It most likely means nothing but if I BTO/customise any part (cpu/SSD/gfx) of either 27" 5k model in the Australia store, stock now says shipping in 4-6 business days. Adding *any* extra ram takes it to 5-7 days, same with some of the HD options.

For context, I haven't seen them more than 1-3 days in the last month... Only one random config was once 2-4.

(Pllllleeeeeaaaassseee let this mean something!)

for the mini 2012, it went from days to weeks at some point and meant nothing.. They could shift inventories around if they wanted and the current numbers probably mean nothing.

I would be more than happy to see a refresh! :)

Same story for the UK store with the 21 inch models. It also happens if you change any of the parts on the 27 inch model.

I can occasionally find some BTO 6700k towers, but so far no evidence of any mass produced all in one, laptop, or even regular desktop that is shipping with a Skylake chip. Even broadwell chips seem to be in short supply still.
Apple sells what, 20m Macs in a year. Out of which iMacs are probably 1-2m at best. They wouldn't need to produce more than a few 100k initially.

And we are talking about announcement, not the actual release. If they announce them in October I'm willing to wait till November ;)

As much as I want a refresh tomorrow, I don't see it coming..

Im waiting to buy an iMac as well.. Hopefully it will be sometime in October..

I wouldn't be surprised to see Broadwell chips n the 21.5 inch iMacs because they are drop in replacements for the chips in there now and the integrated graphics can handle 4K. With the amount of planning necessary for a new chipset and processor, I can't see a Skylake iMac any time this year. Especially since the graphics chips and processor in the high end iMac really are quite capable right now and performance gains would be minimal. We might see resdesigns mid to late next year across the lines that integrate Skylake chips including the laptops and iMacs. I do hope the rumors of better screens (increased color depth) are true and all signs do point to an imminent refresh.

I'd even take broadwell in a 27", myself. Just something to improve the energy/temperature efficiency (if it offers that, anyway...)

That's a good point. We need to stop thinking that a new Mac launch is as massive as a new iPhone.

I suspect that Apple and other large customers have had sample Skylake chipsets for some months already - any planning for the new architecture is probably complete. The only question would be getting hold of production quantities.

Did you guys see anything pointing at a refresh today? It's been a bit too quiet I'm afraid.
Store's still open in the UK. The only odd thing is that they are out of stock of two of the standard 21.5" configurations. I still expect announcement mid-end October with ordering end of November for delivery around the end of the year.

Finnish Store is even worse. Not is it only open, but they have everything in stock and a quick delivery!

Your timeline sounds believable and also similarly to the last couple years or so.

FWIW...
I inquired online with Apple about my current Retina order and the return policy.......
They said I have 14-days to return with no questions asked.....they wondered why I was asking?

When I mentioned a possible refresh on 9/30 of the 27" Retina they were adamant this was not going to happen.
We'll see..
.

Seems Apple support people may know more than we give them credit for?

Say it with me: l-u-c-k. Luck.

If nothing happens this week, I'll probably just start buying parts for a gaming PC or look at refurbs. I'm going to need something more than my 6770M iMac before Star Wars Battlefront launches.

That's your opinion only..........
I give them credit, where credit is due.

They were 100% correct....

They don't know anything about unannounced releases.

Watch, I can do it too:

Apple will not announce iPhone 7 on October 1, 2015.

Tomorrow you'll have proof that I'm an Apple insider!

How childish....

Believe what you want....Fact is you don't know if they knew anything or they didn't, now do you?
Do you work for Apple to make such comments?
Denial...

I asked them a specific question...........They said there was no update coming to the iMac line on 9/30 when I spoke to Apple tech support concerning my iMac order. There is no reason why would they say such rather than we don't know.
I give credit where credit is due and have more of an open mind than some of you....

Fact is fact, they where correct. More than I can say for most on this thread. ;)

Skylake Iris Pro CPU will not be released until 2016 so don't look for those in the iMac until next year. They may use updated Broadwell this year for a refresh. Intel does have updated Broadwell desktop chips available.

They could possibly update iMacs with discreet graphics with Skylake but I don't see that happening with out the whole line up being updated with the same generation processor.

Highly doubt they would be refreshing the 5k iMac today. So the AppleCare person would be correct in that regard. BUT, I wouldn't be surprised to see an update in October with shipping dates in October or November.

To wait, or not to wait. Ugh. Really want updated internals because of heat concerns.

Are there documented heat concerns with the 290X GPU, or is it just the 295X GPU?

I ordered a 5k iMac but will be sending it back unopened (arrives today) because I've changed my mind on the configuration. I want:

i7 CPU
16GB RAM
290X GPU
512 SSD

Thinking I'll hang on to that one and hope for no heat issues if they don't update the line in October. I don't play computer games and don't use hardcore apps very often. Just mostly web browsing (for work and pleasure), word/excel processing, video watching, and using statistical analysis programs. Sometimes I use Adobe Lightroom.

I was really hoping they'd release an updated *something* today, which would give me the go/no-go on a purchase. I guess I'll wait a little longer to figure out what's up. Though if I were you I'd just buy the 8GB RAM, BTW. It's much, much cheaper to jump to 16 or 32 after market.
