/16/1TB.

So on my commute to work and being stuck on a train… I’ve decided to go down the base + more ram and ssd. I don’t mind the slight performance hit (I’m not doing continual heavy graphics etc) and would feel the additional ram will help keep this machine longer.

I’m just got a 6 week wait now

Exactly what I'm hoping turns up from UPS tomorrow...

Will this be your 3rd machine 😅

Very pleased with the 14" 1TB 16GB silver MacBook Pro I got in place of the Max model I had initially.
The silver is fantastic- I like it quite a bit more than the space grey.

Also quite happy to have gone from Max to Pro, battery life seems much better. Performance is excellent too.

I think this is a good decision as the performance hit is so marginal according to those recent videos.

Are you going to hang on to your 10/16/16/1TB for as long as you can? I believe that you can initiate a return within 2 weeks (so day 13 would be good) and then have an additional 14 days to get it back to Apple.

For those who received their machines from the beginning of this month there is the extended holiday period. Anyone have experience of using this?

Very interesting to see the continuous chopping and changing of preferred spec, even colour!
Interesting that in previous years it's been a linear price v performance line but this year it's all over the place with various configs performing similarly and the 14 and 16 packing largely the same performance.
Glad I hit the sweet spot first time with the 10/16 16GB 1TB option as it seems that's generally a good choice (especially when considering BTO lead times).

In other news I've pulled the trigger on some AirPod gen 3s (AirPod Pros don't fit my ears :( ) so that should round out my 2021 Apple investments.

AMEX has just been charged for a 19th - 26th delivery. Apple store says still processing. Anyone else had this?
I've had a PayPal authorisation come through today (I think, unless the temporary authorisations always show as 'today', but I don't think it was like this previously) for my BTO 14" 8/14 1TB 16GB Silver, which is still showing as 'Processing' and estimated 19th-26th on the Apple site.

It’s wiped and ready to go back to store today. I don’t want to spend two weeks with it to then lose it again :)

I bought it in store so don’t have the luxury or initiating a return. I’m hoping they can refund to gift card so I can then use it straight away to place the new order.. this wait till mid dec :(
