I've also got an 811 number which was my delivery reference number from Apple in my shipping notification e-mail. So did you put the 811 number in the UK website of TNT?

Yeah I used the uk website, putting the shipping tracking number apple gave me. The international one had no referance to ring them.

Mine starts with GB, too.
Should ship to Germany via UPS Netherlands, but tracking numbers still don't work.

One possibility is that some iPads (with starting serial number GB) are manufactured here (UK) and being distributed across Europe whilst the rest are coming from China. Could anyone whose iPads are coming from China to post their starting serial number to prove this otherwise?

My iPad has a working TNT international tracking number coming from shenzen and has a GBXXXXXXXXX serial code.
Think thats what some of you guys where asking

I was quite bemused when I read iPads being made in Leicester, but then I checked my serial, starting in GB. So that means its either made in Britain or intended for Britain, but my tracking number says its currently in Hong Kong...?

lol thats what the apple advisor told me on the phone. Apple's customer service team haven't got a clue! We should all e-mail Steve Jobs lol

I have just called TNT

My tracking number has been in Hong Kong since yesterday morning, I called TNT this morning to confirm everything was ok and they told me that it's actually in the air and on it's way.

I have just tracked my order again and it still says Hong Kong, once again I called TNT to confirm everything was OK. This time I was told that there is a delay as there was a problem with the aeroplane!!

The delivery date was again confirmed as the 27th and I was instructed to call them again if the status doesn't move on the 27th!!

EDIT: I've just called them back and spoke to a really helpful lady called 'Bethany'. Looking at my details she can see NO delay, NO aeroplane problems and everything looks normal. After she told me this and I explained I had been told that there was a problem with the plane she checked it over again, I mean really checked it.

I asked if it was common for tracking not to update for such a long period of time and she said, "yes, it's perfectly normal"

So... it looks like someone at TNT is taking the piss and giving out false info.

I just got this e-mail from Apple about why the order status page mysteriously changed with no delivery date showing or link to track anything.

We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience. Our Delivery System is currently down and therefore are unable to track any orders, however, we do expect this issue to be resolved within the following 24 hours. Please note, as your order was placed on the initial date of release, your delivery date is guaranteed for Friday 28 May, 2010. When our system comes back up, you may track the status of your order via the following website: http://store.apple.com/uk/orderstatus

Thanks for that, not had the e-mail myself yet but it's good to know that they're sorting it out. Hopefully when it comes back up all the non working tracking numbers will be fixed.

Just gave TNT another call. Apparently all the ones en-route from China are tracking fine, however those starting in the UK (I got told Coventry, who knows) aren't showing up at all on TNTs systems. She suggested trying again tomorrow, and if it's still not working, calling Apple again... :/

Okay turns out it is not impossible that my iPad was manufactured in Leicester Hinckley! I googled it with Apple and I got a page on Apple website explaining the Returns of faulty products in the UK and that you should address them to Hinckley, Leicester!! So they obviously have some sort of factory there or something similar because they need to put our 3G microsim into our iPads before they get packaged. So maybe the iPad was made in China but the rest of the assembly was done in Leicester? TNT better have my iPad on their system tomorrow! Doesn't take more than 48 hours to send stuff from leicester to London :)

Ordered 64gb 3g model and O2 sim on 12th may at 3am, reckon I was probably one of the last to get a 28th of May delivery date.
Orders just gone to prepared to ship on U.S. site, thank god :D was gettin worried there!

Had a call from TNT this afternoon confirming my tracking number. They said that my item should have been delivered today, but that it had missed a connection. It will be on it's way soon and will be delivered tomorrow. I asked her to check this as i'd arranged to be home on Friday when the delivery was expected. She put me on hold then came back and told me that yes, the delivery date had been over-ridden and it would be delivered on friday. Boo!

So now I know it's going to arrive on Friday. Still, it won't stop me checking the status on TNT every 10 minutes :)

They must have done that because Apple did not want deliveries before Friday! Ask TNT if you can pick it up at your local depot

Yeah I would think made in China and then the very last assembly stage (SIM) done in the UK.

And it makes sense that Apple have various stuff in the Midlands, with the golden triangle of road distribution. When I ordered other stuff from Apple online, stuff already in the UK, its come from a warehouse & depot that is quite near to Hinckley. In fact I think I live too near to it, because twice in a row the UPS system told me this other stuff would come to me on a Friday, then the site changed to say there was a delay and it would be rescheduled, but then a UPS van arrived on the Friday anyway! Luckily both times I had not yet gone to work.

So... it looks like someone at TNT is taking the piss and giving out false info.

Sometimes the people who answer the phonecalls at depots dont like the phone, and if they have been getting a lot of calls about ipads then they maybe got upset and decided to lie. But the truth cannot be hidden from this forum, we tracked the plane on its trouble-free journey.

Just to clear this speculation up. Apple has a distribution centre in Leicestershire and another in limerick, ireland. This is where all goods going to stores pass through including many online orders. Usually they are palleted here and split up and re shipped using the couriers again to their final destinations.

Yeah I did a little more research and I think the UPS depot is just a few miles up the road from the logistics & distribution centre that Apple use. No great surprise as its almost like one giant warehouse round here these days.

Just to add more to the confusion...

Just spoke to TNT, and they said that my iPad SHOULD be delivered 28th, (their tracking still says Hong Kong). Reason it SHOULD get delivered is due to it having to pass through UK customs, which could take a day or two :(
