so I had ordered from Apple directly and was waiting for 7-10 delay that's been talked about.

Went and crunched the numbers yesterday. Looked at EE, Three, and O2 and what I would pay over 24 months with a sim-only contract and my iPhone I was going to buy sim-free straight from Apple. I was pretty surprised that a few of the sim-free deals with the carrier were nearly identical to the contract versions and I be paying quite a bit less upfront..

People tend to forget to also factor in resale value - your phone will probably sell for less in 2 years time if it's locked rather than unlocked - if you use one of the phone trade-in companies the difference can be considerable depending on the network. e.g selling an iPhone 4S 16GB on envirofone today:

Unlocked: £115
EE: £65

You can also expect similar differences on eBay etc.

Of course this might not be your intention, or the reduced up-front cost might make it worthwhile for you, but maybe it's relevant to others.

The document my friend sent (dated September 2014) says only 12 month SIMO contracts are included now. Similarly with the "buy now then we'll discount later if you're eligible" means you can't guarantee any discount during the purchase.

That sucks, I wonder when it changed? Hmmm I am still on a 30 day contract and have been for over a year.. Maybe they will make me go to
A 12 month contract if I change? If I lost the discount would probably go to 3.

To be fair, they have been done over by the networks and had to cease trading. They have not actually done anything wrong, they simply don't have a product to sell as the networks want to take it all in-house and not use third parties.

CPW will be next.

I agree & disagree re P4U.

I think their reputation sunk them. They are abysmal wide boys when it comes to selling things and their 'short term profit' approach has come back to haunt them in the long term.

If they had a shining reputation for customer service and were a beacon of great selling and aftercare, the networks wouldn't have pulled out.

The fact that all 4 networks to have pulled out tells you something about P4U and the fact that the directors must have absolutely known on Friday that they were moments from going into administration, but decided to keep taking people's money for iPhones is absolutely typical of these bunch of sharks.

I'm obviously not saying all shop & sales staff are like it, but most of them are 'quick back Charlies' and you can see/hear it in everything they do, from they way they approach and speak to customers, to the way the sometimes barefaced lie to seal a deal.

I agree that P4U were an awful company, but no worse than CPW or the other mobile shops that are no longer around...but I don't think that had anything to do with them losing the networks, that's far more down to the networks greed...three were the first to pull out of both CPW and P4U and have gone all out on a money grab with their latest iphone "deals"...The others are just following suit and it's a bad day for customers as going direct with the networks will almost certainly mean we'll be paying more for less on future service, just as is the case with three this time around.

So what's the wait time now for ordering from the UK Apple store today/tomorrow? Is there even any point in pre-ordering now?

Hello everyone! :)

This is a bit of a long one, sorry lol!

I've been quietly following and reading along for a couple days now because I'm keen to see how everyone else has been getting on through their iPhone 6/6 plus preorder journey!

So here's my experience so far, on Friday morning after a good half an hour and a bit of refreshing the apple preorder page on both my MacBook using Google Chrome and on my current iPhone 5S just using my mobile network data (O2) - wifi turned off. I managed to get through an order an iPhone 6 plus 128gb in gold on my iPhone with the confirmation email coming though at 8.39am, I probably could have done it a couple minutes or so sooner if it wasn't for my first few payment attempts with my Santander card being rejected, leaving me in a right old panic and quickly racing to my purse to pull out my TSB card instead lol! I'm actually getting a bit peed off with Santander as recently they have been blocking so many of my online purchases and then calling me 10 minutes or so later with an automated message asking me to confirm recent payment attempts and then informing me that due to their suspicion of fraud they hadn't allowed them to go through and therefore I should try again. This is not an ideal situation to be in for such a time sensitive order lol! But anyways, despite all of that I managed to still secure delivery for 19/9 wooohooo and my order status changed to preparing for dispatch that same day a few hours later! I've never preordered before as I tend to be hesitant as to whether I really need the latest iPhone but then end up wanting one anyways and hating myself for not being more prompt about acquiring one sooner (with the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5S I left it until around a week or so after their launch to actually decide I want one and then it took several weeks more to actually get my hands on one because I'd left it so late). I've stopped dealing with the whole phone on contract thing a couple years ago now because I prefer buying the phone sim free and then shopping around for a sim only plan to suit me and my latest handset - plus after the first 24 month contract I took out for myself following my excitement of turning 18 and finally being able to have my own I felt super suffocated and did not want to get into that long term commitment again anytime soon lol. At the moment I'm a couple months into a 12 month 4G O2 sim only and I get 8GB of data, unlimited everything else for £30 a month (there was £120 cashback with that deal through Carphone Warehouse as well which was great). I was on Vodafone on a sim only before that and while they were very good in terms of coverage and customer service, I felt like I was paying too much with them when O2 offered more data for a better price and additional features such as visual voicemail and call merging included in their iPhone plans, I'm happy I moved over to O2 as their customer service has been wonderful and I have great coverage with them also. In terms of cases I've just ordered a cheapy eBay one for the time being which should arrive in time for my iPhone 6 plus, but I've preordered the ultra hybrid Spigen case which has the clear hard back and champagne gold edge to go with my beautiful new iPhone 6 plus in gold! I really love the clear hard back Spigen cases and have been using them for my current iPhone 5S and old iPhone 5, I find that they just give great protection without hiding away the beauty of the iPhone.

