Sometimes the chase is worth it. I went through several iPads until I found one with a perfect screen. It has no noticeable tint shift and is evenly lit across the entire screen. As a result of my hunt, I am extremely pleased with my iPad. Some of those iPads I went through had truly horrible screens.

What do you do with your iPad to require such "precision" in colour replication?

When I read such posts I think I am colour blind...

You very well could be...

:) yes - Dalton test... Thank you that you care!

Coming back to my question, I deduce that everyone needs a hobby - I am not judging ;)

Farewell on your Don Quixote quest for best ever screen!

I just don't care - I use it.

What does anyone do on an iPad that "requires such precision in color replication"?
No requirements here. I just find it more pleasant and less distracting to look at a screen (particularly one with a mostly white background such as Macrumors) with an even white background rather than one with uneven or unusual color shifts. Some people don't see this and you may be one of them. Not color blind, but poor color discrimination. Some people see it and just don't care.

I fully agree. That's why I'm trying to cool you guys off. So you know that not everyone is so sensitive. It might be helpful for someone.
OCD aside - I am sure though that I will never exchange iPad multiple times just to get the proper shade of white (and gray). I just don't want to waste my time. I'd rather go out for a run or go to see a movie with my friends.

Jealous. Truly. Since it does amount to a colossal amount of wasted time. But I don't think anyone even with major OCD or anal retentive ness will tell you they enjoy the process of swapping and going to the store.

They just don't wanna stare at a poopy screen. And that's what they enjoy.

When I'm in swap hell of course I'd rather smell the roses and enjoy life. But with a good unit too

I finally got my replacement MBP 15" WTB and the screen is PERFECT!
Excellent uniformity throughout. The new panel is A031.
I can confirm that the uneven uniformity exists even on A031 panels. Got one that wasn't uniform, and another A031 that's much mor uniform.

Actually screen isn't perfect. Still warmer on bottom than the top.
But in my experience, this is as good as an Apple display gets so I'm keeping this one :)

Here we go. It's hard to notice but it's there. The center right portion of the display is slightly warmer than the left side. I immediately noticed this in the Apple store but didn't feel like dealing with it at the time. I thought maybe it wouldn't bother me once I got home and started using my new device but it just makes me mad that for $1500 the colors/tint aren't evenly distributed. Also, I apologize in advance for the potato IQ and the reflection but even with these elements the difference in screen uniformity is still pretty apparent.

For those of you who have the 2016 MBP, does your screen exhibit similar properties? Use the link below to spot any differences in color/tint.

Hi dick

I'm usually not one to notice these things TOO much but on yours I can. Sorry you're experiencing some trouble with your screen.

Maybe you can return it or something?

I got a good screen but it took some trial and error.

Best of luck!

When the period of exchange was over for me I noticed I'm satisfied enough with the screen I have. And I still use my own color profile with less of yellow.
But when I finally visited the other store with test unit I noticed it was the perfect screen on it. Totally white. Felt a bit envy. But then just let it go. The space bar key wasn't that good.

So I guess it would really take too much time to exchange looking for the perfect one. I stopped on one exchange coz of rattling sound and it took me 21 days.

I exchanged the first two I bought (15") because of uneven tints. I had opened both in the store and didn't notice this until I got them home. I think it is very hard to evaluate screens in the Apple stores because of the bright overhead lighting. The screens in the store always look good to me but they are running on the highest brightness setting all day and are under very bright lights. My 3rd try has a screen I am happy with but has a slight pink on the left to blue on the right tint that I only notice if looking for it. I suspect that the 2016 models all have this to some degree. My computer is perfect otherwise and I love it.

There comes a point when you just have to stop chasing the perfect Apple.
If you have a screen that you're relatively happy with then I'll call that a win.
Their quality control has drastically slipped and it seems now they're just out to make lots of $$$ like everyone else.
This is my second 15" TB, and whilst the screen isn't perfect , it's good enough, and miles better than my first which was really pink all across the bottom of display.
This one I have still has issues, and one of the feet on the bottom is really wobbly.
I think this might be the last Apple I own unless they seriously up their QC.

Yes, unfortunately you will never find a perfect screen. You just have to settle for one that isn't distracting to you.
I went through 3 iMacs, 3 MBP 15" and 2 iPhone 7s last year because each one had a terrible screen out of the box. I gave up and decided I'd try my luck on the 15" TB.
First one I bought had the worst screen I'd ever seen on any computer! Literally a 3" pink tint all across the bottom, swapped it out and finally after 9 Apple device returns got one with a screen I can enjoy looking at.
Apple's quality control has got terribly bad.

Yup to all above me. My iphone has some tint shift, the two best screens we have in our house are the two least techy screens on our two old Airs, but every retina or HD screen we have has shift. Even my projector, dell ultrasharp, and ipad all have some sort of shift, corner shadowing etc...

I haven't seen any iPhone 7s that aren't warmer at the bottom, I think that's pretty normal. My first one had a bright white splodge on screen, a cluster of bright pixels. And my second had 2 dead pixels.
You're right about all recent display tech being uneven or tinted.
It seems all anyone cares about these days is resolution, which is a pity. On a laptop 1080p is more than enough. Give me an even and accurately coloured display over 4k any day!

Thanks all for sharing your experience with Apple. They definitely should think up something with the screen. Though many IPS screen devices have the same issue.
After this thing with MacBook Pro 2016 I noticed yellow tint around the screen of my iPhone 5 I'm using now (like a frame on the left, right side and the top of the screen). Before I never noticed it or maybe I didn't pay attention.
Or maybe it became worse with the years of using?

One of my other brand smart tv screen is also uneven, when I opened menu. And on the other one same brand which is a bit later than the first one the maker made a smart decision - the background of menu is black. So it's even. And no chance to find white uneven screen. Though it's clear it's not that important on tv screen.

UPDDATE

Flew in to California for a couple of days and went to Apple Store.

Despite a dent on the screen cover, they have replaced my MacBook for a new one right away.
No problem that it was purchased in Europe at a Retailer - not Apple Store.

I was positively shocked by AAPL customer care here.

Guys,
I've noticed somehow that I have a small dent on my MBP 15".

As I have OCD, I have started checking for problems..
Found small backlight bleed..

Is this normal, or could I possibly go to Apple with this issue.
Only visible when 100% brightness and black screen.

Right down corner.

Well this was a test I did, to see what other viewers see. The picture above I Auto selected Black and White adjustment, not color, not light. And sure it looks pretty good. But why can I select black and white Auto for the entire picture and it fixes it versus just trying to fix one side. If it is uniformity then why selecting Black and White fixes it all? Is it uniformity or Black and White?

Below is Original Picture and then the picture with Auto select Black and White in Apple Photos

Yeah I'm still trying to "train" myself into not noticing it as much. And there's also the urban myth about retina screen uniformity improving over time after cumulative usage (something about glue?).
My last retina 15 MBP (early 2013) had a display replacement due to stain on the surface last year. All display was producing at LG, and the new one had darker right side first time. Half year later I noticed that the brightness difference is much lower then. Urban myth or not... :) I made a photo about that, I am searching now :-D. I could compare and show the proof about the change If I found the photo.
Now I changed my MBP and the 2016 model has worse uniformity compered 2013 model. I checked two Apple resellers and all 15tbMBP have this phenomenon. I use it two weeks ago and there are two explanation: my eyes accept better the difference or the display status continuously goes toward better uniformity :-DDDDDD
