UK iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus Thread

Has everyone decided which phone they're getting?

Initially, I wanted the 6 but that seems like a downgrade compared to the HTC M8 I have atm. Although, 5.5" does seem rather big... maybe I'd get used to it.

Thinking about 64gb 6+.

Evening all!

Just to clarify, on Friday at 8am - we'll be able to reserve the iPhones for in store pick-up? :)

Around £800... I'll have some leeway.

Also I looked online at prices of iPhone 5 at launch from 3 and it totals around £895. If I can bag an iPhone 6 for that price, I'll gladly take it. Also I can use the fact that I'm due for an upgrade and haggle with 3 to lower the cost. Works every time.

Three UK's launch contracts for the iPhone 5 were underpriced. They increased the contracts by up to 20% a few weeks after launch

I'm still amazed I got an iPhone 5 contract with 400 mins, unlimited data and texts for £30 month with a £80 upfront cost. The same contract on an iPhone 5S at this current time is around £42 a month on Three right now. Crazy.

Not at all.

It's either a 4.7" 64GB or 5.5" 64GB - I really can't make up my mind which screen size to go for :(

The one I looked at was £34 p/m with £79 upfront. If I can get an iPhone 6 for that price, I'm taking it!

I'm due for an upgrade so I'll threaten to leave them to make them waive the upfront cost or put on a recurring monthly discount. Dad has done this countless number of times.

From working for a UK carrier, I can absolutely categorically say they will not offer you anything, or if they do it will be piecemeal and will not take a 24 month contract to anywhere near £800.

They do not need to offer discounts and waivers for release of a new iPhone redesign. Stock is limited and they know that countless people will take the contract at any price just to get their hands on iPhone 6.

It's worth a try, but I wouldn't put your eggs in that basket. Your best alternative is to buy the sim-free outright and go on a Three sim free contract or Giffgaff, that should take it to around £880 or so depending on the tariff.

Goodluck!

I think you are in the same boat as about 90% of us. I can't make my mind up either. I might get both and return one when I have made my mind up

On the debate over warranty length, my iPhone 5 has just packed in from a hardware fault. I brought it on day or release so it is well and truly out of Apples 1 year warranty, but Three are replacing it free of charge based on the Sales of Goods act.

The defect doesn't messed early have to be present when you buy it, the product just needs to last a reasonable amount of time - based on what it is and cost etc. - typically seen as the 6 years of the EU directive.

So if you've got a device that still falls within this time I'd go for it. You might need to do a bit of arguing/ forcing with the company I which you brought the product, but they should honour it. Falling that, you can get a new one/ repair and then take the company through the small claims court where you'll more often than not win

Absolutely this. Apple are great for this as they won't offer resistance as they know they can turn it into a USP for their retail store. Because of their service I will always go out of my way to purchase from Apple wherever possible as I know I won't have to worry about sending letters to head office or arguing with a part-time 16 year old sales assistant or a snotty nosed manager who has no idea about Sales of Good Act.

Never fall for the BS answer retailers are told to say when out of warranty that it becomes the responsibility of the manufacturer. Beyond the 1 year, the responsibility or claim absolutely lies with the retailer. Save yourself the time and don't fall for it. The same when they claim it has to be defective from the very beginning. Manufacturing defects can manifest after day one, but are inherent within the device.

John Lewis are great too. Avoid PC World like the plague. I helped a friend with his Nexus 7 tablet, and it only got resolved the day before the scheduled small claims court where they decided to just pay out the value of the Nexus 7. Horrible company which is rotten from top to bottom. It's a shame because the money they save by being hard nosed about it is probably not worth the reputation to be known as little more than snake oil salesmen.

I think historically Apple usually confirms the pre-order times on the Thursday, so we should have an official confirmation tomorrow.

And I'm guessing most tariffs will be announced tomorrow to let people have a day to decide.

I printed out the replica cut-outs and mounted them to cardboard for a rough feel. The 6 Plus is just too big for me, I like to text one-handed, and I don't see myself watching videos on the phone too much. It really depends what you'll use it for - do you really need the OIS? Do you have big hands / are unlikely to drop the device? Do you text one-handed?

I did a mega comparison between my 5, the cardboard cut-outs, my father's HTC One (also 4.7") and mother's Lumia. The 6 Plus was a giant next to them.

I won't deny the 6 Plus looks impressive and will look impressive in person, but personally it's not for me. I do feel like I want it, but I just cannot justify it.

I'm going for the 6, Space Grey, 64GB.
16GB is getting cramped on my 5, and I'll never go for the white-faced iPhones because of the small black border around the screen. Can't face that.

You can always haggle. Just depends on you speaking to the right people. Don't call them. Request your pac and wait for them to call you. I got the 64gb iphone 5 in December (so a couple of months after release) for free on a £38pm contract.

Might be difficult to get a deal in September and October but a deal is not impossible. The guy who gave me my deal actually asked me not to make it public which I found odd to hear.

I've pretty much made up my mind, iPhone 6 64gb space grey.

I'm upgrading from an iPhone 5 16gb white. I initially wanted the 32gb this time around and I know others will argue that I'm getting an extra 32gb free but that's not the point, I would have rather they kept the 32gb option and reduced the price.

Gold iphone 6 4'7 with 64gb. Buy direct from apple and use £15 sim from three for unlimited text and data, 2000 3 to 3 minutes 200 reg minutes and all the other goodies 3 throw in with their new sims.

Massive upgrade from a £30 a month 4s

Edit: should also say, those people moving to 3, they do not do visual voicemail (my only gripe)

Will Apple have any iPhone 6 cases in stock in their retail stores on or before 19th September? This is other than the leather and silicon cases shown in the keynote by the way. I want a nice case that is clear. At the mo I have an Incase clear one for 5s that I bought from an apple store and it really feels so nice. Hoping they'll make one for iPhone 6 too.

If it's anything like when the 5 came out it will be a few weeks to a month before any brick and mortar shops have any of the decent 3rd party cases in stock, that includes apple stores and network stores. I ended up ordering online.

At least this year they should have their own cases from day one.

Sounds like you went through all the same motions I did. I like the idea of 5.5 but my hands aren't big enough and for one handed use it'll be a nightmare.

I think i've settled on the iPhone 6 4.7".

... But i'm not happy that whichever I go for I feel like I am compromising.

At the end of the day, I think I'm willing to give up the OIS, longer battery and higher resolution screen, for something thats more comfortable, both to use and have in my pocket.

Then again, taking photo's is something I do a LOT on my phone.

They say the best camera is the one you have on you, but what if it doesn't fit in my pocket?!
