Mine is not perfect but fine for me, a033. Looks better in real life than in picture, to my eyes at least.

What I've noticed on mine is the angle at which I have the display tilted (relative to the angle at which I'm viewing it) can have an effect on the color tint. If I'm looking at the display at a slightly higher angle above dead-on center, the bottom third will have a slight yellow tint. If I adjust my viewing position to be more in the very middle, the yellow at the bottom will pretty much go away. It can make me feel like there's something wrong with it at times, but adjusting my viewing angle tends to even it out.

That looks really good, IMO. Even the brightness uniformity in the corners is quite good.

here's mine in the name of science, but again I personally think P3 is harder to photograph accurately

also not sure why the bottom looks hot and bottom left in this pic, not seeing it at all full screen on macrumors forums or otherwise

so I took more pics which still aren't completely representative either since on this they show up warmer but I'm extremely happy with my display, tint and uniformity (A034)

also really baffled why my 7+ is reading like a faint yellow vertical band a third from the left of the screen, I see no yellow at all nor a band and a pure white screen but best I could capture its relative uniformity is from a screen grab of a video, exposure is all over the place with a focal point

I find the same as you said, changing the angle changes the uniformity, it's as if it's the coating rather than the screen.

I'm not playing the screen lottery, most on this thread I've seen are acceptable and we are seeing them at their worst with all white background and dark rooms.

you know the old unofficial rule: if you are a little nitpicky, chances are you will get one way worse and with new issues on top of it

if it has glaring issues, maybe it's not a horrendous idea to try to be dealt another hand

I can see why you're happy, you're screen looks great! :) Haha I've ordered a replacement MBP after seeing your pictures.

Yep! Finally some good luck came my way. And honestly I think mac is most imperative because these aren't "throwaway" devices like iOS year over year. They are long haul keepers. Even for me, someone who is upgrade inclined.

LOL, you know what’s funny? I am truly nobody special, so I don’t want anyone to read this as arrogant...but my full time job that puts the food on my table and the roof over my head is photography. I spend countless hours every week obsessing about color and I know a thing or two about color management and calibration of displays. It’s actually what I do for a living...

Then why make a flippant remark directed at those who are unsatisfied with the uneven screen on their new MacBook Pro? A yellow screen can be calibrated, but you can't fix an uneven screen.

Plus as I've learned from tv's, more accurate usually means more yellow whites or warm whites compared to pristine and cold blue. But not piss yellow.

But surely there's a balance that meets color accuracy and a presentable form of white especially for people who surf the web in addition to or maybe exclusively instead of photo editing. And this sweet spot is what I want and what I got on my iPad Pro 7plus and nTB

Perfection is absolutely possible...
No backlightbleeding.
2 big circles left/mid are due to camera.

Wow... if that is Apple's QC and tolerances nowadays, no more Apple laptops for me. Ridiculous!

Do you really think the panel is bad? It changes a little depending on above lighting or angle. But honestly I think it looks pretty good. I went through the Original MacBook Air panel plague LG vs Samsung years back. I lost and got the Samsung if I remember correct. I took these photos one next to the 5K and the solo is the MBP alone. What are you seeing that is noticeable bad? I have 13 more days :) The 5K looks a little better but I would expect that.

Um but this isn't a 2016? Many rMBP owners have a uniform display though it's a crapshoot too. And left looks yellow unless that's the camera doing it (possibility)

Which panel? System preferences>display>color tab>open profile, line17

LOL, it was just a joke to poke fun at the crowd that will obsess over things until they start seeing things. (And that issue is rampant with iPhone owners.) I'm was just kidding around and not directing it at the OP. Yes, you are absolutely correct, if someone has a bad screen they should definitely return it.

Yes, I think it's way too much. It could be your camera amplifying the issue, but I'd actually expect the opposite – cameras typically have hard time showing slight variations that are visible to eyes. The sole fact it's so obvious in your pictures is a bad sign and means it's not a just minor issue, but a blatant yellow hotspot in the centre.

A few points:

* Very low brightness in a very dark room will tend to make any non-uniformity look worse.
* Looking or photographing from an angle will tend to produce non-uniformity.
* It's very easy to unintentionally exaggerate non-uniformity using a camera.
* No screen is perfect. Period.

Hehe: If I see one more thread saying "I swapped my computer 5 times and it's still not absolutely perfect because I'm a obsessive-compulsive freak," I will freak! ;)

Remember, folks, we first-world types are ourselves responsible for most of our own suffering. Relax a little. If unevenness is bugging you, turn up the brightness a notch. In a week you won't ever notice it again anyway.

Those are all very solid points!

It kinda pains me to see so many cell phone photos used to determine issues as the sensors on those things are often not even giving a uniform image themselves. DSLRs are best obviously, but even a point and shoot is a better device for trying to demonstrate issues when compared to a phone.

Generally speaking, I honestly can't believe what some people settle for based on what these machines cost. If I have a screen that is warm white on one side and cool white on the other, or has a red/green tint, it goes back. As many times as is necessary.

Has anyone noticed a change in their screen since the 10.12.2 update? My screen has improved in color uniformity and brightness. It isn't perfect, but it definitely has improved unless my eyes have changed. I know your eyes can accommodate to color such as a warm screen, but my screen has a pink to blue color shift left to right and previously looked brighter in the center, but there is a lot less pink on the left now and no uneven brightness. I've been using it for 2 weeks and haven't noticed any change, but as soon as it updated last evening I noticed the screen looked better.

oh man I hope this is placebo, my nTB on 10.12.0 is fantastic as is

actually its the nature of an ips display panel. you will get some light bleed. my 13" tbmbp is spot on imho. I get a little bit of darkness in the corners, but like I said, its the nature of the beast.. ips beast. some can be more pronounced than others. my 27: ips monitor shows light bleed in the corners for black, but all the other colors are ok. looking at your pics, your screen is ok. as for your Sony, thats why I don't own led. plasma was better for black reproductions, as you don't get light bleed. now you have to go with oled to get the same results like plasma. hopefully in the future apple will go the oled route and this problem will go away. till then its a crap shoot.

I got a replacement TB 13" today.

Old screen was an A033, new screen still an A033.

The old screen was horrible in terms of a yellow patch (see two "tree patches in the middle lower of the screen), new screen is what I would consider perfect considering today's IPS technology.

Old screen:

New screen:

The camera picks up a yellow band across the width of the screen at the top and the bottom. I'm fairly certain this is simply down to viewing angle, and it is not noticeable in everyday use. The yellow patch on my old screen was immediately visible with the naked eye, so off it went to be returned.

Interestingly, even though both screens are A033, my i1 Display Pro colourimeter suggests the panels are different. The old screen had a max. brightness of 600 cd/m2 with a native white point of 6700 K, the new screen has a max brightness of 570 cd/m2 with a native white point of 6900 K (both measured in the middle of the screen). So there are significant differences even within the same panel type ("A033").

Can you post the uniformity test results from i1 Display Pro with your new screen?
