;)

Congrats!
But that delivery time... ouch

Come on Apple this is RIDICULOUS!!!!

No RMBP's anywhere. They were suppose to be here yesterday. They were suppose to be here today. They were suppose to be here Thursday and NOW...you "may" get them early next week? No telling when though. For a computer and software company this is very very very bad reflection on you when you have no idea when the stock is coming in or can't tell where it is.

Apple store online says 4 weeks? Ridiculous!

"Shipping today" at WWDC - What does that mean exactly?

Whips them into a frenzy and watch the 'undecideds' or those still balking at the price push the button. Works every time. Besides, this is bleeding edge technology, what did you expect, pile them high situation?

Congrats!

...Yeah. I deliberated too long! Had to double check a few things.. Cash flow etc. At least I will be claiming it all back from the taxman later in the year.

It'll be nice to own a fast Mac again. I've always had the best of the best on my desk at work.. but this upgrade was worth purchasing myself.

With the hardrive size, you need to think about how much bigger retina apps might be. When they get updated you might start to see your hardrive fill up quicker than you expect.

KCRS in Derby tweeted "Loads of new MacBook Pros and MacBook Airs have just arrived - stop in, call 01332 369 333 or tweet to pick one up." at 4 o'clock yesterday. Doesn't say if they're Retina or not, but might be worth a ring for anyone trying to buy in store.

Ordered the:

15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display
2.6GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7
16GB 1600MHz DDR3L SDRAM
512GB Flash Storage

....Now do how do I justify keeping my early 2011 17" MBP ? Or do I sell it? I sold an Air successfully on e-bay once but I'm nervous about selling something as expensive as a 17" MBP, 8GB, + Momentus XT.
Might have to keep it...I think my kids are going to inherit a darn fine laptop for doing homework on when they are older. :(

For the college discount, basically anybody can get the discount because they never ask for ID, even at the checkout. The college discount is much less than the university. For the university discount you need to be logged into the university's network to access but you will get a much better discount (e.g. £275 off RRP on the retina MBP base model).

If you can get your sister (if she's at uni) to order that would be much better. You can even have it posted and billed to your home address and there would be no questions asked

She's at college at the moment. We live at the same address so that's no problem. The apple store said as long as my credit card is under the billing address and its addressed to her for delivery its not a problem.

They also said they will want a copy of her ID to be emailed or faxed after the checkout is complete. I don't think they all check though seems a bit weird to do it after checkout is complete.

If you don't send the ID, I don't think they will do anything. I ordered my 27" iMac through the education store online and was never asked to send ID or proof of being a student. Received the iMac with no problems

It not like apple is hard up for the discount. Its should be that price anyway. I'm not ready to order yet anyway gonna wait till my birthday next month. Hopefully apple will have more stock in by then.

Thanks again for all the info.

I have the same issue with selling on ebay. Been on there for nearly ten years and have got burned with electrical a couple of times. No matter how careful you are there is a risk.

come on people, with a tiny bit of googling I was able to access the university student site from my own home. I got a mba delivered to my home with no questions asked and a massive discount.

Your 17" MBP will be in high demand as its the last updated version ever. I'm sure these will actually go up in value, as many professionals need the screen estate.

Also it's a bit disappointing that they don't really have them in stock in retail. Will probably take another week until they have enough in stock.

I have a 2010 13" MBP, which I will keep and give to my daughter, it's still such a great machine, even with the core 2 duo processor. Think I'll just give it a pink make over.

As for future-proofing purposes, you would be a fool not to max the ram out, especially for the re-sale value.

Do you think I could expect around £1,300 for a 17" 2010 2.66ghz i7 (upgraded from i5) 8GB RAM MBP in excellent condition? The refurbs are around £1,700

Maybe, I saw a 2011 MacBook pro 17 2.2GHz i7 go for £1200 a few days ago so it could be possible

On eBay? I'm going to try and sell elsewhere first... eBay/paypal will take around £100 won't they?

I'm also including a crumplier messenger bag and the original RAM so I think £1,300 is a good deal!

Will probably post it on here in 3 weeks.

hmmm... I would think so but check eBay etc for general prices. Personally I think you'd be hard pressed to sell a 17" mac. I still have my 2007 17" as a back up as.... Not many peeps want such a large laptop now :(

They told me over the phone they do't have any

In Covent Garden Apple Store now...I'm typing this on the new MBP now. Retina display is awesome.
NO lag on Safari., and this is not the fastest one.
They sold 5 yesterday. Have a nice table of 6 to play on..

All good to me! ;)

Yeah sorry forgot to add that it was on Ebay

Do they have any Retina MBPs in stock!?

You could try somewhere like CEX, they might have it, but you may want to put the original parts back in first and sell the harddrive/ memory to them seperatly.
