$1,000,000,000. Because my iPhone4 made me miss a call from a rich Nigerian prince that offered me that much.

Haha my iPhone4 didn't drop that call. I already paid them $20,000 to make all the arrangements and transfers. Soon I'll be a millionaire.

Posts like these make me crazy! How can you sit there and tell the unhappy people to suck it up or return it? It seems that you don't really have the problems that I have with the iPhone 4 from living in a relatively bad signal area. GREAT, the bumper alleviates the problem a little bit. That doesn't change the fact that Apple sold me BROKEN HARDWARE. Yes, I can absolutely return the phone if I want, but that will be wasting HUNDREDS of dollars I've spent in the iTunes store on apps. How hard is it for a multi billion dollar company to make a phone that works?! I know that some of you feel a personal connection to Apple and defend them no matter what they do. Don't get me wrong, they are right most of the time, but they really messed up with this one. The only way I'd be happy about this situation is if they fixed my hardware.

+1.

All I want is a fix to the proximity sensor issues. That's all I want.

Everyone with dropped calls, I ask you to take your phone to the Apple Store to see how many dropped calls there have been for your phone. The phone keeps a log of call failures and their cause.

If they turn out to be signal errors, make them give you a replacement. If they turn out to be network errors, call ATT and threaten to leave. If nothing pops up, then wait in line for the goddamn proximity sensor fix.

I bet you money there will be a lot fewer people complaining about dropped calls after that update shows up. (—call it a hunch.)

Why keep the phone if it doesn't work ? Complaining is not going to fix it. Why stay with the iPhone 4, if you have already invested a lot of money into the iTunes app store, then go back to the 3gs for now and wait for a revision or two of the iPhone 4 to go thru, or better yet, wait for iPhone 5 in 10 months.

Besides, if you are in a relatively bad signal area, do you really think you are going to be able to get an iphone or any other AT&T phone that works great in your area ?

If you hold the phone in a way that you know will drop your call, then your call drops, and then you are upset

You know, that's exactly what I think every time I hear people complain about how the phone supposedly drop calls constantly or loses data when they grip it. I don't personally use my phone naked, but before I got a case it took me about 2 minutes to figure out how to slightly adjust the way I hold it so that it's not a problem. Now while it is a tiny bit annoying, it really isn't that big of a deal.

So the small percentage of people who want to go naked just need to slightly alter the way they hold it. If that's too big of a hassle for you then return it. I personally can't imagine using this beautiful piece of tech art without a case. I would be way too fearful of dropping it. Besides, I don't need to show it off to impress people.

You know the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. :D

Although I was disappointed in Apple's initial response, I do have to say that I much happier they came out and addressed it. I do wish going forward they would not wait until there is a media sh*tstorm to do so.

I also do not understand people being pissed or bent out of shape after the press conference. Mostly everyone wanted free bumpers and now Apple is offering free cases or bumpers.

The fact is that the iPhone 4 is more susceptible to signal loss than other phones. Either accept that fact and get a free bumper or return the phone, and then use another phone or try another iPhone 4.

Then you are going to be one unhappy person.

How do you think apple should fix the problem the way that you want them to?

99% of the people are happy with a case on their phone and usually have them because it offers more protection.

Yes Apple messed up by having the antenna on the outside but you need a Reality Check.

It would cost Billions to replace the current phone with a new design not to mention that it would take at least 6 more months to roll out a new design (Factory Changes, Testing, FCC Licensing, etc.) and what are they suppose to do during those 6 months?

Putting a simple case on their product fixes the issues of having a bare antenna on the outside of the phone and guess what, most people are happy with this.

It makes no sense for Apple to spend billions of dollars to keep 1% of their users "happy". They are trying to make you content though by offering you a free case and even returning the phone for a full refund.

Why not return it and go back to your 3G(S) so you can use your "hundreds of dollars" worth of apps and wait for the next update that you will be might be satisfied with, the iPhone 4.

I agree.

People are taking this thing way to personal. They are only going to be happy if Steve Jobs comes out on the stage on his knees begging forgiveness. To them it does not matter if they get free cases/bumpers or not, a lot of people are unhappy because of how the message was delivered.

I doubt the iPhone 4 is/was the sole reason for their unhappiness. I would imagine the inability to get laid ranks much higher.

It reminds me of the grumpy old lady on The Simpson's chiding the grocery bagger: "I want it all in one bag AND it has to be light, young man" :)

Life's too short to be pissed at everything.

I wanted

A - a hardware solution to have the iPhone 4 perform similarly to my 3GS

B - an acknowledgment that the iPhone 4 doesn't perform as well as the 3GS in some situations.

We got: The iPhone 4 is just like every other phone, but better. Here's a case to solve the problem you think you have.

