The Bestbuy model they list is the base model retina iMac ccording to the model number.

I get the same results for different models, including the 21.5". If they aren't available now, it says "Available Wed, Sep 30".

We might get a refresh on 9/30 with El Capitan! That sure would be nice!

That would be nice indeed; would be still in the time window to return my current 5K iMac that I ordered last week.

However, isn't it also possible that BestBuy is simply holding off until the 30th of September, so that the iMacs can be shipped with El Capitan preinstalled? I'm not saying there aren't any new iMacs anytime soon, but the rumors and leaks rather suggested a new 21,5" 4K iMac being announced during the course of October, and being available in November, so it would rather surprise me if there is an announcement this month already.

First post from the new (refurb) 5k. yay. So far the only real problem has been getting parallels installed and windows 10 installed. Parallels can't find the usb bootable drive I created this morning. I just ordered a bootable version on the microsoft store. It'll just have to wait until it gets here. So far so good!

That was my thought also....time will tell.

FWIW...

I inquired online with Apple about my current Retina order and the return policy.......
They said I have 14-days to return with no questions asked.....they wondered why I was asking?

When I mentioned a possible refresh on 9/30 of the 27" Retina they were adamant this was not going to happen.
We'll see...

I thought refreshes were completely under wraps, even from store employees, tech support and the rest. The only true leaks we get are from factory orders and such. Sometimes we get a hint the night before.

Yea, I dunno...

Either telling the truth or dishing BS.......I'd bet on the latter.

There is no way a tech support person would know that.

That said, don't get your hopes up for 9/30.

While usually nice people, most of the employees don't know squat about any of the refreshes besides the super obvious ones like the iPhone or iPad which are only two devices that Apple updates like clock work. Considering how on-point the rumors were about the last keynote(I mean every SINGLE rumor came true at the last keynote down to SMALLEST detail) you'd do better believing something from Macrumors than any of the employees.

IMO, Best Buy all of a sudden going out of stock with availability not until the day of El Cap's release is no coincidence. This is literally a perfect storm for a silent refresh.

With intel announcing the Skylake roadmap, how likely would a Skylake 27" iMac be in Fall 2015, probable announcement October?

Would it be a big improvement?
With most of the chips out now, there is that possibility, but we can't be sure of Apple's plans. If and when the new desktops and laptops are released, with the exception of the latest MBAs and the 13" rMBP that already have Broadwell processors, Apple will be skipping from Haswell straight to Skylake, which will be giving us ThunderBolt3 support and at least one USB-C port.

Additionally for laptops there'll be battery-life improvements due to Broadwell's die shrink from 22nm to 14nm (tick). From what I've read, Skylake's (tock, and 14nm also) battery-life improvements over Broadwell are not as dramatic as the Haswell to Broadwell transition gave the latest MBAs and the 13" rMBP, but overall the new Skylake processors will still yield some battery-life improvement and are more powerful than the Broadwell chips.

Personally I'm excited about Skylake's ThunderBolt3 support (will those long awaited new TB Monitors finally materialize now?) and the new USB-C port(s).

Just honestly passing on what they said during my conversation, neither you or I know if this is true or not.

I hear of no other rumors that they are updating the 27" retina on 9/30, other than someone showing BB not having any to sell until then. Sounds more like them holding off on selling any so El Capitan machines can be sold, than any refresh to me.

But hey, we'll we'll all find out if the Apple people were speaking the truth in about 1-week.

That just might be true about waiting so they're just sold with El Cap. I was looking at some of the Macbook Pros, and it's kind of the same thing with some of the stores not having availability until the 30th.

True, but let's not act like there were rumors for every damn silent refresh. I remember when the Late 2013 iMacs came, it literally caught everyone off guard. If the Apple Store employees are right it is purely due to luck and nothing else.

Dates for the Mac Mini at Best Buy say the same, available 9/30. I've lost hope for something big that day other then El Capitan.

I'll still wake up that morning and check MacRumors first thing though, but I don't have high hopes!

The 980 for notebooks has been released: http://www.geforce.com/hardware/notebook-gpus/geforce-gtx-980

No difference to the Desktop 980 in terms of specs, could fit into an iMac - The 2012 iMac had a 680MX.

Holy mother of...

If Apple released an iMac with this chip the iMac would literally beat most Windows PCs out there. Knowing NVidia though, this chip is going to cost a fortune. Even if Apple were to actually put this in the iMac, it'd be $500 BTO. You'd be looking at $3000 iMac minimum.

Apple will say humans will never need more GPU power than is found in the current iMac, like they once said nobody wants a bigger iphone since their thumb won't stretch across the screen.

Then, late next year, or the year after, as thumb-length became a non-issue with the iPhone in years past, Apple will say humans suddenly need more GPU power and will offer a long over-due update to the iMac, touting it as "the best iMac Apple has ever released" ... while the pc world is light-years ahead.

So does anyone have any insight as to when the new Skylake iMacs will be released? Some are saying 2016, though I was expecting Apples 9th event to be the unveiling. I literally sold all my Macs to fund the purchase of a new iMac, and was banking on the iPhone event to announce th refresh. Of course I have a backup, my iPad. But I'm really hoping to pickup a Skylake Mac soon.
And so, what will it be next year? Everybody waiting for purchase for Cannondale.

I have been waiting quite some time for the new riMAC, hopefully we will see the following updates:

a. Skylake processors
b. 512 SSD as standard
c. Better AMD/NVidia gpu
d. El Capitan OSX with lots of improvements
e. It'd be nice to see faster memory, or more memory as standard but I don't see it coming

Please Apple take my money, lol:D

The main reason why I've not pressed the buy button yet is the SSD issue.

I'm not that bothered about Skylake although Target display on the RiMac would be good and give a degree of future proofing with thunderbolt 1.3.

The current graphics seem fine and should run the next instalment of StarCraft 2 which is about the only game I'm interested in.

El Capitan is definitely going to happen soon.

I'm not even that bothered about memory as long as it's still a user upgradeable part.

However as I am likely to go for a 512gb SSD as a storage option I would be extremely annoyed if as part of the refresh the SSD options became 512GB, 1TB and 2TB after I'd just spent good cash getting the 512GB upgrade.

And that isn't completely out of the question.

What issue is that? Care to elaborate?
It may only be an issue to me ;)

But as we know the pure HDD is living on borrowed time. I would not be surprised if the next iMac refresh did away with the HDD completely and forced either the fusion or SSD options on to us for all models.

Combined with the fact that SSD pricing has dropped through the floor over the last 12 months I think there is a very real chance that the SSD options on iMacs will drop the 256gb SSD and make the base choice 512GB.

I'd rather wait and see right now.
