@ssledoux

This was an interesting thread to read through. I’ve got an 11 Pro that’s worked great for me. My only issue is that in the aftermath of an illness that might have been Covid, I have been even more clumsy than I already was from some pre existing neurological issue I will eventually need diagnosed. Whatever it is, I’m more prone to dropping things and tripping and needed my Caudabe to save my 11Pro a few too many times than was comfortable.

11 Pro was pricey to get Apple Care+ on, so we didn’t. Then it’s ridiculously expensive to repair. I’m not always going to be this wobbly, at least I hope not. Between the clumsiness and we all needing masks to run errands, my family thought an SE would be a nice Mother’s Day gift. And it’s great. It is light and easy to handle. I love it.

I like the pictures it takes but I appreciate zoom and wide angle lenses on my 11 Pro. I really don’t know how I’d pick between them if I had to. I can completely empathize with your dilemma.

I had seriously bad migraine reactions to previous Apple OLEDs. I’m good on the 11Pro. I actually find it a little easier on the eyes than LCD because the LCD backlight can at times feel harsh. But pwm is hard on the brain if the flicker rate or pattern conflicts with the senses.

I found a small mention once somewhere and unfortunately lost the link, but I think the reason IPhone pwm causes issues when Samsung phones often don’t, despite the displays of both being made by Samsung, is due to Apple imposing a special exclusive flicker pattern at the sub pixel level. I forgot why they do this. It may be to stave off burn in and prolong the life of the display. But the point is that they do not just take the panels without imposing their own custom standards.

I do think they tweaked something in the 11 Pro series, otherwise I could not use the 11 Pro with no issues (that I’m aware of). I mean there’s a possibility my clumsiness is related somehow, but that’s a real stretch. Even I’m not willing to go there.

I’m able to switch between the two phones with ease. I also use a Samsung S20 because I’m a phone nut and I don’t want to be captive to one platform.

But in the future, I would advise if you’re trying to evaluate if a new OLED display is affecting you, go cold turkey and use the new phone exclusively during the evaluation period. Even I can feel my eyes and brain making an adjustment when I switch back and forth. So, I try to stick to the same display for a whole day. I’m currently on my 11 Pro because the SE is charging.

In your case, using an LCD iPad as often as you do, it probably is helpful you’re using a similar display on your phone.

I think I’m going to sit out the iPhone 12’s. The 11 Pro is almost perfect. I’d genuinely enjoy having it 2 years. Especially with an SE around when I want to go light.

I hope you’re enjoying your iPhone 11.

Well first, I am sorry you are going through these health issues, and I hope you get some answers, and a full recovery!

Thanks for this information. I agree with you that the 11 pro is about perfect. It really does seem like the best of both worlds as far as size/manageability. It’s a fantastic device, and I almost stuck with it. I did use the phone for at least a day, not switching to my SE2, although I used my iPad some during that time as well. I was just too nervous to wind up stuck with it if I wasn’t imagining those headaches. Since I knew the 11 would work for me, it just seemed like the safe bet, and honestly, I’m pretty happy with it. When I pick up the SE (my granddaughter has it), it does make me miss the size a bit, but when I’m using the 11, I’m really appreciative of the extra screen and the gestures.

I’m planning to sit out the 12s myself, at least for a while until the jury is out on those displays, and/or I can physically go into an Apple store and see them all. I know I can be content with the 11 for a while.

Considering she said the 11 pro weights a little more than SE2 it gave the impression that there is not that much difference in weight between the two but there is with the 11, and six grams is a small difference compared to the 40 grams between the SE and the 11 pro.

You’re right - likely just the overall bulk that makes it seem heavier. I mean really in the grand scheme, there’s not much weight difference between any of them, but it feels like a lot at times.

Honestly, I’ve never put the pro against the 11 - the size difference overall is likely not that great. The size difference in the SE2 and the 11 pro also isn’t that great (just talking size, not weight). However, when you put the SE2 by the 11, the size difference is pretty substantial.

Your three main gripes with SE2 I have 'resolved' for myself:

1- battery life. Got a Smart Battery Case PM'd from Kohls.com @ Best Buy for like just under $40. Doubled it easily. Sometimes I wanna slim and bulk down and then I use my silicone or saddle brown leather cases.

