Purchased a 5k iMac a couple days ago with maxed out CPU and GPU. Increased RAM to 16GB and kept the 1TB Fusion drive.

Waiting to see if they release a refreshed version with El Capitan. I'm nervous about the current maxed out GPU after reading some posts and watching some videos. Mainly heat issues. I'd like Skylake and a new GPU for obvious reasons, so hoping they roll out a refresh, but think I'll keep my new 5k and cross my fingers if nothing is announced.

Come on Sept 30th!!!

My advice, after consulting a few 'Apple' people: If you need one now, buy one NOW. I see the prices for second hand iMac's going up (and seriously up). I see in Belgium that Skylake CPU's are in stock... Do I have to say more? There's no lack of CPU's...

What will you do after Skylake when Cannondale is on the market? Change?
Buy yourself a good machine now and be happy with it.

Agree 100%

Just got my 27" Retina iMac and loving it......no regrets whatsoever.
There will always be something new coming along......any minor changes won't affect the majority of users anyway, just maybe the high-end users.

btw - My brand new iMac has no issues with Apple maps or Google earth or anything else, as noted previously.....maybe a refurb glitch that Apple never caught?
Just one reason I don't like refurb anything.

Best Buy has iMacs on SALE! Another good sign! Clearing out the old?!??

The stars seem to be aligning. I feel like Apple will refresh the 27 when they release the 4K 21 iMac to keep it competitive heading into the holiday season. And also to keep the two models compatible; I highly doubt the new 4K will have Haswell and older GPU.

Really a shame with the current GPU options in the 5k. Older tech in the base models and fire hot (literally) chip in the maxed out model.

Maybe not, but it's still more than double of prices elsewhere.

the SSD you get is also faster that most SSD you buy. So it's expensive but it's also higher quality. Would be nice if they offered normal SSD vs premium.

agreed, many are comparing the custom PCI-express blades to budget sata-3 drives. There can be quite appreciable differences.

Also waiting for a skylake Imac, long over due an upgrade.

You are a good 8 months away from Skylake Macs (willing to eat these words if I'm wrong).

Again, I don't see why Apple can't do it if ASUS can?
I think you cannot compare two companies with different strategies to sell.
Apple has a lot in the pipeline: iPhone, Ipadpro, Apple TV, El Capitan, Apple Music etc
I'm sure they're skipping Broadwell. So: new MB and more stuff if they'll switch to Skylake.
For those who really need a new machine: Buy now a good machine and you'll be happy with it.

I can occasionally find some BTO 6700k towers, but so far no evidence of any mass produced all in one, laptop, or even regular desktop that is shipping with a Skylake chip. Even broadwell chips seem to be in short supply still.

Man, i hope the naysayers are wrong. I cannot wait 8 months. I am very interested in the Lenovo P50 skylake laptop and those are supposed to be available to order in October. I need both a new desktop and laptop. About to be laying down some big time cash. Got both of my current models in 2010.

You need to stagger your purchases. ;)

Hi, I'm not sure why you need to wait. The P50/P70 will feature xeon class processors which will never be part of any Macbook line. You either need that processing power or not. If you need it, the only way to get it is to get a Mac Pro.
I, like you, still hope that they refresh everything. Apple is uneven with their product refresh.

If there's going to be a refresh on the 30th, shouldn't the Apple store show limited supply of the current models? I thought that had always been one of the indications of an imminent refresh.

That's what I mentionned in an earlier post: the prices for an old model according to Mac2sell.net are going up!
There's NO limited supply and delivery dates are normal...
For the moment Apple is focussing on the release of El Capitan and iPad Pro

At this point, if there's going to be a release this October I suspect we'll see the "new" badge disappear from the low-end 27" iMac on the official store. That — at least — is going to be my canary for a purchase next month. If it disappears when El Capitan drops, I'll wait a few weeks to see if an is announced.
