I sold my 11 to get the SE2 and I absolutely love the size, was fine to go back to touch ID, was okay to give up the full screen to get the smaller phone, and I don’t mind bezels. The battery life wasn’t an issue for me because even though I had to charge it more often, it charges quickly on an iPad charger if I need it fast. It’s always connected if I’m in my car, so it has plenty of time to charge up before I get anywhere, etc.

Anyway, I was really loving everything about it, except typing. I can NOT type on it, and just can’t seem to wrap my brain around swiping. It just goes against everything I’m used to doing when it comes to typing. In addition, you have to swipe a word, correct it if it doesn’t do the right word, redo it, hit space bar, etc. It almost feels like it takes more time to me. Talking to text requires so much correcting it’s ridiculous.

I had pretty much realized going to a 5.4 in the fall would be a no-go, and I really want to stay smaller than a 6.1. So, I wound up ordering an 11 pro. I figured it would give me a chance to try OLED again (tried it with the XS Max and had some headache issues, so I returned it), as well as trying the size to see if it would be a nice middle ground for me. I had no idea how close it was in size to the SE2, albeit a little heavier and more “solid,” due to the SS and internals I’m sure.

So where am I? Struggling. ;-p

SE2 is a light, compact little phone that really does all I need it to. With a Loopy case it is super easy to use one-handed. The camera is fine for my needs, although I sometimes miss portrait mode with objects or animals. It’s speedy, and I have no issues with the battery life - just charge it more often. The screen is small, but usable, and the display is great.

The 11 pro is an absolutely stunning device. It’s definitely easier for me to type on, has a great camera, which is certainly a perk. The size seems just right, and, even though it weighs a little more than the SE2, it’s still not as heavy as my 11. I can’t speak to how easy it is to use one-handed with a Loopy because I don’t have a Loopy for it, but I think it would be fine. Obviously the screen is gorgeous, and it’s nice to have the screen size without much more phone size.

Do I think it’s worth the price difference? For me, not really, although right now I’m leaning toward keeping the 11 pro, mainly because I think it’ll suit me better than the options in the fall, and I just don’t think I want to struggle with the typing issue long-term. Texting is probably what I do most on my phone, so I feel like that will always be an issue that bothers me.

I’m still on the fence, and I have a few more days to play with both phones and decide for sure, but I thought I’d update for those who were curious, or anyone trying to make a similar decision.

I’m in the same boat mostly. I have an iPhone 8 right now. Tried out the 11 Pro for a couple of months and couldn’t get used to it. Yes it’s close in size to the 8 but I find the 8 much easier to navigate especially one handed because the bezels in the 8 provide smaller display real estate. On the 11 Pro when using one handed you have to use your thumb to get to the bottom of the device vs with the 8 you have that ‘shrunken’ display because of the bezels and home button where you don’t have to move your thumb too much. Even after 3 month of 11 Pro constant use my fingers felt fatigue. Maybe I have small fingers don’t know. Yea the larger display real estate on the 11 Pro is nice but it’s a trade off. However I don’t really prefer a large screen on a smartphone anyway. Also I wear cargo pants for work and the cell phone pocket fits the 8 perfectly where the 11 Pro sticks out too much.

I was hoping for an SE with no home button and smaller bezels but that didn’t happen.

Well, I use Loopy cases on my phones, and it really does enable me to use bigger phones/screens one-handed almost all the time. Every now and again I might have to touch something in the very top left corner with my other hand (and that was on my 11, which was bigger than the 11 pro). I just got tired of having a big phone after years of big phones.

I have really been loving the SE, but of course I’ve been overthinking whether I’ll want to go even smaller to the 5.4, or back to a 6.1 if I get something from the 12 line. That’s why I’ve been torturing myself over the 11 pro - the size is really great.

At this point though, I’ve decided to stick it out and see what comes in the fall then decide. Heck I may just stick with the SE til next year. The OLED bothers me some, and I just don’t know if I want to fight it, but I’m also not really interested in going back to an 11 - just too much phone at this point. I don’t know of any other options going forward.