2- small keyboard. I'm with ya... when I moved from XR to SE2 I made a million typos. With jailbreak, I use a tweak (Little11 with setting enabled) that lets me enlarge the keyboard to be a bit bigger, more spread out, and bottom chin on X-style iPhones that have the emoji thing to the left of the spacebar

3- Lack of X gestures. Again, I use Little11 tweak to swipe up so I alternate between home button presses and X gestures

--

This thing is a magnificent little beast for $290ish net including the Smart Battery case (got 128GB white SE2 from Walmart for $250, that deal everyone is talking about and paid off the phone immediately so I'm not beholden to ATT monthly installments) and couldn't think of a more perfect price for a holdover device, which could turn into a backup device down the road (won't sell this thing ever, the build and screen are perfect) or just remain my device for some time if I dont see the value and benefit in iPhone 12 offerings.

Coupled with the fact I sold my 128 XR for $525 when I got this device that was 18 months or so old close to being 2 gens behind, I'm sitting pretty for a release cycle I'm really excited about.

guess I'm just stuck in the Apple 'stoneage' with my SE2, 12.9 gen 2 Pro iPad, and Mini 5 which some people didnt like was the classic form factor but I personally loved and preferred to FaceID on a tablet.

I've had X, XR, and demo'd a 11" Pro iPad before returning (it was just too much money for what it was, but they are nice iPads)

I did the same thing. I bought the 7 charging case for $29.99 from kohl’s on clearance and I just downloaded the tweak you suggested for the keyboard. Thanks!

Oh and get Quanta tweak from HBang.

Shows % of Smart Battery case on status bar AND internal battery, instead of just 100% and charged internal battery status (where you have to look at Battery widget to observe consumption and level of Smart bAttery case, not sure why Apple did this it doesn't seem the 'smartest' experience to me)

I feel I've mentioned it before, but maybe the recommendation can be for other jailbreak users lurking in this thread with battery cases unaware there's a better way!

Only? Six grams is Definitely noticeable. When you’re used to using the same device for an extended amount of time and migrate to a iPhone model that might be considerably heavier, I can tell you right now you will notice a difference when it comes to a weight differential, even if it is 6g heavier.

Just for the reference, six grams is the exact weight of six 1$ bills. So anyone interested can try weighing them in their hand.

My Loopy case has arrived! I’m officially able to use my 11 normally.

Sorry about the glare, but I have a good background! ;-p

It is look like alternative to pop socket. But doesn't make it thicker.

It is similar, but since I only put my middle finger through the loop, I can spread my hand out better and have a lot more control of the phone. The reachability is a lot better because of that.

The first pic is how I typically hold it (not usually upside down of course). ;-p It really distributes the weight of the phone well.

The second is how far I can reach with my thumb if I need to. I can open the folder in the top left corner. It’s a little stretch, but I can do it fairly easily.

Just thought I’d share for those who have never seen a Loopy case.

Cute case!! What do you think about the size difference between the 11 Pro and 11?

Thanks! I love Loopy cases!

I think the pro is a perfect size, and, of course, a bit easier to manage overall, but for now I really wanted to stick with LCD, so I wound up choosing between the SE2 and 11.

If the pro were LCD, it would’ve been a no brainer. I think that is the right size phone for me.

Yay! Still going strong with the 11

Lol IDK if I’d call it that. I just got the case so I haven’t really used it much until today. Honestly, I’m still struggling. Each of the phones have their pros/cons. I’m not sure any decision I make is gonna make me happy. This is absurd. I’ve never been so damn indecisive and unable to make a solid decision in my life, and it’s just a DANG PHONE!

You are contaminating the world all by yourself with so many purchases!

I sold the 11 pro, got the SE, and never looked back. Yes, the 11P is nicer and the "all screen" design is something I sometimes miss, but the screen free of notch and sharp edges was also something I was missing.

And the price... the SE is 50% the cost of the 11P... I can´t believe I paid over 1000 dls for a 64 gb storage phone.

The 5.4 is going to be a great option if they keep the weight near the SE 2020, if it´s heavy, it´s not an option for me.

I had PWM problems with the X and XS; but the 11P was good, not great as LCD; but good enough. So I think the 12 line up would be fine also in that aspect.

I had the iPhone 8. I would use it mainly on my days off , when I was out in the garden, small enough to keep in my pocket. What I didn’t like about it was I needed my reading glasses to do anything else with it, so I finally sold it, but it was a beautiful little red phone.
I also couldn’t make up my mind between the 11 and 11 pro max. I went to Apple store and bought the yellow 11, and then a week later changed it to the purple one, should have kept the yellow though. Then about 3 weeks later bought the silver 11 pro max. Sold the 11. That was beginning of March, still have 11 Pro Max.
I like your loopy case, but doesn’t it get in the way of wireless charging?

