Spoke to cancellations, they don't seem to worried about me leaving after 12 years of loyal customer service.

Could this be a very clever marketing ploy from o2. Firstly claim the price of the iphone will be extortionate, then after a day or two of customers complaining, reduce the price making it look like the customer wins. Giving o2 and apple a huge amount of publicity and keeping most of their customers happy???

Can only wish....

As far as the website goes, the prices are already there so maybe you could be right

I am hoping and praying that by the time my contract is up in February one of the other carriers have managed to talk apple into allowing them to carry the iphone - I'll switch in a heartbeat as the contract prices with O2 are insane.

It's not so much the "in contract" position that many are in - I'm out of contract with the original iPhone. I'm more annoyed and shocked at the price of the phone itself for existing iPhone or o2 customers. The 32g model is more than the unsubsidisex original iPhone!

The 32GB one is a bit more expensive than the 8GB original iPhone on the two lowest tariffs, but the 16GB is cheaper and still gives you 2x the storage.

If you're on the £45 tariff, the prices seem more reasonable, although it is still an expensive phone...

I think the tariffs with O2 are very good. When i was with Tmobile i had one of those MDA Varios & I got a good tariff when they were doing promotional deals & i think i basically got webnwalk for free & had about 900mins & or text mix for around £32. It was supposed to be around £42 if i had paid the full price on it. The only reason i left tmobile was they wouldnt offer me a semi decent upgrade unless i gave up the amazing tariff i was on.

Also i was told the 3.0 software will be available on the 17th, i think for existing customers only.

I think it will be available via itunes on the 17th and is avalable (Free) to all iphone users but has a $10 charge for ipod touch users

PAYG options

Could we use the current 3G sim card in a PAYG purchased phone?

At the very least this would put us in a stronger position for the next upgrade and Kids/Spouse could then use the old iPhone and PAYG sim with its 1 year of data only plan built in?

Any thoughts?

no we wont be offered early upgrades.
my average spend is over 100 for the last 6 months.. i dont even qualify for their select customer plans apparently..
its cheaper to buy a payg than buy out of contract..

i hate 02 they are a bunch of liars.. i was told i could upgrade 3 months early when i increased my tariff.

i just cancelled my sons contract. they dont care at all. arses.

Just got my pac code thru in a text, that was faster than what they advise. So now im ready & waiting to order & i should work more hours for a while & treat myself to the 32gb!!!!!

I am just going to wait for the 8 months left to run on my contract, the iphone 3g does all I want :)

A camera on the iPhone 3G S

For some people it may not matter that you cant upgrade. However, one of the main reasons I want to upgrade is the use of a 3MP camera that shoots video. The way that O2 uses the contract to their advantage is terrible. Customers who purchased the iPhone 3G in July 2008 will never be in sync with the release of new iPhones. O2 is using the contractual agreement to turn over vast amounts of money for selling nothing to the consumer. 18 month and 24 month contracts should be abolished so that the contract ends when a new iPhone is released.

I'm not impressed by the prices - but I didn't expect anything free/cheap with 6 months to go on my 3G.

But the tethering bolt on is a disgrace. They should allow you to use your iPhone data plan with a cap of, say 1gb. In fact, is it legal to force you have to have a tethering bolt on? I must say, I didn't pay too much attention to the terms and conditions of the 'unlimited data plan'. If it's tied to the iphone, why do you need an extra bolt on?

12 months was the norm 10 years ago. Now the carriers are pushing longer and longer contract as can be seen by the new pricing. Soon it will be hard to get 18 months.

Wonder if calling it that will come back to bite them?

Did try looking on O2s website just now for that, but their website kills my work PC

well ive just called o2, to downgrade my contract from £45 to £35, and they must be busy because i had to wait in a queue which has never happened to me in the 4 years of being with them on pay monthly or the 5 years previous on PAYG, so they must be getting an ear bashing. :D

Huh, literally every time but the time I called to cancel I had to wait 10 minutes in a queue :(

But on the bright side you can get awesome 30 day rolling contracts now. I only know 2 people who're using an iPhone with the iPhone contract, the rest bought PAYGs and use simplicity plans. I don't ever want to go on a fixed term contract again.