The situation is still that apple focuses on bars and not call quality. Hopefully this is only Apple holding the line, and behind the scenes they're addressing the problems.

My problem is i sold my 3gs on the day i got the IP4,if i return the IP4 i will be left with no phone now.Buying another isn't an option as the money went elsewhere, so what do i do ?

1) return the phone disrupt my life all over again because of a bloody phone ?

2) put up shut up and never buy an iphone again ?

For me its number 2 as i personally think its disgusting the way apple has dealt with this problem(they knew alright). From memory of the days of me having an analogue mobile cannot remember such a monstrous screw up,but im sure some phone geeks can and i expect they will be listed in a reply, but im talking from my personal experience

sorry to say but, apple you have 18months.

... so what do i do ?

....

I hear ya. I've been there myself years ago. (Sprint. Upgraded from dumb-phone to WinMo 'smart' phone. Hated 'smart-phone' after a few months - but it would've been too disrupting for my family who'd all converted to Sprint for unlimited in-group calling minutes)

Blame the carriers: They do everything to lock you in.

They're are some real morons in this thread. Are you ********** kidding me?
Mostly everyone here pre ordered their iphone and was excited to have the device in hand. Just to find out there are some major flaws. Totally unbecoming of apple and at&t.

You say suck it up and return it? Not ONE person in here wants to return their phone. Me personally, I love my ip4 and I would hate to see it go. AT&T coverage in my area is excellent, yet I NEVER have more than 3 bars.. ANYWHERE in the city. I've been using my case from day 1 so get out of here with that nonsensical talk.. Some of you people are content with your poor coverage.. That's fine. I just want a REAL fix or at least an ETA on a patch that does more than blame the issue's on the network provider. I'm not complaining here..just want to get what I paid for.

I think a lot of people are like me. They love their iphone 4 and wanted to see what Apple “solution” was to this problem. Offering a free bumper does not fix this issue, we know this. I still drop calls and data with the bumper. I was hoping for Apple to say something like “We know this is a problem and we are working on it. We released a software patch to start addressing this issue and for those who are still having problems we will allow you to send in your phone for a fix. We know there is a small amount of users that have this problem but we will take care of you.” However what we got was, “…well this is a problem and we are not going to really fix it. We heard bumpers help somewhat so we will just give you one of those for free.” I understand there are other phones and I might start looking those but for now I LOVE my iphone thus the reason I bought it. However, I still think Apple should stand up and fix this problem. No other phone drops calls and data simply by touching the side maybe doing the “death grip” sure but not by touching. In reality they rushed the phone and got burned.

Your desire is for a product that simply isn't on the market.

What I would do is just put a bumper on your phone. This fixes the antenna problem and should make your Ip4 behave the same as your 3Gs. I would much rather have a ip4 with a bumper and all the extra features than a naked 3gs.

Seriously? I want Jobs to shut his mouth. I'm tired of being told to "think different" by "the man" himself. I'm tired of being told how I can use my own equipment. I'm tired of being told how "it just works". I'm tired of his continuous attempts to make jailbreaking an arrestable crime. For that matter, I'm tired of the constant attempts to stop jailbreaking altogether. I'm tired of the smug, pretentious, disconnected attitude and demeanor. If he can just make his stuff, keep his mouth shut and his attitude to himself, I'll be perfectly content. They're phones and computers, it's not that important.

yep, thats what im doing, grinning and bearing it. I do have to say every phone and im being straight here every phone iv'e had has never had a case on, unless im going climbing or outdoor pursuits i keep it good(not in a freaky way) i just look after my stuff iv'e paid for

I tell you all one thing, i won't be jumping into the iphone 4s/5 like i did with previous apple products.

A 600 dollar device unsubsidized drops calls when you touch the left side of the phone is a HUGE problem. I’m glad your phone works great. However, for those like me whose phone had this flaw Apple should step up and fix it. A bumper is NOT a fix it’s a temporary band aid if that.

If you are "in fact" losing calls, and if a bumper doesn't correct this then there is no fix. You are one of the unlucky few whose body electrolyte composition or cell tower service does not play well with the iPhone 4. They did step up and offer you a free case and they will step up and offer you your money back. There is no fix that will satisfy you. Sorry.

I want Steve to man up and say. "If you don't like it return it, we aren't giving you anything. If you don't like it there are plenty of smartphone choices out there"

Funny thing is they would still out sale any other single smart phone on the planet, because in the end it's still the best.

Seriously? I want Jobs to shut his mouth...

Like you, he's entitled to say whatever he wants. (That said, nobody's being forced to agree with it.)

Just ignore whatever you don't like and reassess your options on that basis. Don't take it all to heart and get stressed. Not worth it.

I want them to make minor changes to the design of the antenna. Holding the phone a certain way or being required to use an aftermarket accessory is not a satisfactory solution in my opinion.