I bought an iPhone SE 2020 a few days ago, but it's my first iPhone, replacing my failing Samsung Galaxy Note 4 phone. I decided to give the iPhone a try as a result, as I wanted a phone that worked better with my Mac Mini and my MacBook (like syncing music and importing photos and videos I take), and I wanted something utilizing a similar form factor as the iPod Touch, albeit a bit bigger, because currently I'm not as crazy about the iPhone X/11 design as some others are. The 64 GB iPhone SE 2020 pretty much has everything I need, and when I read how it has similar specs to the iPhone 11 but in the older form factor I couldn't resist even more. I like how Pokémon Go even loads faster than it did on my Samsung Galaxy Note 4. The only thing I miss is the ability to increase the touch sensitivity if you wear gloves, like when it's wintertime, or I'm cosplaying at a convention in Boston and wearing the 'toony gloves that go with my fursuits (since I take most con photos on my phone anyways.) Maybe I'll find an iPhone SE-compatible stylus to use in that case.

For sure coming from the Note 4 you should notice a major upgrade in almost every aspect. Except maybe some of the customization you were used to on Android. Even then what Android version was your Note on... 6.0? If that the case then I feel as though iOS 13 still has a lot of what you were used to anyway plus wayyy better performance.

Regardless welcome to iOS hopefully you enjoy it. I feel like the SE will last you a good amount of time. Just out of curiosity how long did you use the Note 4?

You might look into getting a messenger or sling bag for your iPad, which would make it a little more viable on the go. I ordered one earlier today (TomToc) from Amazon.

Received my Tomtoc messenger bag just now from Amazon. The iPad storage area is very well padded, especially on the corners and bottom of the bag. The pictures on Amazon depicting the inside of this bag are accurate. As a test, I placed my iPad Pro 11 (with the Magic Keyboard attached) inside the INCASE Icon Sleeve for the MacBook 12”, and then placed that inside the Tomtoc IPad compartment and it fit. There is also ample room in the separate accessories compartment, albeit that compartment is not as well padded, for obvious reasons.

I am going to feel comfortable carrying around my iPad Pro 11” in the Tomtoc case.

Yep, I’ve had the same thoughts too. I love my 11 Pro size and the battery life is excellent. The SE, if I do get one, will probably be a back up phone. I’m still debating on if I should get the 5.4” in 12 when it comes out. Sucks cause I’ve wanted to stick with my pro for at least 2 years.

Very nice bag. Typically if I’m taking my iPP anywhere, it’s because I’m going overnight or longer, so I put it in one of my travel bags, but if I were taking it out on a regular basis, this would be awesome!

It looks like iPhone 12.4” is going to be quite small. To get a better idea of the size compared to your current device, try this paper mould:

It looks even smaller on that than what it did in the comparison done with the dummy, but either way, it’s gonna be a pretty small phone for sure.

Yeah it’s a really great size.

I absolutely agree. It’s why I’ve really struggled with the fact that I think the 11 pro is the perfect size, having come from the 11 down to the SE2. I just think long-term I’d love the 11 pro size. Nothing in the 12 lineup looks like it’s gonna be perfect for me, and I knew going into the SE2, it would be temporary. My plan was always to use it until 12s came out then pass it to my granddaughter. Now I just don’t know if I’m gonna want a 12 at all, but I REALLY don’t want to spend $1000 on a phone - it’s just the principle for me. I mean an 11 pro phone would cost as much as my 11” iPP, and it just doesn’t make sense in my brain.

I’m definitely sticking with the SE2 for now and I guess I’m just gonna see if I’m compelled to change in the fall.

Ya I bitch about the 11 Pro size and weight but in fact the size is OK, I put it up against a cased 8 or my Pixel 3 and it's barely any bigger, maybe a bit thicker. My issue with it is the weight, it's such a heavy beast for a pocket or cycling jersey, whatever.

Don't forget when you say 8 is as small as you're willing to go compared to the 5.4" 12, the 12 is bezel-less so much more screen even if a smaller form factor. For me that size sounds perfect. Of course because it's the smallest screen on the next iphone, they'll no doubt dumb it down with a less capable cam array etc rendering it useless to me.

Not sure when phone manufacturers will start building premium phones in small form factors again...I really get the feeling more and more people hate the monster size phones.

I agree when I had the 11Pro I definitely knew it was in my cell phone pocket.

