Just ordered a base 15" retina MBP with 16gb of RAM through Apple's UK Education store with an upgrade to a global 3 year Apple Care protection plan and a free £70 student gift card. In total £1,724.40 (a saving of around £580) and estimated delivery time between 16th of July and 20th of July. This will be my first time owning a macbook :). Goodbye D*ll! Hopefully I will also get the 4% cash back from topcashback as well bring the cost down to around £1670.

Did you do it on your campus network or just use the link?

Do you actually need global coverage? Because you get a 3 year warranty for free as a UK student.

The ~£50 uplift only gives you phone support, and maybe makes it global coverage (there is debate about whether the standard student free warranty is international or not).

It's really bad how Apple have handled availability and shipment of these computers. Saying they ship tomorrow was an out right lie used to manufacture hype and hysteria. Still the apple stores say come in tomorrow then there are none. Then they say come in tomorrow! They say they have no view of their stock and supply chain which I think is either a lie or TERRIBLE for a computer and software company.

Either way it leaves a bad taste in the mouth of the customer particularly after being spoken to rudely by Apple staff who are obviously bored of the constant phone calls and questions of the issue.

Seriously Apple, get it together.

I have a question for all those who have ordered via higher education store.
Is the 3 year apple warranty automatically included when you buy the MBP or you have to buy it separately because when i was ordering my MBP it was showing me the applecare for 250 something?, i am totally confused over this apple care and warranty thing

See my sig for details. Only applies in the UK and should be included as standard. But shouldn't be £250 for the uplift, should be £60? Are you going through the HE store on your university campus?

Yay, shipped (RMBP 2.3ghz/16GB RAM/256GB SSD).

Quick question: Does anyone know which courier Apple will use when the Syncreon delivery hits the UK shores? TNT, UPS, DHL?

My iPad order shipped with Syncreon and then became DHL once it hit uk shores. Odly, my RMBP has shipped direclty with UPS and currently on a world tour having left China to go to Korea and this morning has made a stop off in Kazakhstan. Should be here Tuesday!?!

Mine is on the same shipment. What on earth are our RMBP doing going further away to South Korea, at least they are now heading in the right direction round the globe now to Kazakhstan. Starting to wish I had chosen expediated delivery.

No, usually that price is at the time only. You could cancel and re-order? Most people are fine with the free 3 year warranty anyway, the AppleCare uplift doesn't add much. The free warranty is automatic with purchases via the HE store.

Same shipment as me and a friend of mine, too. Apple website reckons I'll get it on Monday, UPS page says Tuesday. Weird.

well, if the uplift only gives me phone support then im fine without it as I was mainly concerned about 3 year warranty which as you said is automatically included. finally some benefit of being in the UK :p

I did it from a computer on a university network.

The chances are that I will visit Germany and the States with my supervisor for around 9 months in the next year of my PhD so I wanted as much support as possible!

I would trust the UPS delivery date, I beleive the Apple one just adds 4 days from shipment, UPS will know the exact routing and correct delivery estimate.

I think these are coming by expeditaded delivery. Looking on the UPS website, Expedited is actually the secons slowest delivery method they offer after standard letter type post.

Hmmm becoming worried now

Placed an order for mine about 5 minutes after the store came back online as an educational customer for the new Retina MacBook Pro BTO option of base with 16GB RAM. 5-7 Days delivery, arriving 25th-27th

Noticed people who ordered after me have already received their orders or have shipped. Currently mines still 'processing order'

so no retina's available still... seems like apple really dropped the ball on this. Every other new machine is available apart from this one.

Rumours that John Lewis would have it today seem unfounded also.

Neil.
