Looking forward to what ever is announced next week! Im still thinking 27" will get a refresh alongside the 4K 21.5"with new magic mouse and keyboard and updated internals. My Barclay Visa Card is ready
yep my Nationwide card is primed and charged ready for me to hit that buttonLooking forward to what ever is announced next week! Im still thinking 27" will get a refresh alongside the 4K 21.5"with new magic mouse and keyboard and updated internals. My Barclay Visa Card is ready![]()
I would honestly be surprised if there's no 27" update, especially considering the over 1-week delay for any BTO options. I don't think there are often rumors for refreshes/spec bumps, so it shouldn't be that troubling that there's no 27"-specific rumor. The 21.5" moving to 4k is a little bit more than a spec bump and more rumor-worthy, but that's just my personal analysis of this situation. So if the rumors are true (which they most likely are), then there is a new 21,5" iMac with a 4K display next week, but not a new 5K iMac? At least, if there is a 5K iMac aswell, then we would have most likely gotten some rumors about it too, would we? I just ask because I could still return my 5K iMac until tomorrow. But to me, it rather looks like there is no new 5K iMac next week, but rather sometime early next year or so.
Would be painful if I'm wrong, though.
I agree with this analysis. Also, we have seen code for GPUs like the M395X and I don't think we will see that in the 21.5" for heat and positioning reasons. So I expect a 27" update next week or not long afterwards.I would honestly be surprised if there's no 27" update, especially considering the over 1-week delay for any BTO options. * Although the spacings between these price points probably aren’t overly large, Apple is likely to go for four sub-$1999 models. In that case, I think that we may see two HD 6000 models or the continuation of the old 21.5" HD 5000 and Iris Pro 5200 models.
If the 21 inch gets a 4k display refresh and the 27 doesn't get its incremental love, that'd be odd.
The iPad mini got a refresh and the iPad Air 2 is the same. sometimes apple holds back a product when a big change is imminent.
Given Skylake and thunderbolt 3, the iMac may be due for a design change and the 27 is being held back for that.
I just hope they don't make it thinner. We need performance, proper cooling (and quiet), not a 3mm thin desktop.
Sometimes I don't get their decisions. I mean, instead of making the iPhone 3mm thinner, make the battery last 5 hours more for god's sake
The bezel will no doubt be reduced some day. But those are aesthetic changes, I'm talking actually useful changes, like a full fledged desktop GPU for example. Those can't come when they keep slimming the damn thing.I'd be happy for an iMac to be a little thicker at the back but if such a change was to happen (and I doubt it, for the record) I'd like to see the black bezel around the screen reduced a little, too. Maybe one day.

I don't think we are going to get a redesign until the end of next year or 2017. If the 4k iMac is introduced next week with the same form factor, I do not think the 27" inch will get a redesign until the earliest the end of next year. Apple wouldn't redesign the from factor of one and not the other IMO. So if the 4k iMac has the same form factor, I wouldn't hope for a redesign until atleast a year from now. I have no problem with the current design though, they can keep that for the next five years IMO.

If they were going to do yet another redesign, they would have done when they released the Retina 5K iMac. I think the Late 2012 is the redesign, and then dropped 5K in when it was ready. Heck, the Late 2012 iMac design was probably built to be ready for the 5K iMac from the beginning.

With GPUs like the AMD R9 Nano and the new GTX 980 for notebooks, desktop and laptop GPU performance seems to be merging as the chips get efficient enough. I suspect NVidia may drop the "M" moniker all together from their naming scheme in a generation or two.
