So after finding this thread last week, I decided to give it a try. I did things a little differently, but got the same results. I got the HTC mogul for $15 from CL and then then I went to Boost Mobile.com to activate it (it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be, but it was a process). This part cost me $10. My big hurdle was trying to get the htc wifirouter app to work on the mogul. I just couldn't do it. I decided to just go ahead and get wmwifirouter instead and now I've got a portable wifirouter! It's working great!! I'm on the free trial now, but I will probably buy it for $30 if it continues to work. So in total I will spend $55 (one time only) for the start up process of unlimited 3G tethering plus .35 cents per day for the data service. Thanks OP!

I didn't know you can active Sprint phones on Boost. Are there only certain HTC phones capable of doing this? I'm definitely interested.

MiFi on Boost

Oh you can buy a novatel mifi from here http://www.android2boost.com/#!store its a little expensive though
NOTE: its says 3g/4g but only 3g will work when its on boost

I am intrigued by the novatel mifi approach. Do you have to convert it to Boost or will it work out of the box on Boost mobile? Does it have to be a Mifi from android2boost.com or will a Sprint 2200 Mifi work? Has anyone tried this?

TIA

The speed is not bad. It lags a bit when you turn it on, but give it 1-2 minutes on my ipad and it goes up to about 4 mbps download and I even saw it get to 6 mbps. I"m happy with it.

Not that isn't a good deal, but for the hassle, I'll just pay the $20 bucks to ATT and have 4gigs of tethering on my iPhone, simply easily no work a rounds, no extra phone to charge and deal with.

I'd do that too but I currently have unlimited data on my iPhone. I'm not about to throw that away and pay 45 a month for 4 GBs when I can get unlimited from Boost (tethering) and AT&T (iPhone) for 40 a month. While it won't be as easy to setup, I feel like I'm coming ahead in the long run. It won't be that big of a hassle to have a second phone on hand for tethering.

If AT&T ever pulls unlimited data from me, tethering through AT&T will be the first thing I do. Until then, I won't be tethering w/ AT&T.

I am thinking of doing this with my Touch Pro 2. Only problem, I need to get the newton rings out from it. Not sure if there's DIY procedure for it.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_8 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8E401 Safari/6533.18.5)

Just wanted to add another confirmation that this works flawlessly on a treo pro. In my area I got about 1.5 down and .75 up which is about 50% better than my VZW iPhone.

i would assume that a sprint MIFI would be usable here...does anyone agree or disagree...if you disagree...why?

How is the Robostars getting them onto Boost if they need flashed? I'm not seeing Mifis on Boost's website, so where are they getting the firmware to put on them? Also I'm seeing the Mifis going for like $40 with supposed clean ESNs on eBay right now, if the flashing software is out there online somewhere, I'd rather pocket the difference and do the flash myself.

Here is a verizon (Novatel Wireless MiFi 2200) for 35.00 shipped. Could it be used on the T-mobile service I could use it there for less than verizon. T-mobile payg can be had for 1.49/day unlimited data (throttled?) only on days you need it.

Not as good as 10.00 a month but I would rather use a mifi

No, it can't. Verizon = CDMA, T-Mobile = GSM. There are GSM MiFi units that may be able to be used, though.

I agree...I am not interested in a phone. Just need a hub.
I have looked but cannot find anything on flashing yet there are 2 places that appear to be able to do this.

Whats the smallest sprint phone I can use for this purpose. Again, I am not interested in the phone services just web.

I used to be with Sprint; the last phone I had was the Touch Diamond (HTC). It's about 4" tall, 2" wide & a half inch thick. And it's light; weight 4oz.

I was able to get the phone activated on boost. I don't know if it's the smallest phone but I like it. Works perfectly.
