I had no problems unlocking two iPhone 6 that I purchased under contract from Apple on release day in 2014. I think I submitted the requests around 3-4 months into contract. Since contract phones had to buy purchased from AT&T this year, I had to buy the 6s directly from them, and I'm also getting denied immediately after submitting the request. My theory is that if you buy from AT&T, they might keep better records of which devices actually qualify or not.

For those who have been successful getting your unlock requests approved by AT&T, where did you buy your device from?

When I bought my i6 from AT&T, they unlocked it 5 days later. Was a 2 year contract at the time.

I get denied within minutes.
My other 2 iPhones still under contract got unlocked many months ago. This last one I tried 83 times with no luck:)
Same here, my contract is up in October, but ATT won't unlock the phones. I'm not overly worked up over it. I was going to jump ship to VZW, but the promotions they were offering were not enough to get me to pull the trigger. Perhaps when my contract is up, or closer to being up.

Tmobile has a great promo this month.
I'm leaving AT&T in a few days:)

I looked at T-Mo but from my research it didn't seem like a good fit for our needs. I almost pulled the trigger on it last summer but didn't. I want decent coverage for NH where I travel and camp - particularly near Mount Washington and the North Conway location. ATT is barely decent in North Conway and non-existant near Mt. Washington, where is VZW has much better coverage. From what I've researched, T-Mo is not that good up there, worse then ATT.

Yeah that nh area is tough with coverage.
If you were closer to the Boston area near the 93-95 interstate split you'd be golden.
Gotta stick with what works best. A good deal price wise is not that great if it doesn't work in your local area.

Oh, I'm in boston. I work there, and I live right next door, but we find ourselves in NH quite often. VZW seems to offer the best coverage, but either way we'll sit with ATT for the time being

If only i could unlock my ATT phone ( 2 year contract still active until march 2017)

AT&T is so strange. I bought a 6s and a 6s Plus on release day directly from AT&T to get the 2-year subsidized price. My wife is using the 6s, and she travels internationally once in a while, so I've been trying to get it unlocked. I've submitted the request at least a dozen times over the past few months, and it's always denied instantly.

My father is using the 6s Plus, and he barely leaves the house and never leaves the country, so I never bothered trying to get it unlocked. Today, I decided to submit an unlock request just to see what would happen, and it was approved instantly on the first try!

I tried again with my wife's 6s, and I was still denied instantly. Not sure why the 6s Plus was unlocked. I'm wondering if it's because it was purchased using an upgrade on a line with unlimited data. Since they raised the price of unlimited data this month, the ETF is waived if you want to get out your contact, so maybe unlock requests are also being granted automatically.

That has nothing to do with it.
Trying to make any sense of it is pointless cause there is no ryme or reason with AT&T. I got 3 lines with unlimited data, 2 of them unlocked within months of getting them under contract. The 3rd one kept getting denied for unlock requests within minutes like you for dozens of times.

Hey guys,

Made an account here just to post up my results from trying to unlock my Iphone 6s via the online request form. I will be leaving for a 2 month trip to southeast asia and was hoping to be able to use my phone.

First couple tries told me it was denied due to account information not matching up. So then I tried using the prepaid/gophone option with no luck--message said the phone was still under the NEXT plan that hadnt been paid off. Same luck trying with the non-att mobility customer option.

I tried again using the current customer form, got the credentials entered correctly (enter w/o account password)(as well email can be entered as your own even if it is not the email associated w/the account), and was denied again for still owing payments.

I figured I would need to just pay a service to get this done, but needed to take my phone in to get repaired (yellow spots showing up on the LCD screen) so held off on finding a paid unlock service. During repair at the apple store they actually broke it and had to replace the phone. So my IMEI did change, but it was already activated under my name when I received it so I do not believe that changed the outcome.

I used the new IMEI with no luck requesting through the online form. For whatever reason when I tried prepaid/gophone and non att mobility this time I got the denial saying that I had a business account and would need to request under the business unlock form.

At this point I was over it. It had taken enough time out of my day running through all this, but decided to do one last search online. Came upon this thread, and skimmed through. When I saw that people were having success using a different number with their IMEI I went ahead and used my sister's number that is tied to the same account (family NEXT plan all with iphone 6s).

BOOM, within minutes of submitting the request I received the "Congratulations! Here are your unlock instructions" message.

Just wanted to post up my process since getting it done was such a pain in the ass. Very thankful to have found this thread.

Also, does anybody know how long it takes for ATT to email the unlock confirmation? In the "Congratulations!" email it says this:

"Once you have received the email confirming AT&T has approved and processed your unlock request, follow these instructions to complete the unlock for your device."

Should have figured there would be no follow up email confirmation of unlocking from ATT.

Went ahead and plugged in my phone, backed it up, then erased it. Got the confirmation on iTunes of the unlock. Restoring now. VERY happy to have this done--one less thing to worry about.

Still no luck for me trying the same thing you did. It took a bit longer, but the denial still showed up.

I used Samunlocks "Fast" service which is $15 after getting my iPhone unlock rejected from AT&T multiple times. They had it done within 24 hours and I am now using it on Simple Mobile's T-Mobile SIM. Personally it was worth it as I was just burning time trying again and again after no luck.

It's too late for me to try one of these unlocking services, but I'm curious if they really can unlock those really hard to unlock phones. I had no problem unlocking 3 of my lines even while in-contract just by using the AT&T form and sometimes submitting a few times, but the 4th iPhone has proven to be impossible to unlock no matter how many times I submitted the form over the past few months.

I left AT&T a few weeks ago, got my final bill with ETFs today, and paid the bill early this afternoon. The phone rep who took my payment even said that now that the final bill has been paid, she was going to submit the unlock request for me and said it would take 4 hours. I never heard from AT&T for the rest of the day, so I tried using the web form just now, and the request still got declined!

I tried to unlock my 6s Plus from Launch Day and kept getting denied (tried online a few times months ago).

Tried again about 3-4 days ago. I tried online and errored out (IMEI mismatch due to cross upgrade), so I called and they put it through manually. The rep told the system I wanted the unlock for travel purposes. Success. Now unlocked.

I didn't even know they could request it for travel purposes anymore. I asked them if they could do a "good will" unlock for customers with a good history, and I was told that the "good will" unlock is basically being allowed to buy yourself out of your contract (pay ETF without actually leaving).

Swiftunlocks unlocked my inlaws 2 iPhones within a day for $10.
I went thru hell before with AT&T to unlock my devices even after etf's were waived and all bills paid it took me over a week and 30-40 calls, aggregation and wasted time.
With my inlaws I did it the easy way and the money spend was well worth saving my sanity:D

There was an IMEI mismatch on my account and I assume that was the reason why he requested it for me as I could not do it myself.

How recently?

I don't understand why it's so difficult. The iPhone I'm trying to unlock isn't even associated with a line with a waived ETF. I paid the ETF for that line and the final bill, and AT&T is still telling me that the special unlock team can't resolve the issue. You would think someone at AT&T could just look at the account, confirm that everything is paid, and then call someone at Apple to whitelist the IMEI for unlocking.
