What is the price of AppleCare Auto-enroll for university students?

If you order online it's £0, if you buy in-store I believe it's about £195 (standard price is £279.99, students get a 30% discount on AppleCare)

Thanks for reply.
The £0 is 1 year telephone support and 3 years hardware warranty.
The auto enroll is when you buy applecare at the same time as the laptop (under customisation) and should be alot cheaper. Applecare = 3 years telephone support and 3 years hardware warranty.
At the moment at home so cant check.

Edit: My sister just got back to me, its £60.

Just ordered:

15‑inch MacBook Pro with Retina display
2.7GHz Quad‑core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.7GHz
16GB 1600MHz DDR3L SDRAM
768GB Flash Storage

Earliest Delivery — 12 Jul, 2012

Have been waiting over a year for this refresh, and it was just what I was hoping for. No need for an iMac, this can definitely be my one and only (truck) machine, plus its portable.

My biggest decision was on the flash storage, but after a bit of research, found that apple doesn't use standard SSD's, and upgrading the SSD by third party will cost as much or more than apple charges for their own higher capacity flash storage. Also I'm happy that the Retina MacBook Pro's glare "remarkably close" to that seen on an earlier-generation matte MacBook Pro.

As for future-proofing, I can't think of a better laptop to buy for the future, its a perfect laptop.

+1 also for Quidco - if you purchase a lot online, ebay etc; Quidco is a no brainer. The cashback eventually mounts to quite a substancial saving over a year.

Just to correct you there. £ 0 is for UK only hardware warranty. This is because of the special education arrangement with Apple. If you pay £60, you get worldwide applecare warranty

£1528 does indeed make a very tempting stance. Looks like I'll be working over the summer!

Also, am I the only one who thinks 256GB is plenty of storage? Worst case scenario would require buying a cheap external drive anyway.

Don't forget that it's now USB3, so a USB3 2.5" caddy and a modern 256Gb SSD can be had for perhaps £150 all-in, which will be plenty fast for storing your pictures, videos, backups, whatever, but without the punitative cost of being 'internal'.

I'm still divided on this though. Money's there, but something is giving me pause....

I'm seriously thinking of maxing out both the ram and flash memory. I'm just thinking of future proofing really. I did the same with my late 2008 unibody and its now staring to show its age.

Do you guys think I could possible get £500 for it on ebay? its a 2.8ghz with 4gb of ram. I wanna get some money back some how and selling my old MBP is the only way I could justify the maxing out of the ram and flash drive space.

Lol I have got about 450GB of music so definitely not enough storage, but I guess just for booting/programs it should be fine, and then you could put all other files onto an external HD.
My current macbook pro has got a 1TB hard drive so it will be hard for me to move to something thats a quarter of the size :(

Yeah. I have been using a MacBook air with 128gb and never filled it. I am just not a data who*e. dont get me wrong, I use my computer as much as anyone here. I just dont save stuff I wont use. Some people are just Obsessive compulsive hoarders with their data!
As for student apple care, last mac i bought (6 months ago) i hought on my uni's network and got 15% off and free apple care like people have mentioned before. If you are a student it is worth buying online.

Hey guys,

If I wanna use my sisters student discount but still pay under my name via the apple store online. Can I do that? At which point do apple ask for my sisters ID?

You should be, but I'd suggest setting up a seller account on amazon because their charges are lower, the buyers more genuine and overall much nicer experience. And you'll prob get a higher price

aww could have saved another £50 and made the ram upgrade even cheaper. now that the wait has gone unto 3-4 weeks i think ill stick with it.

I also think that external drives are becoming increasingly viable. They are small, can be tucked anywhere and are mighty fast. I am an a mid-2009 MBP doing Photoshop work with files residing on an external bog-standard USB 2.0 drive and everything works quite fast. Imagine moving things to a USB 3.0 drive I already have ready, or even TB! Freecom just announced a super sleek 1 TB drive Thunderbolt drive for 189 pounds RRP, I am sure it will drop to under 150 soon. Besides, you can always stick in a 64 GB SD card if you don't want any attached cables, they cost under 40 quid now and are more than fast enough for basic tasks (A Class 10 at 10 Megs/sec is more than enough to play music or open and close documents).

It's not quite 50 quid as I think cash back is calculated on ex-VAT prices. So detract 20% before calculating that 3%. But yes, it is quite a few pennies on these new Retina MBPs...

Thanks for the info I'll look into that is it free to join? I'd like to use my sisters student discount as well if i can. If I bought online with the discount do apple need to see the student id? Or do I have to call them?

Yeah they should allow you to do this, and they don't tend to ask for ID if you order online
So you should be fine :D

Excellent thanks for the info. I'm just chatting to the apple store now and they are saying you need to be on a a college or uni network for it to work. But I'm clicking on the back to school link and clicking on the college option and its taking me straight to the discounted prices. I thought they might ask for ID at checkout or something?

Apple supply - Yawn

Come on Apple this is RIDICULOUS!!!!

No RMBP's anywhere. They were suppose to be here yesterday. They were suppose to be here today. They were suppose to be here Thursday and NOW...you "may" get them early next week? No telling when though. For a computer and software company this is very very very bad reflection on you when you have no idea when the stock is coming in or can't tell where it is.

Apple store online says 4 weeks? Ridiculous!

"Shipping today" at WWDC - What does that mean exactly?

For the college discount, basically anybody can get the discount because they never ask for ID, even at the checkout. The college discount is much less than the university. For the university discount you need to be logged into the university's network to access but you will get a much better discount (e.g. £275 off RRP on the retina MBP base model).

If you can get your sister (if she's at uni) to order that would be much better. You can even have it posted and billed to your home address and there would be no questions asked

£2,582.99
