I think the delay on base units is simply because Apple are also pumping those out to retail and third party, so the actual demand is huge - so BTO'ing with 16GB of RAM bypasses this. It's a bit unfair, but then you should still get it within their original time frame, others are just early.

Bit worried about this hardware warranty thing now.

EDIT: Just got off the phone with Apple.
Education purchases still have the 3 year hardware warranty. However, it takes about a month for this to kick in on their system and switch over, so until then it'll continue to show as a regular purchase on the AppleCare System. If there are any problems, your invoice will fix it and make sure you get the 3 year cover.

Thanks for the info, that's what I was looking for. Atleast the free three year cover still stands.

If that was the case, the customs clearance would have taken place in Frankfurt, no?

Lufthansa will have agreed with HMRC to sort air freight centrally. There's no need in this day and age for it to be done at the coast.

Seems you were correct, mine has arrived LHR and expeditors says "not cleared for import". I stand corrected

Ordered on the 12th - finally shipped! Looks like its on its way to Germany and then the UK, very good news!!!!:)

How are people getting the breakdown of delivery route, etc? I don't see anywhere on my order screen to get that info.

If yours has been shipped you'll have been given a reference number.

If it isn't being merged with other items you'll have been given a UPS tracking number straight away which you obviously put into the UPS site.

If it is being merged, when you look at the tracking details you'll see a number under "Our Delivery Reference Number", starting with 82. You put that number into expo.expeditors.com.

Don't get why Apple have to physically send a gift card out to make it merge in transit. Why can't they just send you the voucher code via e-mail as soon as money is taken from your account or the actual Macbook is shipped.

To stop people scamming them for £70 worth of iTunes credit I assume.

It's the same principle though. Once the Macbook has been paid for then there is no need for the gift card to be shipped with it. Just send the code out via tracking e-mail. Cuts out the shipping costs and the need to even physically produce them.

Hmmm. Having looked up the tracking information, my rMBP is due to arrive at Heathrow tonight at 9pm.

According to my estimated delivery date, it's then going to take SIX days to reach me. I could walk to Heathrow in less time!!

It will be out for delivery by Monday if you're lucky, I'd be surprised if it hasn't arrived by Tuesday. They don't deliver on weekends but they still continue to move the package around. So depending how close you are to Heathrow it will be at your local sorting depot ready to be loaded onto the delivery van for the monday.

Is that delivery date the delivery courier or Apple's date? Apple's date will be significantly out of sync if they shipped your Macbook earlier than their own estimates, which seems to be the case for almost every MBPR order.

Where are education orders merging with the MBPR? Just curious as my iMac merged in transit in Ireland IIRC.

It'll probably be out for delivery to Apple on Monday after it has cleared customs, they'll probably pass it onto UPS on that same day too (at least they did with me anyway). Then you'll probably get it on Tuesday.

Ignore the estimated delivery date that Apple give you on the tracking page, it's almost always the "worst case scenario".

So mine did ship last night, apparently. I popped the details into expeditors and this came up:

Confused. So it's currently in China, but on the 2nd its booked on a flight from Frankfurt to London? What about the flight from China? The Frankfurt to London leg will apparently take 7 hours, haha. It will the be delivered to (either me or Apples merging unit) on the 5th?

This makes no sense!

There appears to be bits missing from that - expeditors.com does appear to be somewhat random

It'll be on a cargo flight from China to Frankfurt today or tomorrow. When it arrives in Frankfurt it'll stay there until it goes onto a cargo truck on the 2nd July to London. It'll then be sent to Apple's merging centre after it has cleared customs, probably on the 3rd. It'll be sent to your house from there through UPS, probably on the 4th or 5th July.

Thank you both! So, from Frankfurt it heads in on a truck to London, not a plane? Bonkers. I'd love to get it on the 3rd, but I guess that won't be happening (my day off). Either way, as long as it's sometime next week it's good.

I've updated my details on www.wheresmyappleorder.com Nicely done site.
