So you had an 11. Bought the SE and sold the 11. Bought an 11 Pro to try. After changing your mind multiple times you ultimately decided to keep the SE and return the 11 Pro. You now are going back to the 11 even after second guessing yourself on that decision. The only reason you didn't cancel this order is because it wouldn't let you.

Something tells me this saga is far from over.

Yeah it sounds pretty pathetic when you spell it out. I mean this DID happen over the course of 2-3 months. It’s not like I did it all in a week. It’s the first time I have ever had a struggle with phones, other than when I bought pro XS Max and had to return due to OLED issues. That is the ONLY thing I’ve ever returned to Apple before now.

I think the saga is over though. I tried to cancel the order because I was going to wait until the releases before I decided what to do about the 11, but when I thought about the OLED issues I’ve had in the past, I realized it just isn’t likely there will be anything in the 12 lineup that’s doable, unless the OLED on the pros is significantly different. Only time is gonna tell that though, so the decision to stick with LCD really doesn’t leave me a lot of options. Once I got all the OLED devices out of the picture, it really simplified the decision.

I like the SE2’s size, but ultimately, I’m giving up other features I’ve realized are more important to me overall. Insane as it has been, it has helped me to clarify what will likely work best for me going forward.

Also, the SE2 stays either way - my plan was always to give it to my granddaughter. I was either ordering another SE with more storage, or another phone. It’s not like I will be losing money selling off the SE.

I’m chalking it up to a learning experience. ;)

Haha. I thought I was indecisive.

I hope you are happy with it because I think you’ve tried all of your options... until 12 comes out! Lol

I kid, hope you enjoy your new phone. I can relate but I think what happens with me is that I lock up and don’t buy anything when I can’t decide. Which also sucks.

Well, I have made a decision, and I am trying not to reason myself out of it. I’ve decided to go back with an 11. Here are a few of the reasons:

LCD - it’s tried and true, and I know it won’t cause me to have headaches. I’d like to see what Apple does with their OLED before I make that switch. If the OLED on the pros this year is better, then I will know I can jump on that bandwagon in 2021. Meanwhile, I’ll have a device that can last me a few years in the hopes they will do something to improve the PWM issues.

Size - although it’s not my ideal size, and I am a little burnt out on the bigger phone, I’ve had it, and I know it’s usable for me. I like having a bit more screen. The SE2 would be a wonderful size if it were a full screen, and the size of the 11 pro is perfect, but I’m just too nervous about being stuck with a phone that is gonna potentially give me headaches.

Gestures - I am actually just fine with Touch ID, but I miss my gestures being the same as my iPP. I am still constantly trying to swipe from the wrong end all the time, even after a couple months’ use.

Zoom feature - being able to zoom the keyboard on the 11 will make it even bigger, and easier to type on. Even with the SE2 zoomed, I am forever hitting the wrong buttons. I’m not sure if it’s my eyesight or what, but I think being able to zoom the 11 keyboard is gonna be awesome for me. It has helped me on the SE2, but the lack of it being an option on the 11 pro was just another reason not to go there.

Price - certainly a good bit more than the SE2, but I can get 128 gigs on the 11 for $400 less than I can get 256 on the pro. And yeah, that last 100 pays for more storage, but it’s storage I really don’t need, so that’s a waste. The 128 is really a perfect amount of storage for my needs (probably more than I need, but committing to a phone with only 64 gigs for 2-3 years makes me nervous).

I am glad to have tried the smaller phone. I was going to buy one for my granddaughter anyway, so the money isn’t wasted, and it has helped me realize the things I really want/need in a phone. I’ve never played musical phones like this before, but with so many options now, I think it makes it easier to second-guess your decisions. At least now I feel confident in my choice.

I hope perhaps all this will help someone else who is on the fence. ;-p
Yay!

It won't surprise me if I end up with an 11 next! Lol

Well I’ve had an 11, so I do know what I’m getting into at least. ;-p And since I’m not comfortable with OLED yet, I don’t think any of the 12s were gonna be an option.

Yeah I’ve never done anything like this before. I mean I’ve played musical iPads a couple times, but only because we shifted them around amongst family members. This is definitely my first struggle with the phone. In fact, when the 11/11 pro came out, I didn’t even consider doing the pro because of OLED and having had an issue with the XS Max, and I never second-guessed the 11 til the SE2 because I’ve just wanted a smaller phone. I started considering the 11 pro because the SE was just a bit too small, and that 11 pro is just right - wanted to try and make myself get past the OLED issues since all the phones are going that direction.

At the end of the day, I need a phone I know won’t cause me to have headaches, so here I am - back where I started. ;)

don’t do that to her, sounds like it’s been a real struggle to come to this conclusion. I’d have to say I agree with all the OP points on why to go with the 11, for me though I felt the SE will be better suited to me

Hey I deserve it. It’s been fairly ridiculous. I’ve appreciated all the different points of view on the matter.

I just wish I knew which poster it was who told me when I first posted about getting the SE and leaving the 11 that I’d be back. Lol - even though it really was by a process of elimination, and not just that I don’t like the SE. It’s a great phone!

