Well, I have made a decision, and I am trying not to reason myself out of it. I’ve decided to go back with an 11. Here are a few of the reasons:
LCD - it’s tried and true, and I know it won’t cause me to have headaches. I’d like to see what Apple does with their OLED before I make that switch. If the OLED on the pros this year is better, then I will know I can jump on that bandwagon in 2021. Meanwhile, I’ll have a device that can last me a few years in the hopes they will do something to improve the PWM issues.
Size - although it’s not my ideal size, and I am a little burnt out on the bigger phone, I’ve had it, and I know it’s usable for me. I like having a bit more screen. The SE2 would be a wonderful size if it were a full screen, and the size of the 11 pro is perfect, but I’m just too nervous about being stuck with a phone that is gonna potentially give me headaches.
Gestures - I am actually just fine with Touch ID, but I miss my gestures being the same as my iPP. I am still constantly trying to swipe from the wrong end all the time, even after a couple months’ use.
Zoom feature - being able to zoom the keyboard on the 11 will make it even bigger, and easier to type on. Even with the SE2 zoomed, I am forever hitting the wrong buttons. I’m not sure if it’s my eyesight or what, but I think being able to zoom the 11 keyboard is gonna be awesome for me. It has helped me on the SE2, but the lack of it being an option on the 11 pro was just another reason not to go there.
Price - certainly a good bit more than the SE2, but I can get 128 gigs on the 11 for $400 less than I can get 256 on the pro. And yeah, that last 100 pays for more storage, but it’s storage I really don’t need, so that’s a waste. The 128 is really a perfect amount of storage for my needs (probably more than I need, but committing to a phone with only 64 gigs for 2-3 years makes me nervous).
I am glad to have tried the smaller phone. I was going to buy one for my granddaughter anyway, so the money isn’t wasted, and it has helped me realize the things I really want/need in a phone. I’ve never played musical phones like this before, but with so many options now, I think it makes it easier to second-guess your decisions. At least now I feel confident in my choice.
I hope perhaps all this will help someone else who is on the fence. ;-p
