I actually bought my 'CE' :)p) 2.4 MacBook yesterday at a lowered price. Sure, I could have gotten the lower-spec 13" MBP @ the same price but I don't need any of the new stuff.
I would have gotten an iPod touch (back to school) though. Erm... I don't have the money to pay up-front for the iPod anyways :p

I'm still keeping my 15" early 08 MBP, so my username is still justified :D

Obviously the unibody MacBook is just a MacBook Pro in the guise of a lesser model, so the username is justified regardless. Alternatively you could say that the unibody MacBook is the model that aspired to greatness, but flopped about instead, in which case your username should be changed to "FailBook Pro" or something along that line.

So I guess this is another way to view the difference between the UMB and the MBP 13"... I have earlier stated that it's far better to have a great MB than a mediocre MBP, but now, it became even more obvious that the latter is merely a prototype (of its kind, that is) whilst the former is the best MB there has ever been. This applies to the construction as well as to its specs - not to forget the aesthetics.

And for those who kick themselves because they bought the MBP 13": Congratulations on having purchased the cheapest MBP ever produced by Apple. You got what you paid for - how about an Acer Aspire next time?

yeah, how about an Acer Aspire next time? ;):p

I'm gonna have to change my sig now...

Jealous of the new specs!

I bought the unibody macbook less than 3 months ago and now for the same price, i can get a better screen, firewire (doesn't really bother me as i dont use it), SD card slot, faster processor, and more ram! This has been bugging me non stop.

Who cares. I don't use any of those features, nor do I want 8GB of ram. My screen looks beautiful, and I like my removable battery. :p

Not the greatest 'shopping job, but it makes a point :)

Welcome to the world of IT. At least you're not in the position of those-who-should-have-known-better, also known as the people who bought their MacBooks right before WWDC. The sooner you get over it the sooner you'll realize that you can never win with an technologically oriented purchase. It's all about how to lose "less-badly."

I have also the Mac Collector's Edition and I am completely satisfied to my this edition because i recently upgrade it and i have no problem with it its battery timing and processing speed is amazing i have not need to any other one.

Oh yeah, that's also why I bought an older model. I pay less and next time there's an update I won't care, while many many people with the 13" MBP will be upset about how there's an update :)

Should have known better than what?? Of course, now we know that they would have gotten a discount or something if they had bought their UMBs right after the WWDC. But on the other hand, they shouldn't have risked the sell-out of a great MB - which actually was likely to happen when the crappy features of the 13" MBP had been announced with the statement implying that all forthcoming models of MB will look like plastic toys again.

Just thought Id share something

*BEGINS RANT*So one day last week myself and a few friends were having dinner and I was telling one of them (a fellow limited edition owner) about the new macbook pro update etc and a different friend replied "and that's why I'd never buy mac, you pay a bomb for a computer which without fail gets updated in 12 months"! To this myself and my fellow enthusiast were like "Eh........." but then I decided to myself, that while the MB has been updated I still have a computer which is fast, beautiful and does exactly what I want and need it to do. It filled those needs when it was first bought and it will continue to do so.

I like so many others have always loved my uMB and that hasn't changed a bit since 8/6/2009 (Im Irish thats how we write it here :p). I look forward to enjoying my kick ass computer for a long time to come!

*ENDS RANT*

The day of WWDC I was severely pissed. My macbook being less than 1 week old it was sort of a kick in the pants with a frozen moccasin.
This being my first mac(book) I did not pay attention to, nor knew about any upcoming events so it was not my fault.
I was told by Apple to return it and get a new MBP. This would however render me macless for 1-3 weeks (depends how long it takes to get the new ones to Middle of Nowhere, Canada) This was not acceptable! How could I go back to Winders for that long? It couldnt be done!
I have since grown to love my uMB even more. I am very glad I kept "Allison" She is plenty good enough for what we do together.

yea my friend just bought the macbook a day before the 14 day take back guarantee. haha, he spent 2300 on a unibody macbook and 4 gigs of apple ram. I didnt want to tell him, but you can get a refurbished Macbook Pro 15' screen, 4 gigs of ra,, 512mb 9600gt, and 320gb hdd. haha that really sucks.

I too am a member of the Club!!! I remember stressing whether or not to buy the 2.4 the week before WWDC or just wait for a bit. I couldn't wait any longer so I went ahead and got a 2.4. Then I learned what I would have been waiting for. Not that big of a deal. I got a great screen in my MacBook and I can add more RAM and HD space much cheaper on my own. The processor bump is negligible AND I'll be able to upgrade to SL which will make everything even snappier for 30 bucks. (right? lol)

Don't want an SD card reader. Don't really need Firewire. Battery is replaceable in my MacBook as opposed to the new ones. (as long as i can find them....which I won't worry too much about) oh, and 5 hrs is plenty.

I'm happy with my 2.4 uMB that I bought in late March. It's got the updated/nicer screens and I don't really care for firewire, SD would've been ok. But, I'm more of a CF user since I own a Canon 40D DSLR.

I plan on keeping it for awhile and upgrading the hard drive when 256GB or 500GB SSD drives come down in price. Until then, I'm enjoying my Macbook CE to the fullest!

Haha collectors edition macbook, spose its true.

I was quite pissed when i popped on apple store one day and found what they had done...

You can never keep up with apple.