Love that reply, iCorz87. You support, you share, you have your own experience. Yay you!

Might have been me lol

Has your 11 arrived yet?

Should arrive tomorrow.
Keep us posted! I'm excited for you!

Can I ask a big favour please?

Could you post a side by side pic of the SE and the 11? This will help me determine just how much wider and taller the 11 is. Maybe even both stacked on top of each other too if possible please.

My wife has the 8 so can hopefully work it out visually.

Sure. I could actually do that before I get mine. My daughter has an 11 and lives right next door. I’ll try to do it later. If not, I’ll definitely do it tomorrow.

No rush at all it's fine thank you. It will give you a chance to photograph your new toy

Hope these help. Not the best pics - excuse the shadow and my fancy paper towel background. ;-p

The 11 really looks a lot bigger when I have them side by side, but not so much in the pics.

You’re never going to be fully satisfied with the current offerings. That’s why you keep going back and forth to devices that you’ve already tried. I know because I went through a similar cycle—sans a thread about it.

I bought the 11 Pro. I preferred the size over my XS Max...except it was just a pinky fingernail too small and not worth the price of admission. So, I sold it and bought an 11. Cool. It’s Goldilocks if I overlook the (solid) LCD screen, thicker bezels and 256GB storage instead of 512.

However, I miss the smaller form factor of the 11 Pro, the phenomenal battery life and the aesthetics with its UFO-shaped camera housing and soft-to-the-touch frosted glass. Bought the 11 Pro again. I returned it. Just can’t stomach $1300 for a phone anymore. Settled on the XS 512GB. The cost was identical to a 256GB 11. Its battery is far worse than the 11 and 11 Pro, but I get the form factor and the 512GB. iPad Pro will handle the rest. The A12 and 4GB of RAM will keep this beauty running for years. If I get the itch, I’ll buy the 11 Pro once the 12s drop. Don’t kill yourself over the decision. Go with the device that checks most of your boxes. If you grow to regret it you can swap out when the next gens drop.

Thank you ever so much! That's really helpful. I need to try to determine reachability because I can fairly comfortably reach the far side with my thumb in a typing scenario on the wife's 8. It's now a case of knowing just how much difference that little extra width makes.

My note 9 is nearly impossible reaching the bottom left corner one handed. A loopy type case might be in order for me lol.

You know we will still need pics of your nice new phone when it arrives lol its a given

XS 256GB and 512GB costed 749/799 euros in March/April in Europe...
If 11 Pro will have same price - can be a better offer with stainless steel, third camera, optimal 5,8" size, probably better battery life and larger space (512GB) for this price than 12, 12 Max... But we must wait for this price :D

It’s possible I won’t, only because the size I like most is the 11 pro, but the OLED just doesn’t work for me, and paying as much or more than I paid for my iPP does make me cringe. The only device I had already tried is the 11, and I liked my 11 - that’s why I’m going back to it. Yeah I wanted something smaller and more compact, but in the end, after trying those things, I realize the 11 is the overall best option for me, mainly because LCD is tried and true for me, and it’s the only LCD that gives me a larger screen. I want to be small and compact, but I have to face that my eyes likely can’t go back to something quite as small as the SE2, and my head doesn’t like OLED right now. I really don’t see there being actual options for me at this point, which is why the decision was ultimately done by process of elimination in the end.

I would love to see improvements with Apple’s OLED, so I can at least know I’ll be able to get something in the new lineups down the road.

With the Loopy case, I can reach the far upper left corner of the 11 if I have to, though it does require me to stretch. My hands are pretty small though. There’s nowhere else I can’t reach on the phone with my Loopy on. I hold the phone in my right hand and put my middle finger in the loop, using my other three fingers to balance the grip and then I reach with my thumb. Honestly, the Loopy makes using any phone easier because it makes it so easy to expand your grip and really keep the phone secure.

The one I just ordered for my 11 is the 10th one I’ve purchased, although, to be fair, I did return the one for the 11 pro. I can’t imagine using a phone anymore without one.

And yes, I’ll post new phone pics - should arrive this morning. My FedEx usually comes early.

The 12 may not be suitable for you but we all know this won't end with the 11/SE 2. See you in a few months. :)

Yeah we shall see. I mean I’d love for the OLED to improve so I could move forward with OLED at some point. If I could tolerate it, I’d have the 11 pro now and I think I’d be pretty content with that for a while. It’s definitely the best of both worlds for me with regards to size.

The phone arrived a couple hours ago. I had to update my backup on my other phone before I could do anything, so I didn’t take it out til a few minutes ago.

Here are pics. I took them at a weird angle so there wouldn’t be a bunch of weird shadows. My background today is even fancier than a paper towel. ;-p

I do like the creamy white of the 11 a little more than the brighter white of the SE, not that it makes a big difference since I always have a Loopy case on my phones.

Looks much more bigger than on last pictures o_O

I agree. I wonder if it’s because I’m comparing white to white, or that I took the pics at that weird angle, which kinda puts the 11 closer to the camera. I may take another from above just to see, even though the shadows are AWFUL when I do that.
