I was really hoping for a 21.5 inch with better specs. Will have to get the 27 inch instead. At least we can do the DIY RAM trick with the 27 inches, which will offset the extra cost a little.

Not sure whether the upgraded processors are worth it for video editing? I will be selling it within 2 years so no need to be future proof. Just need to be able to edit 4K video smoothly. Will of course be getting the top spec gpu. Unsure about the Fusion drive after hearing how little SSD is in it above (thanks).

IMHO disappointing.

- Still USB3, no type-C

This I find very disappointing since I got my 12" MacBook today and I was hoping I could use the same hub with the MacBook and iMac.

Like I said I think I will go for a used 2014 RiMac and upgrade when there are major I/O port changes. Probably there will be a redesign at the same time which might solve the heat issue with the graphics card.

late to the party after been following and wishing with all of you, woke up this morning and yay! they did skylake baby! time to order! :D :D

Seriously only Apple can add the Skylake processors and literally add nothing the people screaming for skylake were clamoring for.(TB3, DDR4, etc.) :p
It's kind of hilarious - especially when you compare this new "updated" model's I/O ports to something like the current market Mac Mini (which is Haswell lol):

Still going to buy, waited long enough and I'm glad it's not Broadwell! but you can totally tell an early 2016 refresh is gonna bring USB 3.1 and TB3. Suppose we still got the awesome new fast SSDs though so that softens the blow (up to 1800mb/s read apparently).

Just purchased:
27" iMac 4.0 GHz i7, 8GB RAM (will upgrade myself to 32GB), M395X, 512 SSD, Magic Trackpad 2
2x 2TB 2015 WD Passports (my old externals were still USB 2, so needed to upgrade those)
Will purchase the RAM once it's clear if existing RAM is compatible.

My previous Mac was a low end iMac from 2009. This should be a great upgrade... for $3660 total it better be ;_;

Instead of purchasing new external drives, you might have been able to open the case and move them into a USB 3 enclosure. Just suggesting this incase you didn't think of it.

To complete the joke, is the fact that Apple was first company to release USB-C in the first place. Apple made it look like they were ahead of the game when it came I/o. This update to Skylake pretty much shows the opposite.

Wait...

Faster and more powerful than ever, the new 27-inch iMac with Retina 5K display now comes with sixth-generation Intel Core processors

6th gen = Skylake

21.5" model will use 5th gen = Broadwell

Hate to be the idiot here, but for whatever reason, the RAM in the new Skylake is apparently "1867MHz," everywhere else I look for the after-market RAM has "1866." Would the 1866MHz RAM work with this? I'd really like to get the 8GB of RAM for the maxed out 27 inch and upgrade it to 32 afterwards, I just don't wanna spend the ridiculous $600 for that RAM upgrade.

Well the 21.5" model doesn't seem that appealing to me.

Especially with the integrated GPU

I think I'm going with a 2TB fusion drive, it comes with a 128gb Solid State Drive to store most Apps and the O.S and the rest is a spinning drive for files. Would going to an all Solid State Drive show that big of an improvement to warrant another 200 bucks? I will be mostly working in the Adobe Creative Suite.

Can anyone tell me if all 3 of the 27" in the US store are Skylake? As I'm running through the numbers, I may not need the full blown i7 system, I could probably get by with the low end 27" until a later refresh. But want to be sure I'm going with the latest processor.

Typo from Apple, the JEDEC DDR3 standard is 1866 MHz

That's a major typo then, considering they're putting it everywhere across the line. :p But thanks for that.

I'll look for some RAM… I'm replacing a mid-range 2008 iMac with a Core 2 Duo processor and 4GB of 800MHz DDR2 RAM..this will be a *HUGE* difference.

Anybody know how long after a mac launch personal pickup / ship to store becomes available again?

Why is everyone so hyped about this released? Apple seems to become more lazy with every update.
