Wow a lot of people here wanting their MB to be a CE.
When the new MBP's came out I rang apple the day after to try and blag an upgrade or return it, was 55 days old but they were extremely understanding and wanted to help but their was nothing they could do... They convinced me that its awesome again :D Love my laptop
Good! Join the club!

Yeah, I made it light on purpose. I didn't want to upset the owners of the new 13" MacBook Pro too much. ;)

So I guess this is another way to view the difference between the UMB and the MBP 13"... I have earlier stated that it's far better to have a great MB than a mediocre MBP, but now, it became even more obvious that the latter is merely a prototype (of its kind, that is) whilst the former is the best MB there has ever been. This applies to the construction as well as to its specs - not to forget the aesthetics.

And for those who kick themselves because they bought the MBP 13": Congratulations on having purchased the cheapest MBP ever produced by Apple. You got what you paid for - how about an Acer Aspire next time?

Guys, just out of interest, the original UMB will not actually be worth anymore than the new 13" MBP will they?!

Just asking because I would like the upgrade haha, but cannot justify the price. Do any of you honestly feel these will demand a premium in the future over the MBP at all, or is this more an 'in jest' thread?

Of course they will demand a premium. They're the best MBs ever made. The same can for sure not be said about the new 13" MBP. As the elitist I am, I see an eventual change from UMB to MBP 13 as a downgrade which should be compensated, rather than paid for.

Wow, I never thought of a computer I bought in February as obsolete. I am worried about battery replacement later in it's life. I hope they develop a replacement based on the new technology. At least my Collector's Edition MacBook has the faster SATA interface!

If anybody heard anything, it was probably me retreating from these now pretty hostile grounds.

Sssshh!

Still am rather bemused that my UMB bought in February is now out dated, I guess having had various ipods etc I should have expected this from apple though.

When I bought the computer I did think it should have been called a MBP originally but guessed the dedicated chipset was the main difference and I do feel that Apple have used this move more as a marketing gimmick than anything else - oh well, we live and learn!

What do you mean it's out-dated? There hasn't been released any better MBs yet.

It's like buying a new car. As you drive off the lot you see the new models coming onto the lot and yours is yesterday's news. :p

What will your thoughts be when Apple addresses the SATA interface on the uMBPs with a simple software upgrade?

Will all you uMB CE fan club people still love your computer?? JK.

Anyways, they're all great machines.

My new wall paper.

Disclosure: I own one.
