Will it still down sample / upsample all music to 16bit / 48 kHz?

If not - and it's able to play 24bit/96 Apple lossless I'm totally buying it.

I know I'm in minority, but this is would be the biggest plus for me.

Shows how much you know.

What's with the attitude?

First of all, people already do download for hours and switch games, myself included.

That is a very small segment of the market. Apple is not interested in small markets. Beyond that, with current titles approaching 20GB in size, there isn't even a way to fit them inside an ATV, much less re-fit them over and over again.

Dead Space repeatedly drops in price, Rage was free for crying out loud.

Only the iOS version of Rage, which is 18 lightyears from being AAA quality and but a small subset of the real game, was free. The full game was the normal $50+ pricing, until it hit the last-years-game discount bin.

Wireless Airplay Dongle- No way, would cannibalize appleTV sales.
New smart cover- Prob not, would have multiple product numbers
Stylus- No way they would do that to steve
Siri remote- maybe- make sense, but again wouldn't they want people to get an iDevice instead? And why not just have a mic on the aTV itself?

My guess for the new accessory- camera for appleTV. This event is all about video- retina display, 1080P, a TV camera makes sense. The only thing that makes me doubt it is the thought of plugging it into the aTV seems inelegant, and wireless doesn't make sense, but just about every product they make has a camera on it- why not appleTV? Starting a FaceTime call from your couch with Siri would be quite the demo- and a photo booth app could easily be thrown in. And if they open the aTV to 3rd party apps- camera just makes perfect sense. **** maybe it will have some kinect features as well, but prob not at $39.

The more I think about it the more I want it, just better have that green light on it so I know when its on.

New Apple remote(macbook air doesn't have IR either)
Stylus
New SmartCover colors
Thunderbolt->30 pin

Eh, none of those seem very likely. We would've seen a rumor or parts by now for those.

Anyone saying "stylus" at this point seriously hasn't been paying attention.

Yeah, it'd be great, but experience with the Wii bar and the Sony Eye (or whatever it's called) and the current ATV is that the darn things just don't sit still. There would need to be a way to fix its position relative to the display.

$39 accessory should be a bluetooth game controller for the games that come out with the introduction of the AppleTV AppStore.

I just hope that when Tim announces the new Apple TV tomorrow, that he also announces that its available immediately right after the show. No wait time please. :D

Will be stunned if it doesn't have 3rd-party apps. Last device not to have Apps that should, tv manufacturers are including them in their tvs, infrastructure is there, developers are ready, Apple want their cut, what's stopping it from happening?

Facetime HD camera integrated too?

Channel Apps are getting to be must especially in non-America.

Other things I'd like to see Upgraded Time Capsule with AppleTV embedded, and Apps so I can get content to the TV without having to use the iPad as a go between.

will it be finally able to play internet movie file formats, eg. xvid and mkv, like the many other competing media players?

LOL, even if it did, would you really want it?

Boxee Box is way better, its like having VLC for your TV. Apple TV compared to it is a pretty sad excuse.

prob gonna be a updated iPad 3 smart cover for $39

the current versions are the same price point

don't expect the accessory to be ATV related ;)

Smartcover with a 7" screen!

Edit: Lol I got marked down for this?! Oh, you guys... :shake head:

I would definitely buy this if it supported MKVs and higher def audio. I don't really want to re-encode everything for a $99 device thats going to probably get canned soon for a proper TV.

That said, any new ATV would indicate that they're not ready for a true TV yet as rumored-- it would imply that they plan on at least 6 months of ATV space.

This is probably temporary, and by that I mean this product will be discontinued. They're obviously working on the new Apple Television which will eventually replace the Apple TV.

No way they'd eol the set top box to offer a tv. Too many people already have televisions. It would be sheer hubris to try and generate revenue that way.

Siri Remote

Apple TV will include the same remote currently shipping.

Optional $39 Siri Bluetooth Remote for Apple TV. Can also use iPhone or iPad as Siri remote.

I really dig the idea of an Apple TV App Store. The introduction of an app store might give the ATV advantage enough to be bumped out of the hobby category. They'd own the set-top box market.

But Apple might not care to. Perhaps they'd rather push the use of airplay from iOS devices that are far more expensive than the ATV and just keep the box as an intermediary device.

Why buy an Apple TV, when an Xbox 360 for $50 more does 1080P, has netflix, youtube, facebook, twitter, Disney XD, music playback plus a lot more always coming.
Plus plays games. And dvd's. And dvds from a usb stick.

----------

Maybe a Kinect-like accessory so that AppleTV can hit the console market!

With the graphic power of what an ipod touch maybe?
