It takes about 1 yr for the phone to be eligible for unlocking. So all the iPhone 6 and 6+ should be able to unlock now. But 6s and 6s+ will not be unlockable yet. You can try a 3rd party site if you need them unlocked.

What do you mean when you say that it takes about 1 year for the phone to be eligible? According to AT&T, eligibility requires that "all the device’s service commitments and installment plans are completed, and all early termination fees are paid in full." That depends on the plan you're on. For example, my Next 12 plan is up in September. Every time I've submitted an unlock request online, I've received a response almost immediately saying that my phone isn't eligible.

I believe that some people are getting AT&T to unlock phones that aren't supposed to be eligible according to AT&T's own rules, but I don't understand what they're doing differently.

I've unlocked all my 2 yr contract phones by the 1 yr mark of service even tho the terms weren't yet fulfilled.

I tried again this morning and got a rapid reply via email saying that my phone isn't eligible. I'd say that it's because I'm on the Next plan, but I think that other people on Next have been successful. Makes no sense. But thanks for the reply.

Would anyone be willing to help me unlock by using your AT&T account with my IMEI number?

I purchased an iPhone 6 on eBay and do not have AT&T service myself- I was hoping to use with another carrier. When I use the "non-AT&T Mobility Customer" option, I get denied instantly every time.

I'm hoping that someone with an AT&T account would be able to plug in my IMEI with one of their phone numbers to trigger the unlock. Any takers?

I am on Next program and just for ***** and giggles I tried several times to unlock. Was rejected each time so far because I still owe money on Next. I suspect that like with any automatic system, sometimes the check may malfunction and a flag may be incorrectly set allowing for the unlock to occur. We all know that all software always work perfectly.......right.

So some people got lucky and were unlocked early. Course nothing says that AT&T couldn't relock if they discover their error. I suspect AT&T is rather pissed that fraud and illegal access was perpetrated and allowed by some of it's employees unlocking for third parties that paid these former employees under the table. If I was manager at AT&T I would be looking much closer at unlocks now.

For those that want unlocked phones, buy them outright or use apple's payment plan. As for anyone buying a second hand phone on eBay or Craigslist, etc. well you get what you pay for. You may have a bigger problem than unlocked phone. If the seller, or if stolen, the robbed person stops paying or gets IMEI number blocked, you will have an expensive brick. These are the chances you take buying second hand. No way I would buy a used phone from someone I didn't know.

I've bought my iPhones on 2 yrs contracts and I've always been able to unlock the iPhones around the 1 year mark. Malfunction? maybe, but it's been like clockwork ever since they started unlocking iPhones.

I've never heard of anything in the system that allows carriers to relock iPhones.

As for buying an iPhone used, Craigslist is fairly safe: meet up in person, examine iPhone, confirm it's unlocked, and ya you are good to go. Most of the people getting scammed are buying the iPhone on eBay or other online websites. Unless someone is getting a current gen iPhone, I don't think it makes sense to buy new over used.

Buying via CL is not as easy as it seems! You can confirm the unlock with your sim, but you should also confirm the phone is not blacklisted and that it does not have icloud activation lock (that can be told on the spot when you put your sim card in)

If anyone wants to buy on CL just make sure to have another internet enabled device with them to check the IMEI for issues.

I have two 6+ phones on my account with the contract up in Sept. 2016 and they only approved the unlock request for one of them.

I must have missed something.

If anyone with an AT&T account is able to help, your assistance would be appreciated. Please feel free to send me a PM.

Yeah you missed something. How do you imagine someone with an AT&T account can request an unlock for a phone not on their account?

I think you can unlock any AT&T phone with your account.

Use a different email address. The address you are using may have been used with AT&T services, even non-phone services, in the past.
It worked but got a error saying there was wrong info when I first tried after buying my phone using the same email I used that one to unlock several phones but I will try another since I keep getting the same network error after a week on different computers

No luck here. 6s+ got in December off of fleabay. Still on NEXT contract. Paid 50 bucks at a local shop. Incidentally, the account is 700+ past due. Found out by sticking the SIM card in an old phone and checking AT&T services.

Don't buy fleabay, but at least there is 180 day buyer protection with PP.

Were you able to solve the problem, I keep getting the error that " Error:We’re sorry, but we’re having technical difficulties with our network at the moment. Please try again later. If this problem persists, try clearing the cache and cookies from your device. Questions? Call us at 800.331.0500, or dial 611 from your AT&T wireless phone. (errorCode.ULS3001)"
no matter what emails I use...

I have an att iphone 5 that I bought on release. This past September I brought it to the apple store because the power button wasn't working and they repaired it with the free repair program because it was a known defect. However after receiving it back it had further issues so they ended up swapping it out in store with a brand new iphone 5. My question is will att unlock this new iphone 5 for me or because it has a different imei than the one I bought 3 years ago will they not recognize it as eligible or even linked to my att account?

Update: Ended up just having to call up ATT. They processed the request and got my phone unlocked.

I was messing around with the unlock website from AT&T and entered my iPhone 6+ into it to get it unlocked. I knew it would be rejected because I haven't finished my 2 year contract.

But it actually went through and I got the confirmation email!! :D:D

My question is, do I have to do the restore right away or can I wait a few months till when I upgrade to the iPhone 7 (whenever it comes out)???

I've never had to restore after an unlock request went through. By the way, AT&T has been VERY generous with their unlock requests. I am not at all surprised that they approved yours.

I wonder how generosity enters into the equation. I've submitted multiple unlock requests for my iPhone 6 Plus under AT&T's Next 12 contract, and they've all been denied within a minute or two. I find it hard to believe that a human capable of exercising discretion in whether to grant the request is actually reviewing these.

I had no problems unlocking two iPhone 6 that I purchased under contract from Apple on release day in 2014. I think I submitted the requests around 3-4 months into contract. Since contract phones had to buy purchased from AT&T this year, I had to buy the 6s directly from them, and I'm also getting denied immediately after submitting the request. My theory is that if you buy from AT&T, they might keep better records of which devices actually qualify or not.

For those who have been successful getting your unlock requests approved by AT&T, where did you buy your device from?
