Purchased an 11" Haswell Air 4 days ago. Where is the iWork up to date program for recent purchases?

I just spoke with an online Apple rep and they said the iWork prices didn't change for Mac OS.:confused:

If you don't already own the new versions they are $19.99 each. They come free with a new Mac. But once you get a new Mac, they are free to download on any other Mac using your Apple ID (it worked the same way with iOS devices).

On the plus side you can use iWork on iCloud.com for free!

It says iLife updates are free for current users. I updated to Mavericks and it still wants to charge me 14.99 each for iPhoto and iMovie. Anyone else having this issue?

So what about us who installed iWork '09 via DVD? iTunes doesn't recognize the install and requires a $20 "upgrade" fee?

EDIT: Read more comments, so DVD installs will be recognized. That's great news. Seems Apple is pushing more hardware sales by offering free updates. I remember the Leopard/Snow Leopard/etc fiasco, requiring users to qualify for the lower price 10.6 update by "providing proof" of the necessary previous OS X purchase.

iMovie kept the old version 9.0.9 on my computer even after it updated. Weird

That is what it seems to look like as of right now sadly

installed mavericks, now I can't open iphoto 9.2.3:eek:

You must update iPhoto to the latest version

YEAH! iWork is free upgrade also for people with iWork 09 thank you Apple.

Yes if you purchased it from the Mac app store.

So I have iLife '11 from when I bought my computer back in mid-2010.

I assume I will need to buy the MAS versions to now stay in the update loop? Or is that a bug and those in my situation will be getting the updates soon? It doesn't make any sense to buy the same iPhoto '11 again when I have it right now on my computer.

FINALLY. Native AVCHD that actually works. iMovie can even do real-time color correction and enhancement directly on the AVCHD assets without transcoding. All happens instantly on my Mac Mini.

I'm impressed!

Free for all new Macbooks. Just like iLife is free for all new iDevice purchase starting Sept 1st

MAS version only. Apple can't track your DVD purchase especially if someone had passed around the disk.

He's talking about updates. Updates are free if you have the MAS versions. I've heard people who called Apple say that the DVD installed versions get the free updates too (there's just a bug that doesn't let them update at the moment).

(edit: just read the previous comments.. read, read, and don't feed the trolls)

I emailed Apple Support under Mac App Store/Updating Mac Apps to give me a refund since I have a cd version of iWork '09 already and bought the new one and now they are fixing it so it gets updates

is that the right place to ask?

How do u get iWork 09 from DVD installs to update

Patience. Apple is fixing the bug.

Yes but I would have waited until you actually update the DVD version before emailing them.

Thank you, that is okay, I understand that -- but I just want to make sure that me buying iPhoto '11 from the MAS right now will simply over-write my current version of iPhoto, or will there be 2 copies?

Anyone know what happens?

They made a huge deal in the keynote about making this stuff for free because they want to get this great software into everyone's hands.
It's a free update if you bought the same version on the MAS but not if you purchased on DVD because there was no MAS at the time? That doesn't make sense.

Tried to fire up a podcast project in the new Garageband. Unfortunately, for some reason, Apple has decided to no longer support podcast creation! You get an alert asking you to open it in 6.0.5 instead. Where's the love for podcasters??? Wow! Yet another slap to free media creators. Guess I'll be moving to something else. Any suggestions?
This is VERY disappointing. Apple had a chance to make huge strides in this area and have completely failed.

I use WireTap Anywhere from AmbrosiaSW to create audio sources from Skype and my own microphone and put them in to GB to record my podcasts. I also stream out the audio live via Mixlr.

Well, Ambrosia never upgraded Wire Tap Anywhere to work on Lion or Mt. Lion. They said they would over the past 2 years but never did. Now they have gone belly up and there is no one left to update that great software.

So in order to have complete control over my podcast recording and simultaneous live stream I must have a dual boot system. I run 10.6.8 on a partition so I can use GB, WTA and Mixlr seamlessly together to do a great podcast/broadcast.

I was hoping that Apple would keep the podcasters in mind when upgrading GarageBand. I really wanted some cool capabilities added. First and foremost I wanted to be able to send audio from Skype, Safari and iTunes (or any other application) directly to Garageband on separate tracks like I do now on my dual boot system. Seeing that they have completely removed podcasting from the App, I am pretty damn pissed!

I guess I will have to stick with a dual boot system for now. If my 2009 24' iMac ever goes up in flames, I will be pretty much screwed.

I don't get where people think because they bought an app (iWork) 4 or 5 years ago they think they are entitled to a free upgrade now. When the Mac App Store first started Apple did say that if you wanted free future upgrades you would need to purchase the app in the mac app store, just like in iPhone/iPad users have been doing.

I just spent the $75 to upgrade my versions of Numbers, Keynote, Pages and iPhoto. I have been using all of those apps since getting my Mac in 2011. Back then I had to buy the Work on a disc, and the iPhoto I believe came on an iLife disc in the box. I never use Garageband or iMovie, so I have no interest in it. I thought I would have to pay to upgrade to Mavericks like I did with Lion and Mountain Lion. Guess what it was free. If iWork wasn't upgraded I would most likely have went with Office for Mac via the Office 365 Subscription at $99 a year. Since upgrading iWork and playing a little with it, Guess what no need for Excell, Work and Powerpoint. So here I was ready to spend about $130 to get Office and Maversicks and all I ended up spending was $75.

In the past with Windows you would spend a whole hell of a lot more to upgrade Windows or Office and nobody seemed to care. Apple's software is far superior, yet it costs a lot less. And you people still complain. Suck it up and get it on the MAS and you won't have to worry about it again. Quit thinking that something you got 2-5 years ago entitles you to a perpetual free upgrade already.
