Well, it’s officially done. Again.

I’m back to the SE, and staying put for now. I’ll see what happens with the 12s, and if nothing appeals to me, I’ll just stick with the SE for a while. There are a lot of things I like (and will probably miss) about the 11, but size wins. I’m just over having a big, heavy phone.

My sister was here today with her 11 pro, and honestly, though the size is awesome, it’s still quite a bit heavier than this SE. I was comparing it to the 11, and there is little to no difference in the weight, as someone mentioned above. The 11 is bulkier of course.

I hope now that I’ve tried pretty much every phone out there, I can be content.

Thanks to anyone who has stuck it out through my insanity here. I appreciate all the input and comments.
Oh wow that changed quickly!

Honestly I’m glad you sent the 11 back. I think you would be happy with a newer model. I’m kicking myself for not waiting the six months or so. My old battery is still at 83.. would have been fine for a day at work. If they are that good I will just pay mine off and get the new one lol. But only because I’m not overly enthusiastic about the Max size.

So that post was about an hour ago. Have you ordered another 11 Pro yet? 🤣.

I said over a week ago the saga wasn't over...

If nothing else this thread has kept stuff interesting on MacRumors.

I still don’t think it’s over though. Regardless, of indecisiveness the main thing is to be happy with it...

A man that doesn’t care about iPhone....I can’t imagine living my life that way. Lol. At least he hasn’t given you the tenth degree which, you probably do deserve. Lol If you do this with the 12’s, we will have to do an intervention on your behalf.

With the money i saved getting the SE instead an 11 pro, I will probably allocate that money to a new Apple Watch in a few months. Try to think of things in that light and you can see a new watch on your wrist as well.

Well I mean it’s obvious he doesn’t care if he’s using Android, right? 😝 He doesn’t usually give me too much crap about anything - he’s pretty tolerant of my shenanigans, but I’m really not usually this bad in real life.

That’s a good way of looking at it, although I just recently bought the S5 (couldn’t beat it when they were on sale for 299 and I sold my S4 cellular for $270), so IDK if I’ll be changing watches. Honestly, unless it gets thinner/lighter somehow, I probably won’t. I may splurge on a few more bands though. :)

Oh wow that changed quickly!

I know right? When I initially got the new 11, I was thinking that was it, but within a couple days of using it, I just couldn’t get over how heavy I felt it was. I mean I used an 11 for 6-7 months before I got the SE, but I quickly got spoiled to the weight and overall size of the SE. I never understood people who said the 11 felt like a brick, but after using the small phone, it really did feel like a heavy, chunky device. And then when my sister came over with her 11 pro yesterday, I was shocked that it was almost as heavy.

I thought you get every Samsung flagship that comes out, lol. It is tempting though when they give you a good trade in deal. I still have the pink S10 plus, but I love the baby blue of the S20. I kick myself when I didn’t buy the Note 10 plus with galaxy earbuds for $350 with my trade in. This was last Christmas. Offer didn’t last long, and I like the Note series, the last one I had was a Note 5. Good phone.
Yeah I think since I got my first Samsung, the Note 7, I have gotten all the flagships. My husband and I loved our Note 7’s. We didn’t have any complaints and were extremely disappointed to have to turn them back in because of the battery issue.

Every single Samsung since then has had one thing that made us trade in for the next model. However, if I had it all to do over I would have stayed with my S9+ for 2 years. I really liked it. My S10+ had a wonky proximity sensor issue that sometimes kept the display active and actionable while I was on calls. Otherwise it would have been ideal and I would have stayed on it. It had the headphone jack. I miss that.

Lol not yet, but give me a few days... ;-p

Honestly, I doubt 11 pro is where I would wind up at this point, even though I half figured I’d see what happened with the 12s then maybe go with an 11 pro when the prices dropped. I just didn’t realize it was almost as heavy as the 11. The size is so perfect though. I just have no clue what I’ll do down the road, or if I’ll just stick it out with this little phone for a while.

I was thinking I missed the swiping gestures, but honestly, when I used the 11, I kinda missed the home button after having it a couple months. I’m pretty sure none of the phones are perfect for me right now, so I may as well go with cheap. :)

Interesting, or just plain ridiculous?

I’d like to say it’s over but dang, I really felt like it was over when I got that 11 last week. I’m honestly shocked that I wanted to go back to the SE.

I’m hoping the next chapter will at least be after the 12s come out. My plan all along was to have the SE til the 5.4 came out, but then the size of that one made me panic. Now I’m realizing that may wind up being just right. Who knows?

I just never really noticed that with the weight before. Of course, I had the + phones for years, so going to an XR then 11 wasn’t really a big deal. After using the SE, it was super noticeable.

As for the SE+, I surely would never want to go back to anything the size of a 6/7/8+. I don’t know if that’s what it’ll be, but I have been there, done that, and not interested in going back.

Well I think you can stick with the SE until Sept/Oct. August is almost here. The 11 series phones are heavy, especially the 11 pro max, which is the one I have, but I’ll take it for good battery life.

Have you reached out to Loopy to ask them for a swap since you already got your 11 case? I've gone through this song and dance before myself (XS -> XR -> 8 -> XS) and still have a bunch of cases/screen protectors lying around for them. Just didn't seem worth the effort to go through the return/exchange process as I never actually knew where I'd settle.

I don’t even know what a proximity sensor is, but I don’t have that problem with mine. What it does do though, is the screen dims while I’m using it, and then gets bright again. I have to figure out why it does this.
I have a friend that had the purple Note 9, sold it and bought the Note 10, then later regretted that decision.

If I were her I would return it. Just get a bubble envelope, and take it to the post office. That’s what I did with a castify case. You’ll lose a few dollars, but better than selling it.