Honestly I really liked my 11, and could use it one-handed with a Loopy probably about 80% of the time. I had just had big phones for so long I really wanted something smaller. Since my plan all along was to give my granddaughter the SE2 at some point anyway, it was a good way to have some time with a small phone and see if I want to go back small for the long haul.

I used the Note 4 from January 2016 up until the start of this month. And I have had experience with iOS before, with my iPod Touch.

If you put the 11 Pro in a case it’s bigger than a cased iPhone 8.

For instance my favorite case is the Magpul Bump case and there’s a noticeable difference between a cased iPhone 8 and and and similar 11 Pro Magpul Bump case.

Have not tried it, but I definitely will.

Well, this is what I’m concerned about. I had pretty much made up my mind I’d keep the 11 Pro. I don’t really think the SE is gonna be my optimum size for long term (the phone size is awesome, but I know I won’t want to stay with that small of a screen). However, I’m trying to use the 11 pro a bit more this evening to see how it does, and it’s starting to give me a headache.

The OLED issue concerns me because it’s pretty much gonna rule out most iPhones going forward. I mean I can handle that for a couple years since I can go back to an 11 for more screen size if I have to, but what am I gonna do long-term? I am NOT getting out of the Apple ecosystem.

Anyway, that’s for another thread. I’m gonna mess with the pro over the weekend, and make a decision by Monday. If the headaches keep up, the answer will be pretty clear.

I was like you with the headaches too. PWM, or eye strain because of the Oled. That was with the X so I was happy when the XR came out. Now I have the Pro Max and no eye strain.

Saying that, I say go with the 11 Pro. It’s going to be discontinued by Apple but I’m sure you will be able to buy it from carriers etc until it’s done, newly speaking. Also it’s the perfect size for not being too small, and not to big. The XR is nice but that 5.8 11 pro is just right, plus, you like typing like someone said, that’s the key, your typing. If I’m extra honest, I’m going back to the 11 Pro myself. 6.5 is nice but I want more portability. New SE? Nope. To me it’s just the iPhone 6s and I been there done that.

Right now, you have the option to choose and that buzz is always a high cloud pressure buzz lol, trust me, I know, I love Verizon’s 14 day trial! The 11 Pro, you can’t go wrong.

*update I read the posts after I posted and I see you choose the SE. 👍

LOL well I’m actually still kinda on the fence, mainly because I am not super excited about anything coming in the fall, and my plan was never to keep the SE long-term; it was mainly to use it til I could decide if going smaller was what I really wanted, and it’s really a little smaller than I think I’d want to have for a long time. Honestly the overall size is great, but I know I’ll want a larger screen, and the 5.4 is looking like it’s just gonna be too small for me overall.

I’m not really interested in going back to a 6.1. Honestly, if I was I’d just go back to an 11 and call it a day because I know that LCD screen won’t bother me, and the 11 was a great phone.

I just like that in-between size of the 11 pro, but the price has just been holding me back. I can afford to buy it, but do I need to? Is it really giving me $600 more worth of stuff than this SE? There are things I like about it for sure, and I think the size is pretty much perfect, but for the money? I just can’t make that decision. The inner struggle has been real. ;-p

Tried the XR, 11 and SE2. Kept the SE as my new daily driver. Size is great! Incredibly fast and all the extra features are nice too. Camera options and QI charging and only $399! Still very future proof as it has the best cpu like the pro. You could always get the SE to see what comes down the pipe also.

You're way overthinking it. If you can afford it then get the 11 Pro.

You don't really want to go back to the 11, nothing about the upcoming 12 series interests you and your current plan wasn't to use your SE long term.

There aren't any other options within the IOS realm.

You’re definitely right about one thing - I’m totally overthinking it. I would totally get the 11 pro with no issue, but I do have that whole PWM crap in the back of my mind. The XS Max gave me headaches, and I’ve just been worried about how I’ll do with the 11 pro long-term. I can’t afford to get it and have issues and not be able to send it back.

I’ll figure it out eventually. ;-p

Well if the Max gave you issues there's a strong chance the 11 Pro will too(and any of the 12 models).

With that being the case then you have a simple choice. Stay with your SE even though that wasn't the plan or go back to the 11!

