Currently reviewing the DJI Action 2 - nice little gadget, but runs HOT!

There is nothing quite like the feeling when you break your glass screen protector. Your immediate thought is, is that the screen or the protector I’ve cracked? Then the relief when you peel it off and it’s fine underneath. I’ve only done it once. I always have a screen protector and case. My phones get retired looking like new.

This is a highly general question for you folks in the UK. A buddy of mine is looking to move to the UK (he works in healthcare). What cities should be looking at in terms of decent living expenses (he knows he doesn't want London proper, outside is OK) and a good job market? I have only been to Manchester for a football game and was pretty certain I was going to die and United wasn't even playing City.

Any particular reason why it must be a city?
Cities have a habit of immigrants moving in and unfortunately it can cause a hell of a lot of internal issues.
There are tons of decent towns where it is quiet and law abiding. Most have their own hospitals and health care systems.

I’m sorry, what?

Sorry if you have taken offence, I am all for helping those in an unfortunate position… I only say what I have said as it is evident with a lot of todays society.
Oh no, I hadn’t taken offence. I was genuinely trying to figure out what you meant. Especially as you were replying to someone who’s friend would be an immigrant coming to the U.K.

Thanks….. Yes, all I wanted to let the poster know is to be aware as Cities tend to be an area of main attraction (better job vacancy), it often ends with a degree of locals becoming quite negative to further input of immigration.

"Working in healthcare" is a bit vague and, given the state of the country at the moment he probably wouldn't be allowed in without an actual job (sad, but true).

But if you're looking at cities mainly, and with good transport links to other places: Leeds, Sheffield and Newcastle are good, I'd say (I live in one, have commuted to work in another). Not York; too touristy, so expensive. Same with Bristol, I hear. Lincoln, Leeds and Sheffield have lots of green spaces in or near the cities. Bradford has it's supporters (the local politicians, mostly). Nottingham might be a good bet as well. All have regular train services to London and good road links. And good job markets (except Bradford, where everyone commutes to Leeds!)

I think the inference is that there are good immigrants and there are bad immigrants.

Cardiff and Swansea both have large hospitals, Cardiff is a University hospital. Both university cities so accommodations and expenses should be OK. Both sea front, not far from the mountains but will need a brolly.

Though don't be around when Cardiff and Swansea play each other.

City/Town, I know he's not big into rural.

To the best of my knowledge he is in talks with a prospective employer about obtaining a work visa and going to work for said employer. I'm assuming time is not an issue with the employer, otherwise who would wait for an American to get a visa if the job needed to be filled with urgency.

Chesterfield Royal Hospital is very good, always ranking high. The town has a few direct links to the M1 motorway to London or other cities.
Rental accommodation is cheaper than the south of England (2 bed from £400+, 3 bed from £500+).
Low on crime and friendly residents.
Nearest city is Sheffield 12 miles north.
Shame he’s not into rural; Chesterfield is right bang on the edge of the Peak District for countryside walks, pubs.