In my situation either the 11pro or 11 will be lighter. I personally prefer to know that the phone is in my pocket so weight isn't too much of an issue. Laying in bed on my phone I notice it but not to the extent I'm frustrated with it.

Who knows what the 12s bring. When do apple hold their events and unveil the new devices?

I’ve ordered a new one for the SE, and am returning the one for the 11 - all packaged and ready to go. I actually have one for the SE I originally bought, but since I gave the phone to my granddaughter, I left the Loopy on it for her. I probably wouldn’t sweat it much for a $10-12 case, but for $40, I’ll send it back.

Yeah if you’re coming from the max, you have nowhere to go in weight/size but down (well, until the fall). And yeah it’s when I’m using my phone in bed that it is really noticeable. Well that and just trying to use it one-handed. I never really had an issue before, but using the small phone made me realize just how much I was having to reach and stretch to use the 11 with one hand. It’s just so EASY with the SE.

Apple holds events in September. I’m anxious to see what they’ll offer, but gosh I don’t need to ever go through this again.

I've a note 9 currently so I'm in the android world for now. I had the iPhone 7 last and that was spot on size and weight wise. Literally is the new SE.

I have my wife's old SE in a drawer and just to update it I get out and mess about with settings and browse reddit. Oh my it's so tiny and light. Using my note after it feels like a monster to hold!

I've done well to have this device nearly two years to be honest lol

The old SE bless it was dropped in mud. The battery is shot on it. One minute it's 60% the next it's 12.. I'll not be using this like used her old 5S to test drive before the 7.

I remember you dwelling over iPad sizes as well. In the end, it's just a piece of technology that will soon be outdated anyway, so it's not an eternal commitment. ;)

That said, I've had the iPhone 11 as my work phone for a couple of months. I agree, it's way too big and unwieldy to hold. I would never buy one personally after being stuck with it. Which should make it an easy decision for me this autumn - iPhone 5.4" or discounted iPhone 11 Pro, if Apple cheaps out on the 5.4".

I was in AT&T today to pick up a new SIM for one of the grandkids’ iPads, and was looking at the Samsung phones. I’m not gonna lie - those screens with virtually no bezels look nice! IDK how handling them is, but they look pretty. I’m pretty much all in with Apple for the long haul, so I never really looked at those before today. Their watch looks pretty cool too - like that it’s round.

I went back and forth a bit, and my first 2 iPPs were 12.9s, but once I got my 11” iPP, I wasn’t really tempted to return it. I did try to find a use case for a mini 5, but in the end, I just couldn’t justify it, cute as it is.

You’re right though - not like it’ll last forever anyway (or even a year a lot of the time), but I do think all this insanity has made me really appreciate the idea of smaller phones again. I may not be able to use them forever because of my eyesight as I get older, but I think I’m gonna enjoy them while I can.

Honestly, I‘ve gotten 3 SEs in the last few months (two for my oldest 2 grandkids) for not much more than the cost of an 11 pro (one of them is gonna be $300 through AT&T with discounts, and the other 2 regular price from Apple, so for $100 extra bucks, I got THREE iPhones instead of one). And my grandkids think I’m the bomb, so that has to count for something, right? Lol

The good news is, that’s not happening til the fall anyway, so after the 12s are out I can reevaluate, and if an 11 pro is still in the running, that feature will be a plus!

I enjoy using Android, especially Samsung’s version, in tandem with my iPhone. I’ve only stopped using an iPhone fully just once, and that was for an HTC 10. Going without iMessage was difficult in the social circles I was in. Even when at one time half of the group were on Android phones.

Now the issue I face is Apple is doubling down on privacy protections at a time when Samsung is stepping up on inserting ads into the experience. They already are very heavily into collecting and feeding data about you to their many partners through features built into the OS like for example the Sephora camera filters that were on my S9+. They were fun but were a marketing tool that came baked into the feature set. I’m one to read the fine print and there’s a LOT about me as a consumer that they’re sharing with all these “partners” when I use certain features baked into my Samsung phones. It’s not quite as bad on my Pixels, but it’s there, too.

I don’t have the time at the moment to quite do justice to the differences between iOS and Android, but given your commitment to iOS, I think it suffices to say in my opinion you’re doing yourself a favor sticking to iOS, especially with Apple moving us in the direction of more choices for the hardware and greater customization within the OS, and better protection of our privacy.

Well I’m definitely drinking the Apple Kool-aid, so I don’t think changing platforms is in the foreseeable future. I just really like my devices to play nicely together, and that is always the case with Apple (at least for me).

My problem with the 11 was the thickness, the 7 plus was bigger than the 11 but felt a lot better.

I never had the feeling of a brick with any iphone until the XR/11/11Pro. The 11P is nicer beacuse is smaller and have thiner bezels, but the thickness and weight is really noticeable.

Hope the 5,4 is not that thick and heavy.

I had the iPhone 8. I would use it mainly on my days off , when I was out in the garden, small enough to keep in my pocket. What I didn’t like about it was I needed my reading glasses to do anything else with it, so I finally sold it, but it was a beautiful little red phone.
I also couldn’t make up my mind between the 11 and 11 pro max. I went to Apple store and bought the yellow 11, and then a week later changed it to the purple one, should have kept the yellow though. Then about 3 weeks later bought the silver 11 pro max. Sold the 11. That was beginning of March, still have 11 Pro Max.
I like your loopy case, but doesn’t it get in the way of wireless charging?
Doesn't seem like it might get in the way of wireless charging. Tempted to get one just to test unless someone has a loopy and has tried wireless charging. Although is there any metal? That could definitely mess it up.