Contaminating the world? Really? I’ve returned ONE phone. Yes, I will return one more once I make up my mind, but I have only returned two Apple device in, IDK, nearly 20 years. I think it’ll be okay.

And yes, I know it’s absolutely ridiculous. I’ve stated that. I cannot even fathom why this has become such an issue for me. It’s flipping absurd.

This is what I feel like. Why in the heck am I so indecisive about this? Never in my life...

I have never used wireless charging, but yeah, I’m sure it would get in the way. It’s just too important to me to have a chase, and I really, really like the Loopy. Plugging in the phone just isn’t a big deal to me.

This was a joke...
In today’s climate with people scolding each other over the smallest of things it didn’t sound like a joke to me, either. But now that you’ve explained you were joking, I think we can all relax, share a laugh and agree @ssledoux has been on quite the journey of indecision this year.

And I totally am with her. I’m able to keep the 11 Pro and the SE so I don’t have to choose between them. But if I had to choose between them, my head would explode. I also use Android devices so I go in circles on the choices on that platform, too. Fortunately I’ve settled down to what I currently own.

I used to own only one phone at a time and upgrade annually. The only time I didn’t upgrade for almost 3 years was when I had an iPhone 4. That was my dream phone. I kind of had to be prodded into upgrading to an iPhone 5s and I’ve never quite been as satisfied as I was with my iPhone 4. I think my husband regrets dragging me away from that phone. He created a monster.

When I do find contentment, I am capable of staying with a device until it is no longer viable. I do that with my ipads. I have an old iPad Pro that was already used for a year by my husband when I got it. My iPad mini 5 will last me for years to come

I’ve been on the same two Apple Watches for a couple of years now. One I use for swimming and rough and tumble activities. The more expensive gold steel one is for general wear.

But my issue with iPhones and smartphones in general is more complicated. My friends over on the non iOS portion of this forum are used to me going through similar gymnastics of indecision when the Samsung phones are released. I can never make up my mind which size to preorder. I will make multiple orders and cancel one or the other then make a new one. They’re quite patient with me over there.

Oops. Sorry. I’m not usually sensitive. But then again, I’m not usually indecisive. ;-p

I just bought a Loopy. Periwinkle color. Lefty even though I am right handed.

I hope you love it! I find I can use it in either hand just for holding and reading, but if I really wanna use my phone one-handed, I use it in my right hand, so I just always get that one.

It was so easy when there was just one, but I’m definitely thankful for choices. Honestly, I never second-guessed a size or anything before now. They just each have their pros/cons, and the pros/cons are SO different for each device.

I thought you get every Samsung flagship that comes out, lol. It is tempting though when they give you a good trade in deal. I still have the pink S10 plus, but I love the baby blue of the S20. I kick myself when I didn’t buy the Note 10 plus with galaxy earbuds for $350 with my trade in. This was last Christmas. Offer didn’t last long, and I like the Note series, the last one I had was a Note 5. Good phone.

Well, it’s officially done. Again.

I’m back to the SE, and staying put for now. I’ll see what happens with the 12s, and if nothing appeals to me, I’ll just stick with the SE for a while. There are a lot of things I like (and will probably miss) about the 11, but size wins. I’m just over having a big, heavy phone.

My sister was here today with her 11 pro, and honestly, though the size is awesome, it’s still quite a bit heavier than this SE. I was comparing it to the 11, and there is little to no difference in the weight, as someone mentioned above. The 11 is bulkier of course.

I hope now that I’ve tried pretty much every phone out there, I can be content.

Thanks to anyone who has stuck it out through my insanity here. I appreciate all the input and comments.

What has your hubby said about your phone merry-go-round? I hope you will be happy this time. Lol

He has no clue. He doesn’t really pay attention to stuff like that. Besides, he’s been on the phone poopy list since he went to android some years back. ;-p

I’m sure he would just think I was nuts, which is how I feel about myself about now.

A man that doesn’t care about iPhone....I can’t imagine living my life that way. Lol. At least he hasn’t given you the tenth degree which, you probably do deserve. Lol If you do this with the 12’s, we will have to do an intervention on your behalf.

With the money i saved getting the SE instead an 11 pro, I will probably allocate that money to a new Apple Watch in a few months. Try to think of things in that light and you can see a new watch on your wrist as well.
