Rofl :D

I'm trying very hard at being patient (tall order believe me ;)), but I do find it odd that Apple seemed to set aside very little or no stock for the UK online store. Maybe there was a manufacturing delay or something, but then why are some (UK) Apple resellers already shipping them out...? Honestly.

It's 7 business days so if you ordered on the night of the keynote like I did, it won't be despatched until Thursday/Friday!

Well it is now showing 'Prepared for shipping' today, so seems its 7 normal days, not business days.

I cancelled my online order over the phone (and on my online account it shows as being cancelled, as was still "Not yet shipped" when I cancelled) so I could buy one at a Retail store, which I did. However, Apple have taken the money out of my account for the online purchase!!

Is this normal?! Will the money be returned or will I have to pester them to give me my money back?

Hi, yes I would say it is very normal, although I have to say I disagree with Apple's policy.

I ordered a 2.4 Macbook on Thursday night with iPod (under the back to school thingy) and then decided to cancel the iPod as, to cut a long story short, I couldn't be arsed. Even though I cancelled within an hour and my Macbook still hasn't shipped, Apple proceeded to take the full amount for both Macbook and iPod on Friday.

I called Apple to confirm I would receive the cash and they got onto the billing department for me to make sure of it and confirmed via email today that I would indeed get my money back for the iPod. Apparently if you use a debit card and not a credit card they take the money ASAP and do not wait to ship the product (according to 2 seperate Apple phone operator people in the US). I've never come across such an odd debit card policy before in the UK.

So, in summary, if you are worried as I was, give them a ring and get them to confirm it but I highly suspect they have refunded the money as they should.
These problems are exactly why companies should not debit accounts until products are out of the door.

Mine's just shipped a few minutes ago.

Could you tell me when you ordered yours and which model it was?
I orderd on Thursday night (16th) and still have not had my order progress to "Prepared for Shipment", let alone actually shipped!
I had expected dates of the 31st to the 3rd I beleive, as many others appeared to.
Also, how long was the order in the "Prepared for Shipment" phase before actually being shipped, and how long are you expecting before it arrives at your door?

Thanks, sorry for the questions!

PresentACat same date/time as you so not sure sorry - but I noticed that Amazon UK have the MB Ali 2.0 in stock and ready to ship !!!!

It's a real kick in the face isn't it!
I guess our money is guaranteed since we have already slapped it down online, whereas they need some in stock in the shops and elsewhere to get impulse buyers. Feel a bit cheated, I'm hoping it ships out tomorrow so I can get it before the weekend.

The reason why Apple, any every other company, takes money from your debit card immediately is because debit and credit cards operate totally different. With a debit card, you are using the funds from your bank account. If you don't have enough funds in your bank account - the order won't go through and you will be told to contact your bank.

However, with a credit card - as you are buying on credit (which you pay back at the end of each month, when the bill comes through) the order goes through immediately - assuming you have not reached your monthly allowances on your credit card.

In short, the companies (Apple) need to cover their backs and make sure you have enough funds to pay for the product. If you use a credit card, Apple could care less (not quite true :D ) as the credit card companies are collecting all the money for them.

Tuesday 14th about 2 hours after the keynote. Stock 2.0 model.

It went into prepared for shipment in the middle of last night, so it was in that state for about 16-20 hours. I believe Apple sends a shipment out once a day so I don't think it should ever be in "prepared for shipment" for more than 24 hours.

Is it just me or do they appear to be waiting 7 ACTUAL days before shipping. People who placed orders on the day of the keynote (Tuesday) had theirs go out yesterday - at least in the case of straightforward orders.

I have the same shipping estimates as above, but I only ordered a standard 2.4, however I did add an apple remote in which made the online ordering system act like it was a BTO job.

has anyone whose macbook has been shipped been allocated a tracking number or shipping company yet?
