Has anyone tried disabling the ultrasn0w mobile substrate plugin through sbsettings? I'm on 2.x.... baseband and disabled it, and my reception bars still work. So for anyone who is just preserving the 1.59.00 baseband but doesn't need an unlock, this might remove the unwanted effects of ultrasn0w.

Good idea.
If anyone still has VV and MMS problems try this above and see if it fixes things?

scratch my previous idea. After you reboot the phone, it goes back down to only 1 bar. I guess the automatic respring doesn't affect it when you toggle the plugin.

No idea:)
It just popped up after a random restart.
But even though that menu option came on everything seems to be working fine so Im keeping my fingers crossed that it doesnt give me any more headaches:)

Well it looks like my carrier option just came back and it brought my vvm and mms problems back along with it:(. I have no idea how or why it came back (I noticed it after a respring but I'm not sure if that triggered it), but I'm not happy about it at all. I really hope the dev team updates ultrasn0w because there is clearly something wrong with it.

Does anyone have issue with the battery draining with this new Ultrasn0w 1.2.1?

My battery was a lot better when I was on 4.2.1, BB 2.10.04, draining about 5% for an overnight.

I just updated to 4.3.1 , BB 2.10.04, last night and I had to install this Ultrasn0w 1.2.1 in order to fix the signal issue even if I use Gevey SIM. Now, it drains 25% for the overnight. All the apps are the same b/t the 4.2.1 and 4.3.1, RemoveBG, Fakeclockup, Multifl0w, Lockinfo and SBSettings.

I probably just downgrade back to 4.2.1 later today.

+1 on the dev team updating to fix the issue.

I've removed ultrasn0w for now. For something that is strictly a cosmetic fix (at least for me and other people who have the old bb but are still on AT&T), it introduces way too many problems.

Same. These issues have been around since 4.0 though and the devteam doesn't seem to be willing to acknowledge the issues publically... So idk. I wish we knew what ultrasn0w does to fix the bars so that someone could just create a separate package

I agree. These VVM and MMS problems have existed on the iPhone 4 since the initial release of ultrasn0w for the 01.59.00 baseband, and it's puzzling why they are still present. The dev team has to know about them. Perhaps they feel that the ability to unlock trumps any side problems that it causes.

For people who actually need the unlock, I'm sure it does. For people like me who maintain a lower baseband solely to increase resale value (or for the outside chance that I travel somewhere that requires me to use my phone on a different carrier), ultrasn0w has proven to be problematic. I actually had not installed ultrasn0w on my iphone 4 until recently because I recall it draining my battery and causing problems with vvm and mms when I installed it on my 3gs (didn't need the unlock then either). I assumed that enough time had passed that those issues would have been worked out by now but that is clearly not the case. I guess I'm going to have to wait for them to fix ultrasn0w or hope that someone comes up with a fix that solely addresses the problem with the signal display.

For people that unlock to use the phone on other carriers, does vvm even work on those other carriers?

No, VV is only offered on official carriers with an iphone data plan.
Unofficial carriers just get regural dial in voicemail.

What about MMS then? Do unlockers on "unofficial" carriers have to do anything special to send/receive MMS once they unlock with ultrasn0w? Any manual configuration required?

Yes, MMS works it just needs manual configuration and server settings to be inputed.

Hmmmm. I'm wondering if maybe it's by design then that VVM and MMS don't work for those of us on official carriers. Either way, I can't use this if my vvm and mms are going to just disappear on me without warning. Huge problem for me and I'm sure for many others as well.

Works for me!

iPhone 4. 4.3.1. BB 1.59

VVM works
MMS works
FaceTime works both WiFi and My3G
Full bars

Rebooted

Still all working!

It seems nothing is working to try to save the battery after trying to hard reset, turn-off and turn-on after a full charge, install SAM.

I'm finishing up putting 4.2.1 back now. Let see if my battery is as good as before I mess up with the 4.3.1 in the morning.

Here's what DHLizard from the iPhone Dev Team blog posted to a person having the same problems were are having with UltraSn0w:

Remove Ultrasn0w, then reboot the phone. Check MMS, FaceTime and Visual Voicemail. When they are all working, re-install Ultrasn0w using the specific instructions in Update #2 which means you DO NOT push the Restart Springboard button, you turn off the phone instead.

I'll give it a try tomorrow and see if it works.

HPLouis can you please post a link to specific instructions on how to properly install ultrasnow??? I keep loosing my unlock functionality on my 3gs running 4.3.1 with 06.15 baseband. I have tried everything and no luck.

Did u use tinyumbrella & restore to 4.2.1?
Was there any difficulties going back?

Nope, I just use the tinyumbrella and restore using itune. At the end, you get the error 1013, put into the DFU mode and then run the greenpois0n.

Finally got MMS (and presumably VVM) to work w/ ultrasn0w installed. In my case removing and reinstalling the SIM card seemed to do the trick. Let's see if it stays

Anyone else on AT&T with a Microcell and on 1.59.00 baseband? I downloaded Ultrasn0w to fix the bars - and was having signal issues - but it seemed only when on the Microcell. It would have full bars one moment - and then 'No Service' the next.

Once I unplugged the Microcell - it was fine.

I am having the exact same problem & was thinking may be I need to start from scratch and set up as a new phone rather than restoring from a backup!!

When I went from 4.3.1 to 4.2.1 itunes told me my software was too old to restore afterwards so I had to set it up as a new phone, then it would sync my contacts, music, apps, videos. I lost my sms, network settings, email etc. It was worth having to set it up again to have 4.2.1 back though. If you're used to how responsive 4.2.1 you can really feel the slowness 4.3.1 has.

On 4.3.1 with 01.59.00, without Ultrasn0w installed I have no signal at all. None. I can't even make phone calls. With it installed, I have no VVM or FaceTime or MMS.

Sticking with 4.2.1 which works flawlessly.
