I got a replacement TB 13" today.

Old screen was an A033, new screen still an A033.

The old screen was horrible in terms of a yellow patch (see two "tree patches in the middle lower of the screen), new screen is what I would consider perfect considering today's IPS technology.

New screen:

The camera picks up a yellow band across the width of the screen at the top and the bottom. I'm fairly certain this is simply down to viewing angle, and it is not noticeable in everyday use. The yellow patch on my old screen was immediately visible with the naked eye, so off it went to be returned.

Interestingly, even though both screens are A033, my i1 Display Pro colourimeter suggests the panels are different. The old screen had a max. brightness of 600 cd/m2 with a native white point of 6700 K, the new screen has a max brightness of 570 cd/m2 with a native white point of 6900 K (both measured in the middle of the screen). So there are significant differences even within the same panel type ("A033").

Confirms what I suspected and have seen, variations from different model# may not be as relevant as panel lottery individually.

Your bottom pic looks like a keeper !

I am curious to know how far off the color profile out of the factory was. Did calibration make a big change? Also, do you see drift month to month, etc.

I have the i1 Display 2 calibrator which is no longer supported and wondering if I need to get a i1 display Pro or if the factory profiles are good enough.

Do people have different colour profiles set-up, whether generic templates or custom ones? If so, how do you find this affects things in terms of uniformity?

mine looks fine... but I took a sample (this testing pic) with my iPhone and I saw that this new screen is more... hmm.. what is the English word... prone(?) to view angles. the screen should be in the right position or otherwise you see a yellowish tint which disappears when you tilt the screen.

Realized this too.. the screen can have a pink tint while viewing from some angles and yellow tint while viewing from the other.. might be due to the anti reflective coating

Hey everyone. OP here. Just wanted to say that I finally exchanged my MBP tonight and this one is much better.

As soon as I said I was there for tint uniformity issues the Genius rep was like oh absolutely and didn't ask any questions after that. He also revealed that there was an issue with a couple of keys on his new 15" model so he totally emphasized with my situation.

Anyway, I don't think there's such a thing as a perfect display but there are some out there that definitely come close so don't give up.

awesome!

who makes replacement panel?

nice!

further demonstrates its definitely panel lottery period, haha

swap for another nTB I'm assuming?

No, I plan on keeping this one. It's a lot better than the previous A033 I had. Is there any consensus on here regarding the A033?

This is my 15" (photos taken with an actual camera, not phone). It's pretty uniform compared to some I saw here on the forums, there's just an oval warmer blotch in the lower center of the screen (marked in the second picture). Since it has no dead pixels/speaker scratches/whatever I'm not convinced I want to try my luck though.

Here we go. It's hard to notice but it's there. The center right portion of the display is slightly warmer than the left side. I immediately noticed this in the Apple store but didn't feel like dealing with it at the time. I thought maybe it wouldn't bother me once I got home and started using my new device but it just makes me mad that for $1500 the colors/tint aren't evenly distributed. Also, I apologize in advance for the potato IQ and the reflection but even with these elements the difference in screen uniformity is still pretty apparent.

For those of you who have the 2016 MBP, does your screen exhibit similar properties? Use the link below to spot any differences in color/tint.

I can confirm you observations on the uneven screen colors/hues of pink and green. I've been through a good deal of units and while I have found some with nice even colors, but I end up with dead or hot pixels, etc. I can be OCD about this at times expecting perfection on my $3k+ 15" laptop, but I've given up out of disappointment. I played the screen lottery and I'm at the end of my rope. I'm surprised Apple hasn't banned me yet lol.

The screen I have now is darker on one side than the other and I have a very small cluster of dead pixels in the bottom right portion of the screen (reference photos). You'll also notice that the center screen is more of a brighter yellow color...

If it weren't for the cross platform integration of Apple devices, customer service and a decent operating system, I'd be looking elsewhere. Overall, I think its a solid computer, but I wish Apple would up the quality control on the most important aspect of its laptops, the screens! How are you going be working photography grade images on unevenly colored screens? Anyhow...

I agree. While this issue is annoying, Apple's customer service remains excellent. They are extremely accommodating, and their no-nonsense, no-questions-asked, the-customer-is-always-right attitude is awesome.

I'm on my second machine but I plan to keep this one. It's actually similar to yours but not as warm in the center of the screen. Also, the part that appears warmer on mine has more to do with viewing angles than inconsistencies with tint uniformity. If I raise my machine so that I'm staring at the lower center part of the screen I don't really see warmer tones. The blank white screen test also reveals solid overall uniformity. For these reasons, I've decided to keep this one.

The hunt for perfection, as you alluded to, quickly becomes an exercise in futility and diminishing returns. I'm sure there are perfect displays out there but unless you stumble upon one through sheer luck and in the context of an initial purchase it's not worth the time and aggravation after that. Everyone has their own tolerances as to what's acceptable and what's not but as long as you don't have a display that exhibit obvious visual anomalies, I'd be mostly happy.

That's a perfect screen Imo. Don't swap it, you'll more than likely end up with far worse

My display have the same issue.. 1st replacement. Don't know if I should play the lottery game or replace my screen after this because there are no other issues.. Like rattling or scratches

What do you think guys at my screen. Personally I'm sensitive when it comes to this stuff and my 15" A030 screen does not have dark yellow but it is warmer on the end left side than on the right. it is really noticeable when browsing the internet especially on the top near the address bar or on white pages. But I also think there is no perfect one especially with the new macbook pro 2016 model.

Hard to say without moving around to view from different angles. The right side is darker in the photos, but that may be due to viewing angle. If it's not the viewing angle, you should be able to do better than that with a new one.

The pink/red tint in the left side would bother me, personally. Assuming that you can see that from every viewing angle, I'd probably exchange it.

I agree with xmonkey. If that pink to green tint is visible in person, I wouldn't be happy. Such is the display lottery.

Yeh as I can see it is the viewing Angle that makes the warm/cold colors. for exmple when I move my head to the right side of the screen/laptop the warm left side in my attached pictures become bluish instead of warm color. So in other word I can't see the pink/red tint in the left side from every viewing angle. I think this is the way these new display are made. I think I will try to live with it for few days and see if I can adapt to it.

Just looked at my 15" MacBook 2016 using the trees. Looks as close to perfect as I can expect. My screen is A031. My only complaint is that I wish Apple still made a 17" model. ;)

could you take a picture using your mobile to the trees photo in your screen. Just wondering how it will look compared to ours.
