I'm backing up my phone. Takes friken forever. Anyway, then I'll install and pray that activation works ;). I won't be home tomorrow and need my phone.

Photo Tagging

I upgraded to the 2.0 firmware yesterday, and was pleasantly surprised to find that although it isn't GPS, I was still getting live tracking when i was getting directions on my maps. Is this just because of the version that I downloaded? Is anyone with the official 2.0 software getting the tracking on the original iPhone?

Not only that but I also get the option to tag photo's taken with the iPhone with the current location. If these two features are not in the 1,1_2.0 version I'm sticking with the 1,2_2.0 version. Even though I don't have the 3g version, I like the functionality for my two original iPhones.

Also, I have not experienced the problems people are reporting for the 1,2_2.0 version. Maybe I'm just lucky?;)

I'm going from "unofficial" to "Official" right now. I too will be pissed if those two features aren't there. I'll let you know shortly .....

I heard someone in another post say this did not work for them. Since screenshots are kind of a developer necessity I'm wondering if this was unique to the leaked software. For the time being I think I'm going to stick with what I have, but anyone knows of any features not in the official version I would be interested in hearing about it.

just updated to official 2.0 on original iphone
screenshot function is in tact

So the firmware from yesterday still had the debug code in it...finally, some credence to all the rumors that usually surround a GM software release and whether or not the final build still has any nefarious "debug code" left in it.

Thanks Jersey, also let me know if you see any speed increase (even though it seems fast enough as it is)

yesterday's code was better, and more feature rich, I put the official one on, now no more GPS tracking.

I'm glad the link to the correct update has been posted. I have been getting the strangest error message when I try to do a restore. Anyone else experience this message or know whether it might be related to the unofficial 2.0 firmware?

I finally got this to work by rebooting my machine, then hitting the restore button. It is downloading the correct version now.

Hope that helps.

Hey can anybody direct me? I've been looking all over for a discussion on what to do or expect upgrading a jailbroken 1.1.4 iPod Touch to 2.0. This is the closest discussion I've found to it. f anybody knows if there is a similar thread on the Touch, i'd appreciate it. I'll take a redirect and leave this thread alone, but I'd love to know if I need to back up, un-jailbreak, restore to the original un-jailbroken 1.1.4, wait a week, whatever. Or maybe I don't have to worry about anything, which is why nobody is talking about it.

Any advice would be awesome. Thanks!

Oh, yeah, jailbroken with Pwnage tool, and not in a big rush to jailbreak again (maybe in a couple weeks, I want to see if general performance is better)

Mine has completed the update and activated in seconds (in the UK).
Just doing a restore of the backup now and then the reloading of all my content!

Seemed to work OK with the 3G version OK on my original phone, but glad to have the 'right' version now.

same here. :( I would be mad.

FWIW:

BOTH 5A347 builds are OFFICIAL and release versions of the iPhone software.

The 1,2 version that you all installed yesterday is intended for use on the 3G iPhone. The 1,1 version that came online today is for the original iPhone.

If you do a restore with iTunes with the iPhone 3G, it downloads.. you guessed it, iPhone1,2_2.0_5A347_Restore.ipsw

If you do a restore with the original iPhone, it downloads... guess what? iPhone1,1_2.0_5A347_Restore.ipsw

So, yes, the "tracking" feature in maps is only intended for the GPS enabled 3G phone and is NOT in the 2.5G firmware.

BTW, apple frequently uses the #,# (Eg, 1,1) designation to signify different hardware models.. for example, my macbook pro has the model identifier: MacBookPro2,2

and I figured as such. That's no good. Maps was more accurate on the 3G build. Darn you apple!!!

Well I'm going to keep my "leaked" f/w until I have problems. The tracking is sweet, even if it does eat a little more battery. I haven't had any other problems

what is this "map tracking" that you speak of?

It tracks as you go down the streets of a city using wifi and cell signals. On the official firmware you gave to manually press the locate me button and that is not live. I hope apple adds that in. It's really anice feature...

guess what, my 1st gen phone is working fine, tracking, and I'm not going to up/down grade until I have a real problem. This is marketing at work folks. There were any major hardware changes to the 3G other than battery managment, bigger memory, and a GPS radio. So I'm sticking with the 3G firmware until I have a real issue. I for sure saw 2 sets of firmware from yesterday, now only 1. What I can remember was M85 and N82. Now N82 is missing is the official size is smaller.

I am to. Nice try, Apple.