I couldn't really say why I opted for the 6 plus as opposed to the 6 because I don't usually like large handsets (I've seen a few of the more recent Samsung phones and often felt like they were a bit too big for my liking) but I think through watching 6 vs 6 plus comparison videos and iPhone 6 and 6 plus hands on videos on good old YouTube I thought if I'm going to spend this much money on a new phone I may as well get the biggest and bestest one, right?! :D

Just out of curiosity though, does anyone have an iPhone 6 plus case to share? I've seen the 6's posted but was wondering how the iPhone 6 plus looks - would be great to see some!

I do hope everyone has a good day and can resist temptation of constantly refreshing that apple order page to see if preparing for dispatch has changed to dispatched lol!

Hey, I want to get the 6+.

One problem I've always had with my iPhones is Data. I find my data runs out really fast. Does anyone have any cheap solutions for the UK? I'm currently with vodaphone.

check out the three sim only plans .. all you can eat (and it's genuine) data and plenty of other stuff for £15 a month!

3~4 weeks at least.
Or queue in store on launch day *good luck with that*.

Start queuing in store now is probably the best advice!

I just hope they have some display models around after friday. I want to play with them a bit before I decide if I want one and which size. Even some dummy units would do!

Avoid giffgaff, they have unlimited data at the moment but they are meant to be removing this soon. Three is probably your best bet.

Move away from vodafone to three and get sim-only plan with unlimited data...
I am currently on a 1month rolling contract with unlimited data/calls & text sim-only from Three and I pay £26 a month.

To be fair, that is their job. They are not trying to become mates with you. They want to sell you something and get the deal signed as quickly as possible - that's what sales people do.

People go to stores like Phones 4 U because they are trying to get a cheaper deal than what the networks offer, so people can't go to such a store and then complain. I don't get the logic.

The thing about CPW that I liked (although I stopped buying there many years ago) is that they paid their staff the same flat rate of commission, whether they signed you to Vodafone, O2 (Cellnet as was), EE, 3 (obviously not any more), etc.

It made/makes people feel comfortable that they genuinely are getting the right deal for their mobile needs, instead of what made the sales person the most money (P4U).

The downside to CPW, is that they have now merged with the Dixon group and that can only end in tears.

Dixons must have had one of THE worst service reaps when they were on the high street and now they're not any more, Currys/PCWorld are there to,pick up where they left off, with their lack of service, lack of training, lack of knowledge, lack,of anything unless it involves selling you a super expensive warranty, in which case they're over you like a tramp on chips.

I think CPW may have survived post P4U going, had they not been in with Dixons, but Dixons will surely kill off any good service rep that CPW currently has.

Don't forget, CPW already tried the 'big store' approach with Best buy here in the UK and look how that turned out.

People are getting wiser when it comes to phones and don't need sales people crawling over them land CPW will surely feel that too in the not too distant.

Yeah it was somewhat difficult to set my EE F+F discount up too.

Got there in the end though, now pay less than £15 for 4gb data on sim only, ready for my £700 outlay on the phone.

I'll prob still switch back to 3 when I can.

From my experience with the CPW they have already begun appointing the dixons approach. How the dixons group is the last man standing of the big electronics stores is beyond me....

My Spigen iPhone Plus case just arrived and, uhhh, yeah, carrying a paper cut-out around for a few days didn't really let it sink in how huge it is...

It's not about what they want though is it?
The core of any business should be helping a customer and meeting their wants and needs first and foremost.

P4U are/were notorius for not using that technique and misleading customers into taking a deal, just so they could hit their individual sales target for that week/month.

They can if they were mislead.

Blimey what do you do? I'm on a 20GB plan with vodafone and even with tethering I won't use it all.

But yes plenty of choices about to tailor your choices. I envy people who can go to another supplier, due to country side network issues I'm stuck with vodafone as my only provider. However £57/month over 24 months for a 6+ 128GB with 4G unlimited minutes/texts (I use about 200 minutes per day) and 20GB data plus Netflix and either Spotify or Sky Sports is not that bad actually.

Does anyone know prices for the Sim Only on EE for MORE than

Isn't one. I've asked online, phone, chat for a SIMO EE with more than 4Gb and they won't offer me. I've even said that this will be the 1st to join and possibly other family but nope.

I need at least double 4Gb data now and more in the future....

Yes I have a cheap(er) solution.

Voda for 10GB/ month on 64GB + is:

£58.50 + £99 for 24 months is £1503

or 7GB for

£53.50 + £99 for 24 months is £1413.

I have unlimited data (4GB tether) and texts and 200 minutes on three:

£15/month + £699 upfront with no contract is £1059 for 24 months service.

With regards to our Phones 4U shop-in-shop colleagues we hope to help them secure new jobs with us and will be opening up discussions with the administrators to agree what we can do.
11:13 AM - 15 Sep 2014

So I guess one alright thing to come out of them going into Administration is that some jobs may be saved.
