My 16gb wifi model (all I need!) is on it's way to my local tesco, friends staff discount and voucher got it me for £260.10! :)

Picked up my 32GB LTE Silver ystrdy which was reserved at Oracle Reading. Keep checking every hour at reserve and pickup site, they are updating it quite frequently.

John Lewis price match success stories?

Anyone managed to buy a retina iPad Mini from JL and get it price matched with Tesco successfully?

Do you get to keep the 3 years warranty?

Yeah, happy with that, just got an email saying it's ready for collection. Urge to just go home from work now is strong!

Still waiting for my email to say it's ready to collect my 32GB WiFi rMini. Wonder if it's just sitting there waiting for somebody to press the received button who's on lunch... hmm...

From what I recall in the past, John Lewis are rather strict with their price match policy. Whilst the product is the same, their "bundled services" are different, and so I imagine they will reject the price match on the grounds that they offer the better warranty.

I ordered my Retina iPad Mini 32gb with wifi and cellular from apples website on the 13th and still says processing. Has anyone in the uk had any more progress than this on cellular models?

I placed the order for 32GB LTE from UK on Nov 13th and my expected shipping date was 28th. I managed to reserve and pickup same thing ystrdy from Reading Apple store and now cancelled my order.

Actually, they're usually fine with warranty differences (i.e. they make a big play of the free two-year warranty they have on a lot of tablets, and now the three-year one on the retina mini, as well as five years on TVs, so there are bound to be differences with other shops which stick to the standard one-year warranty). They price matched my Air with Tesco and I got my £30 refund the other day, and the iPad has a two-year John Lewis warranty.

What they are strict about is the difference between a cash-back voucher, which apparently they will not match (although I think some people have got lucky with this), and a straight lower price, which they will match. The Tesco discount occurs before you pay, so counts as a lower price.

That's pretty much what they said to me originally. When I bought my rMini Tesco did not have stock but Currys was offering it with post-purchase (21 days) cashback. The store said they would not price match that. Fortunately a few days after I bought the rMini Tesco got some in so I filed a price match request and they accepted it.

I tried to get John Lewis to price match last night when I purchased a 128Gb Retina. The guy was well aware of the Tesco deal but said that John Lewis only price matched the labelled selling price of an item and that the Tesco price was the same as theirs. I pointed out that some people had been successful in price matching the actual price they would end up paying with Tesco once the vouchers had been deducted. So he checked it with other staff and quite quickly said afraid not. Tesco didn't have any stock of the 128Gbs anyway. Don't mind the £30 extra as its better for me to have a 3 year warranty and 90 days return period.

Picking it up tomorrow :)

Sounds good! Is their return period still applicable if you've opened and used the device?

Thanks

Did you order via click and collect or in person in the store (i.e. where did the payment occur, in the store or online)? If it was online then put a stock alert on the iPad you're interested in from Tesco and as soon as it comes in do a price match request via the website. You have 28 days to make the request so even if it's not back in stock I'd suggest putting a request in anyway on the 26th or so (as Tesco's offer ends on 27th I believe) and see if they'll match it (the iPad I had bought was in stock when I lodged the request but out of stock when they reviewed it but they still honoured it). If it was purchased in store then you have the make the price match request in store so you may be out of luck.

Thanks for that info. I had issues with them price matching gifts for my wife last Christmas. Fortunately, John Lewis are usually very good with customer issues... but price matching with lesser warranties is very impressive.

Still on processing items over here too! :(

Ordered on the day of release around 8.45am so in the first hour of release. Only a couple of days of the shipping window left so I have a feeling it's going to run right up to the 2nd of Dec delivery window. The express shipping option I took them up on is probably moot at this point!

I think we will get them within the time stated but the express shipping probably at best only applies when it is in the UK going out for delivery. Am guessing TNT or UPS.

Ordered retina mini 32G cellular with engraving on 13th, the status changed to "Preparing for dispatch" last night. I know engraving would extend processing time, anybody else choose to engrave?

That's great that the larger capacity LTE models are coming through. You have to be the first one I have heard of.

Any update on quality? Any problems?

Could you also tell me the start of the serial number. I know people say it isn't a good indicator for screen quality, I'm just curious if the larger capacity models are coming from a different factory.

Feel very fortunate (edit: or maybe not!) my 128gb cellular came so soon (UK). Ordered Nov 12th at 0830 from the store, arrived Monday, incredible considering it was due Nov 26 - Dec 3 officially.

Only now got to really play with it. Monday night life got in the way, it shipped with 7.0.3 and needed an update. As I was up early yesterday, had no real opportunity to restore it.

Serial number starts with DLXLM1 if that means anything to anyone. Screen, to my eyes at least, looks really good. No light bleed, no yellowing. Colour gamut looks very similar to my old Mini - next to an Air, it likely looks muted, but in isolation it still looks very good indeed, certainly not a deal breaker for me.

Haven't tried that image retention thing yet, will do that when I'm willing to stop using it for 7 minutes :)

In the absence of any photo editing skills, I've used my finger to obscure my serial number, below.

EDIT: Oops, this'll be going back :(. Greenish line has appeared down the centre of the screen. Weird, hasn't been there for last few hours, and now it is. Rebooted, still there. Will post a pic in a minute. Given how scarce stock is of this model, probably keep it for a couple of weeks and get the Apple store to replace it a later time.

EDIT 2: Green line image attached. It doesn't show up in screenshots (i.e. home+sleep button). So here's a very hastily taken photo of it frommy phone, green line ahoy. Garbage! Stilll, I'll keep on using it in the mean time :)
