I wonder about that M1X Mac mini...

Anyhow, here are my MacBook Pro price predictions, vs. the existing M1 models:

$999 - 13" MacBook Air 256 GB M1 8 GB
$1249 - 13" MacBook Air 512 GB M1 8 GB

$1299 - 13" MacBook Pro 256 GB M1 8 GB
$1499 - 13" MacBook Pro 512 GB M1 8 GB

$1799 - 14" MacBook Pro 512 GB M1X 16 GB
$2199 - 14" MacBook Pro 1 TB M1X 16 GB

$2399 - 16" MacBook Pro 512 GB M1X 16 GB
$2799 - 16" MacBook Pro 1 TB M1X 16 GB

I'm quite confused by that reference to the MacBook Air - ie:

"The 2021 MacBook Air models will be a throwback to the pre-2016 MacBook Pro designs, with Apple undoing many of the changes that we're introduced with the 2016 revamp"

Shouldn't that be "The 2021 MacBook Pro models...."?

I may be in the minority here, but I hope that MagSafe does not make a return. As much as I liked MagSafe, I much prefer the USB type C charging port over any proprietary ditto.
I already busted up a PD thunderbolt cable by having my MacBook fall off my table. I look forward to a new iteration of MagSafe.

How do the 16/32 graphics core SKUs fit into this, 16 for the 14" and 32 for the 16" to help justify the continuing huge price gap between the two sizes?

Hope we finally get new Airpods. Been holding on to my lighting earpods for months and months waiting for 3rd gen Airpods to release (and Airpods Pro aren‘t an option for me).

I agree. The thing about MagSafe is that it was a great thing to have when you HAD to have your computer plugged in for any kind of work, since battery life was such crap back in the day. You went to a Starbucks to work, for example, and you had to find a seat near a wall outlet, just so you could charge the MBP when you needed, and MagSafe provided protection from people tripping over your charging cord.

Today with the M1’s and I assume M1X or M2 chips, battery life can be sufficiently long to allow you to charge before you leave in the morning, then re-charge when you’re back at night. And there are already options for USB-C MagSafe-like plugs that provide a similar experience, if you have to have that breakaway cord option.

Wait... I thought the new Macbook Air wasn't coming until next year... and the 14" and 16" MB Pro to be released now.

I just bought an M1 Macbook Air two days ago. I'm not upset though... I didn't like those rumored pastel-colored MBA renders with the white keyboard and bezels anyway...

:p

I'm guessing extra cost to upgrade GPU on 16" to 32 cores. Not convinced the 14" will get that option. Similarly, even if the 16" gets the options of 64 GB RAM and 8 TB SSD, I'm not convinced they will be available on the 14". I'm guessing the 14" will max out at 32 GB RAM and 4 TB SSD.

It's kind of funny seeing Apple undo a bunch of their "innovations": Butterfly keyboard, USB-C charging, TouchBar, lack of HDMI, lack of SD card slot... That's quite a long list of mistakes there! Their new "features" are merely a return to how it was before. I'm sure M1X will be fast but the other things should not really be mentioned as features. Those were all present in the original Retinas.

I'm more curious about the discreet GPU options, will nVidia return? We've yet to see an M series processor with a discreet GPU.

This is why I firmly believe that they will once again backtrack with the horrendous Safari redesign and why I'm not upgrading to any release of iOS 15 on my iPhone X. I firmly believe they will backtrack when iOS 16 beta 1 comes out next June...

Damn....can't believe Apple broke with tradition and decided to schedule a Monday event at the very last minute! Talk about timing...It's not even 10 am either, usually when they release this sort of news...
I think they originally planned the 19th but Google took that spot. They don’t want share the spotlight and overburden the journalists though the journalists now have a long 48 hours. But hey, I bet Apple’s snarky comment would be Google purposefully leaked the Pixel 6 so it’s their fault everyone is more hyped for an Apple Event.

my hope is they break past the 16GB ram to 32 or even (unlikely) 64.

while i'll be keeping my air, i like these events because i think they give us a better idea of where the desktop machines are headed. If mobile / imac chips do this, then desktops should be able to do that.... that sort of thinking.