Yeah I kinda feel like those are my options. The other thing is to try and struggle through with the 11 pro since going forward LCD is not gonna be an option, but I mean I could use the 11 a couple more years and hope maybe they improve the OLED. I hate going back that big, but the SE screen is just a little too small for me to be comfortable with for long-term use. But IDK - right now I’m using it and loving certain things about it, so I’m just in limbo til something pushes me over the edge one way or another. ;-p

Well, I have made a decision, and I am trying not to reason myself out of it. I’ve decided to go back with an 11. Here are a few of the reasons:

LCD - it’s tried and true, and I know it won’t cause me to have headaches. I’d like to see what Apple does with their OLED before I make that switch. If the OLED on the pros this year is better, then I will know I can jump on that bandwagon in 2021. Meanwhile, I’ll have a device that can last me a few years in the hopes they will do something to improve the PWM issues.

Size - although it’s not my ideal size, and I am a little burnt out on the bigger phone, I’ve had it, and I know it’s usable for me. I like having a bit more screen. The SE2 would be a wonderful size if it were a full screen, and the size of the 11 pro is perfect, but I’m just too nervous about being stuck with a phone that is gonna potentially give me headaches.

Gestures - I am actually just fine with Touch ID, but I miss my gestures being the same as my iPP. I am still constantly trying to swipe from the wrong end all the time, even after a couple months’ use.

Zoom feature - being able to zoom the keyboard on the 11 will make it even bigger, and easier to type on. Even with the SE2 zoomed, I am forever hitting the wrong buttons. I’m not sure if it’s my eyesight or what, but I think being able to zoom the 11 keyboard is gonna be awesome for me. It has helped me on the SE2, but the lack of it being an option on the 11 pro was just another reason not to go there.

Price - certainly a good bit more than the SE2, but I can get 128 gigs on the 11 for $400 less than I can get 256 on the pro. And yeah, that last 100 pays for more storage, but it’s storage I really don’t need, so that’s a waste. The 128 is really a perfect amount of storage for my needs (probably more than I need, but committing to a phone with only 64 gigs for 2-3 years makes me nervous).

I am glad to have tried the smaller phone. I was going to buy one for my granddaughter anyway, so the money isn’t wasted, and it has helped me realize the things I really want/need in a phone. I’ve never played musical phones like this before, but with so many options now, I think it makes it easier to second-guess your decisions. At least now I feel confident in my choice.

I hope perhaps all this will help someone else who is on the fence. ;-p

I hope perhaps all this will help someone else who is on the fence. ;-p
I’ve been experiencing a similar saga. I agree with so much that you’ve said, so I’m going to say that it all makes lots of sense. :) And I, too, feel comfortable with my (latest) decision.

Sold a 11PM in April to try the smaller size and get back to a phone that didn’t hurt my eyes. Loved the SE size, but eventually all the reasons I chosen a bigger screen for years festered, and I’ve gone back to a bigger phone.

However, my boyfriend did talk me down from the OLED that gave me issues, and I bought the 11. Love the LCD. Love the gestures. Love the 128gb. Love the size. Just finally feels what will work best for me.

Now I just really hope I stick with this decision. If not, may I be peaceful enough to adjust and may my boyfriend continue his ridiculously-tested patience with me and my phone search.

But it is a long lazy Sunday afternoon. Lots of time for second, third and fourth thoughts o_O :) Hope it all works out.

LOL well I ordered it yesterday, and DID try to cancel it shortly after. I have definitely been overthinking it, and when I couldn’t cancel, I figured I’d return it without even opening it.

Today I just realized all the reasons why it makes more sense for me to use that going forward. Honestly, I eliminated the 11 pro from the options for a few reasons, which left me with SE2 vs 11 The SE2‘s screen is just a bit smaller than I am comfortable with, so it really left me no real options. With the lineup of 12s being all OLED, I just can’t count on being able to use one.

So I ordered my Loopy case this morning, and that just sealed the deal. I’m all in now. ;-p

Funny that we both wound up going through similar things, and ended up choosing the same device. I’ve had the 11, so I know what to expect, but I’m glad I tried the smaller phone, and the 11 pro for a few days - it at least solidifies what I’m NOT comfortable with right now.
