Assuming Apple puts them up for order on their online store tomorrow at midnight I'm going to place an order on there probably using the Apple Store app. Then depending on estimated delivery time if its longer then a week I will try and pick one up at an Apple retail store or maybe try Curry's/PC World/John Lewis. Hopefully supply is good and it won't be a long wait where ever I order or pick up from.

Typically on past product launches, has anywhere other than Apple had stock of the full range of capacities and colours?

I wonder what time orders will start via apple online. Either 12am or 8am. Apple haven't specified any times and none of their sales assistants seem to know.

They should have publicised it like they did with the 5S so at least we knew when to look out for the site to go live!

I suppose it'd just a waiting game now.

When the ipad 3 launched my local PC World/Currys had every model. I live in Surrey.

Its a shame they could not just let us order online a day or two before launch. Not everyone is close to an Apple store.

Does anyone know - if I bought the iPad Air from John Lewis with a 2 year guarantee included, could I still take it to an apple store directly for repair if something went wrong in the first year (i.e. does the one year apple limited warranty apply regardless of where the device is bought)?

Obviously, if something went wrong in year two, then I would take it to John Lewis.

Yep, can take it to Apple in the first year and deal with JL in the second year if you wish. JL has great customer service probably the best after or on par with Apple IMO

I wouldnt go that far JL were repairing/replacing something of mine for 8 weeks
And I was messed around something rotten.
They did sort me out in the end but took a unexceptable amount if time in doing so.
My tv needs looking at now and im just dreading going threw it all again

Indeed, JL isn't what it once was. In my experience, I have had a much quicker turnaround for repairs in apple stores (either the same day, or within a week), as compared to returning a product to JL under a warranty.

It's good that I can take the device straight to apple in year one, since that way I get the best of both.

I was just about to say that we were given an availability time for the 5s. I read a blog post today that said the launch was confirmed for 12:01AM PST with "varying other times internationally." Does this mean they'll be corresponding times, i.e. 8:01AM GMT?

----------

Am guessing 8am, John Lewis have confirmed they will start at 8am so am assuming they might be under instructions by Apple to do so. So you'd assume the rest will also start 8am.

That's interesting to know. I'd heard that stock will be plentiful and Apple will allow online reservations for store pick up at launch. I'm debating whether to reserve online and go pick it up at my local Apple Store or order my iPad and cover at the same time and just wait for them to arrive. With "plentiful" stock you'd expect us all to get 3-5 days delivery with 24 hour dispatch right?

I'm just going to try apple online store at 12:01 tonight, keep trying until half past or so, than if its not up return at 8:01

I am guessing the point of not letting people order online until launch day was to get larger lines outside stores. By the time midnight tonight comes round anyone who wants one that day will be going to a store anyway so I don't see why they won't open up online orders at midnight.

Do you think they'll be able to sell them from midnight? Suppose if Apple allow for ordering online from then there's no reason for them not to be able to sell from midnight. Have a 24-hour Tesco in town so that might have to be my port of call on friday!
I asked the guy when I was returning my Nexus 7 and he said they weren't allowed to sell them at midnight because Apple had them embargoed until 8am. But AFAIK, Apple weren't selling the iPad 3 until 8am and Tesco still sold them at midnight, so it's possible his store wasn't doing a midnight launch but others might be.

FYI, he also said the mini was coming 21st November.

Spoke to tesco on twitter and it sounds like only the larger Tesco stores likley tesco extra ones will have them in stock though it sounds like they will be on Tesco directo from midnight.

Ordering from Tesco Direct seems like best bet with the £30 discount.

Yep I could get a lot of apps with that £30. Still on an iPad 1 so I have a lot to catch up on lol.

Just spoke to them again and they told me they are actually not 100% sure if they will take online orders at midnight or not yet.

It's bloody annoying that Apple won't tell us when online orders are going live as they did with the 5s.

If they are going live at 12:01 then I'll stay up. But if I stay up til then and they don't go live I'll want to get an early train and get to my nearest Apple store. But if I've only gone to bed at midnight I'll only get a 5 hour sleep.

What difference does it make for Apple to just keep us informed? It was so much more civilised when we could pre-order and get our deliveries on release day.

Why has Apple gone backwards in this regard?
