I will most prob be purchasing a 64gb Air at Bluewater Apple store or John Lewis. They both open at 8am. Not sure what sort of time to get there though? Looks like there will be more stock this time round and most people seem to be getting 16 or 32gb models.
I'll definitely be getting the 32gb mini from tesco with that deal, should be a good upgrade from the iPad 1, would love the air but for the same price I'd appreciate double the memory on the mini much more than the bigger screen, plus the portability will be a plus. 16gb is a ridiculously low amount to deal with especially when you factor that you only get to use 70-80% of it.
Thanks for the info, so does that mean that we would be able to make a warranty claim past the 1 year period under eu consumer law? Would apple have to honour that even it was taken to to retail apple Genius Bar?
The EU claim is dealt with by the shop you bought it from, not necessarily Apple. And if you did buy it from an Apple store, you have to take it back to that particular Apple store. And it lasts for 6 years.
That's interesting, I wasn't aware of that. So I suppose it would only relate to actual manufacturing/ electrical defects that may occur in the period?
As long as the defect was there from purchase, which is pretty easy to claim with hardware faults, even ones which develop. I'm having problems at the moment because my 27" iMac display was replaced by Apple in warranty, but it is faulty again and because it's not the original display they say i'm not covered under the EU consumer law.
I am currently having the exact same problem! Lakeside apple store refuse to touch it because it was replaced under warrenty in the past. It's a SuperDrive which refuses to eject which clearly is not fit for purpose under the sale of goods act. I ended up calling apples customer relations in California to complain, they called the UK store that was giving me issue and instructed them to accept the iMac for a full repair.
Thanks ill bear that mind. I need to get it to an apple store to get it diagnosed as it could be the graphics card instead of the screen...then there would be no problem! I've already had the SuperDrive replaced as well...
So to sum up, the EU warranty is good but more hassle than purchasing apple care.
Not quite, in the first 6 months the law deems the fault to have been present at purchase, after 6 months the buyer has to prove it was present. The 6 year is a slight red herring, it isn't a warranty but a right to commence action for a failed product (in court).
Going into a retailer and claiming a 2 year or 6 year EU warranty is bound to make the retailer laugh through, it is not a warranty.
I suggest anyone wanting more info, read the Sale of Goods Act 1979 (which is what the "EU warranty" alludes to).

I suppose if you want a good warranty at no extra cost John Lewis is everyone's best bet.

Hello just wondering if anyone has any info on what stores in the UK are getting iPad Airs on launch day? Got a curry's tesco and asda near me.

Anyone got any good advice to stop me buying an ipad Air on friday even though i am pretty sure i want the mini?
ALthough if i could sew a pocket into the inside of my jackets that fit an ipad air, i'd probably prefer one of those

wait for the iPad mini its a smarter device to use overall. the only reason I'm getting an Air is because my mum uses it for the majority of the time and she says a mini will hurt her old eyes. even though it won't i think she just likes a bigger tablet

Lol we're of the same mind. Despite previously pinning my mast to the Mini, I can't get past the fact I enjoy using the full size more. When I'm at home, the full is far more pleasant for me, and a viable alternative to using a laptop (for consumption). When I've got access to a laptop and a Mini, I'd never pick the Mini, retina or not, websites still often require a bit of zooming. The full replicates a, admittedly dumbed down, desktop browsing experience far better than the Mini ever could.
Gah.
One solution would be to buy both, plumping for the cheapest LTE Mini for portable duties (use it all day at work) but I can't deny I'd feel like a complete sucker doing that, and utterly utterly ashamed of myself, heh.

I COULD just keep my mini for portable use, and then get a seperate Air....

Yep, that's a possibility for me. But I know what I'm like, in a few months when you can pick up retina Mini's off the shelf, I'll be using my old Mini at work, find myself with a long break, and think....balls to this, and trot over to the Manc Apple Store.
The only thing is with John Lewis the likely hood is that they will send it away for repair and only replace it if it is then a right off. With Apple under the standard warranty or Apple Care they will just replace it on the spot.
That is true however the cost of (£79) apple care to extend to the 2nd year is probably a little high vs waiting for a repair to be sent away and returned within a few weeks.
I'm not sure to be honest but will most likely buy direct from apple as you quite rightly said they would offer an instant replacement.

Don't forget that AppleCare+ also covers two incidents of accidental damage (charged at £39 each) with an immediate swap over the two years too.
