Which Model are you getting?

I will have to post the same thing in various threads due to high level of information fragmentation on the forum about the 2021 MacBook Pros.

I have just ordered a 16” MBP in Silver.

M1 Max, 32 GPU cores, 32 GB RAM, 1 TB.

CONCERNS
Seeing reports on this forum about:

1. MagSafe cable faulty out of box, requires replacement
2. Some irregularities around the hinge
3. Someone said fans weren’t kicking in as expected even under heavy loads
4. Couple people at least, have reported nicks and scratches out of box
5. Someone reported a bump around the MagSafe port reaching into the speaker grille

Maybe some more.

Question: Like cars, are we to do a pre-delivery inspection now? What points to take care of when picking up a device in-store?

Or your concerns, these are new models so weirdness will happen. However, Apple do have a pretty good return policy so if something's wrong just tell them, they tend to make it right.

tbh I'd stop reading all those things apart from checking for nicks and scratches out the box. don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with wanting to be well informed but there more you read these things the more you look for issues.

I say, open the MacBook, make sure there is no obvious damage and then enjoy the machine. if there are issues that come up, Apple will have no problem rectifying them for you.

There are thousands of people have received their new MacBook without issues. Just wait for your delivery, then return/exchange it if you have to. Remember:

"Worry is misuse of imagination."

an just saw an example of Apple's service with someone in the European thread reporting a dead pixel to apple. they've let him keep it until his replacement arrives!

I ordered on 25th October, was given a date of 29th Nov - 6th Dec. Still in Processing:

14" Max 10/24/32GB/1TB

My base 14" with 1TB SSD upgrade was placed 19th October, est. 19th-26th November delivery, got the DHL pick up notification on Saturday, and Apple says it will arrive Friday 12th.

Agreed. I’m going to look for scratches and obvious damage, then see if the charger and cable work as expected, that’s it.

Ah I never have worried over anything when I bought my first ever Apple, the MacBook Pro 2011. Lately, it seems that there are some issues that just keep popping up with each iteration.

Scratches on iPhones and even MacBooks, I never expected or imagined. Now I open devices right at Store because of that.

I can only hope I get a perfectly working machine. I don’t want to keep going out to the Store during this COVID time.

Got in touch with support just now and they reckon my order is "likely" to ship from the UK as it's standard spec and no changes to memory/SSD... that would be a faster shipping time at least. Does anybody know if DHL/DPD deliver on weekends?

EDIT: The CS also suggested I could put a hold on my order if I was going to be changing addresses mid way through the delivery window. But also that, if the status changed to "Preparing to ship", I would have time to get in touch with CS and get them to change the address

DPD do, don't think DHL do though.

So if I'm not at my delivery address from Sunday, and my order is still "Preparing" by Thursday night, then I would need to change the delivery address to the one I'll be at from Monday because there's slim chance that it'll come to me at the current delivery address before Mon - I think... 🥴

thanks for this.. the fit is the snug look I was after!

will press the button on the order now :) looks like they are now 'pre-order' so 2 weeks or so wait.

toss up between navy or deep brown!
Yes, I’m after a snug fit too so it’s good news. All the colours are great. I chose the deep brown but would be happy with any of them.

It seems like a few people on this forum don’t know how to sell to CEX without getting played/scammed.

A few years back I sold my immaculate 12” MacBook to them, I took it to the shop and asked how much would I get for it, after 2 minutes of visual inspection, it was rated as grade “A” by them. I got a quote and I was asked if I was happy to proceed and leave the MacBook with them for 1-2 hours for further tests(battery, webcam, speakers etc). I was fine with that, then they printed out the receipt with the quote on it(grade A)and a disclaimer I was happy to leave the MacBook with them for further inspection! I signed that and left.

Couple hours later I walked out with the quoted price.

As bad as CEX is with their ridiculous high prices, there is no way they would deliberately damage a product as they want to sell it to the next punter for as much as possible.
Yeah, I think I got suckered in by the significantly higher offer than Apple and positive feedback (on here and elsewhere) about Music Magpie. May try CEX in town when I get my MacBook back.

Same really. I have used them once in the past, many many years ago and it was ok. CEX prices generally aren’t great but as you can go into a store it tends to be better overall - I usually take some photos of the devices while I’m at the counter as evidence, though not had any problems

Look for my post a few pages back.

They marked down my immaculate MacBook which was on visual graded an A then by the end of the day it’s a B with light scratches.

They’re careless with the units they test at best.
