I did not literally mean EVERYONE would not notice it.

And it is obvious that there are good 7455232 screens out there.

It just seems the problems seem to be with 7455232 LCDs and not the other types as far as we are all aware.

But I am sure you would agree with me that the average person would be impressed by the screen and would think any faults in colour were normal as its is a mobile phone screen anyway... the point was that when iphones exist that don't have any issues then they should all be like that.

I accept that some screens may get through that are not good but this problem is surely more widespread than that!

Macs, how are you finding the bluetooth headset?
</OT>

Have not used it much yet, but it has worked flawlessly so far. Even tried it out with Skype on my Mac Pro (which obviously was lacking a mic before). Fits my ear fine, and was not dislodged by some reasonably violent movement (not the full-on ultra kung-fu moves mind).

Of course I have nothing to compare it against as this is not only my first bluetooth headset, but also my first mobile phone (or cell phone in the US, and "Handy" in Germany). It could be utter rubish ;) It sounds clear enough, and the people on the other end have not been complaining. In typical Apple style it mates with the phone smoothly and the extra dock is handy - I've set up the original in the office.

Still got to try some range tests - with the headset in my left ear and the iPhone riding on my belt on the same side (frustrated lefty - long story) the distance is not that much.

Just took a great photo showing differences between the US iPhone and UK iPhone I have.

Look how yellow and un-natural the photo looks on the UK phone (on the left) compared to the US phone (on the right) - it is simply not right!

I'm pretty sure the yellow tint is normal. When the 5.5G iPods were released, they had a blue tint to them and the 5G iPods had a yellow hue to them.

But as you can see the US phone doesn't have a yellow tint, it also doesn't have any negative/ bad colour issues and on top of that there are no dead pixels.

I therefore assume that the screen is faulty because of all those issues together.

You can see the photo isn't right when compared ... The point is that if EVERY iPhone had the same screen it wouldn't matter but the screens vary in quality on the same product and that is what can't be correct - it shows bad quality control.

You saw the negative issue on the other pics I put up. And I bet your phone doesn't have a yellow tint.

Like I said it is about every screen being the same within reason and totally different colours and dodgy blacks does not fit into that if you ask me!

I don't even have my phone anymore, I returned it.I haven't seen any 'negative' on any of your screens, might be your camera. Try this photo out on your phone, it will clearly show the problem, please post a photo if possible.

No doubt in my mind that your phone was worse! and if I am correct you now have a 7459072 which I am sure you can see is much better.

The dark colours are NOT displaying correctly and the screen does not compare to the american phone.

And as Apple Corporate Executive relations told me on the phone yesterday all the screens SHOULD be the same - they should not vary in quality.

My phone is not the worst example of the problem but it certainly has a problem and I hope Apple replace it with a good screen!

Definitely see the problem now, I just hadn't seen it on any of your previous photos. I don't have a 7459072, I just returned the phone, period. Apple pretty much told me that there was nothing else that they could do for me, so I asked for a refund and they granted it. I'm taking the refund money and buying an iPod touch, but I guess i'll know better this time and not keep returning it and hoping for a better one.

well I specifically asked the people at apple in the US and UK to make sure they send me a good screen.

I even asked them to open it AND check it before they send me it.

I specifically told them about the different panels and that I wanted a 5 series or a 7459072.

I don't know if they will actually check the serial of the screen or just turn it on and decide it looks ok... no idea - I hope they will check the serial but who knows what the procedure is...

I don't know what panels people who ordered online from Apple have been getting - I imagine most UK customers go to O2 or CPW as they are in EVERY town so who knows what Apple ship...

It is a waiting game - what I do know is that they are having my phone sent BACK to the US to check it out so as long as they are seriously out to fix the problem they will see what the problem is for themselves.

As I said its all about quality control... panels can be made different places but should all look as good and be the same!

I noticed last night that my 5 series UK iPhone has now developed a red stuck pixel very close to the one dead pixel I already have.

Looks like I'll be returning it to the Apple Store for a exchange.

Having been through a similar cycle for my SR MBP I'd say at some point you have to stop hunting for the perfect screen.

As ridiculous as it is, Apple hardware isn't quite up to the standard we sometimes hope (my MB is perfectly fine and my powerbooks before them were ok too, however).

Good luck in your quest.

Edit: my overall feeling is that Apple have their eye on this and will possibly sort this out in due course. It's then that I'll consider if my phone has anything wrong with it that warrants return.

This will be my first exchange and if they can offer me a replacement with no dead or stuck pixels and a screen that has no negative black issues then I'll be happy enough. Colour accuracy etc will not be of great concern to me.

Good luck with it. Bet you're glad that you held back on putting on the BSE.

My screen pretty much lives up to that, so they aren't that rare.

I got my iPhone swapped tonight without any problem for a brand new boxed handset. No stuck/dead pixels that I can see and the replacement is also a 5 series panel, I had not expected that and had convinced myself it would be a 7 series.

I hate you with a spite! lol

Talk about good luck - you swapped it and you got a 5 series phone!

I bet Apple will send me another screen with the same problem!

Which Apple store did you swap it at? And was it a brand new boxed phone or did they just give you another phone? and did you specifically ask for a 5 series/ good 7 series screen?

I don't know when I will get my replacement iPhone from Apple but I hope when i do its a 5 series or good 7 series but I don't fancy my chances.

It was a brand new boxed phone so I returned everything I currently had except the sim which they swapped over for me.

I didn't stipulate any preference of handset and was happy to accept whatever they had so long as the screen was OK. Thankfully it was and even better I got a 5 series for the second time. It's a week 43 phone so they obviously are still producing 5 series panels.

All I can say to you is ... go buy a lottery ticket while your in luck!

Which Apple store was it?

I'm surprised that there are any 5 series screens out in the UK. I'm sure your aware that those screens were on the original US iPhones and are supposed to be the best screens out there!
It seems like all the good screens are in Scotland!

No i am in Manchester. And with 8 lit pixels i'd hardly say they are the best....
