Just as an update: the replacement arrived yesterday from Polysoft, and indeed the new 8TB drive doesn’t make any noise. Finally… time to enjoy my new storage space.
Only slightly behind their original Feb timeline you mentioned too, and it’s nice to know they can provide replacements when called for, makes me a bit less wary about any potential future warranty coverage 🤞

Not sure if anybody else noticed but there is a new update dated March 13 —nice to see more-frequent delivery info posts:

Unfortunately shipping speeds continue to slip; compared with the update on the 2nd when 424 total kits has shipped, they are now up to 440, so 16 additional kits shipped in ~8-10 working days 🫤

Well they don't appear to be catching up and are falling even further behind as they may be getting orders at a higher rate than they can deliver. I have tried to cancel mine with no response to date and am having to go the CC dispute route. I feel sad about the situation because I really wanted to get the kit from Polysoft so they get rewarded for coming up with the idea/design and shared it but the operational execution seems to be catastrophic.

I specifically wrote i want a human written response in my message, but i also got the same copy paste bull, in french for some reason. i placed my order in late january and back then nand prices wasn't as high as now. the "competitors sell for 1500" thing now is an infuriating excuse. they knew prices were going up but didn't adjust the price on their website and they either need to honor the purchase at the price i ordered and paid for, or refund the money. if they knew they were going to be unable to keep up with orders they should have removed the option to preorder and pay upfront much earlier.

Cher Lily,

gilles
edit: i knew i'd have to wait a couple months but as i'm nearing 3 i'm starting to be uncomfortable. Why isn't any employees from Polysoft in here reassuring people or giving some form of update, especially since they have a link to this thread on their own website.

Well just successfully installed mine from Ali. Got a bit confused by the markings on the box indicating it is for an M3 but for this size, luckily M3 and M4 are interchangeable. The set of screwdrivers they through in is for iPhones and were useless for the Mac Studio. The one screwdriver inside the nand package itself on the other hand is exactly the same one as the ones provided by polysoft. The instruction sheet looks also identical. The flash cards were delivered in a box looking like it is a commercially developed product with configuration of the content labeled with tick marks on the box and the entire box is sealed wrapped. I was impressed and it ended up costing me less than from polysoft. The cards look completely identical to the polysoft ones save for the polysoft silkscreen on the pcb….

Hmm interesting... the 8tb kit I received are Hynix HN3T3 and the seq. write speed on it is close to 10GBps while the read stayed at a disappointing 5.5GBPs.

My original 512GB were ~5.5GBps/5.2GBps (Kioxia K5A3)

Was away on a trip, and suppose we've made some progress? ... here's and update since my last.

On march 5th Polysoft creates a shipping label for my address, I get notified by UPS...

Not sure why I got this, but it was a tease... just like the status of the package...

Like other's have reported I was also contacted on March 11th, however my message differed slightly, with a slightly different first line,

1774047097019.png

On March 13th, I get an email from Polysoft that my order is now in processing...
1774047256494.png

However... a week has passed now, and no updates to tracking, no random unexpected packages yet either 🙁

Today is day 120, 4 Months and 20 days 🔥

@mobutils wow, you got a tease from UPS? The thing was on the way? How does that work? How could UPS tracking show that it was on the way when they had nothing?
For all the others who are looking at the AliExpress path, it seems all the prices have gone up this week. I had submitted another order but the seller told me he was out of stock and asked me to cancel… only to find out that he increased his price on the 8tb kit by $300.

I ordered an 8TB M4 Max kit 1/23/26, showed backordered and then paid the same day, received the same message as @mobutils on 3/11 (but for M4), UPS label was created 3/13/26 but UPS does not have the item. Last update to my order status is still "Payment accepted" on 1/23, status has not been updated to "Processing in progress." Ordered an 8TB kit from upgradessd.com yesterday at $1099, received email today stating item is in stock and will ship within 24 hours and delivery (from Shenzen) likely to be 10-13 days.

Yeah, no status updates and everything still appears out of stock, but prices have been heavily revised upward, and there seems to be a whole new Mac Mini M4 section: https://shop.polysoft.fr/en/11-mac-mini-upgrades

If they can’t fulfill orders for a less-than-mass-market product like the Mac Studio in a timely manner it makes me worried what they are biting off adding on the Mac Mini market… but at least there are signs of life…? 😬

Humor me but the 4TB and 8TB Mac Mini M4 pro are at the same price.
And yes if they are ordering even the NAND flash at the time when their customer orders came in, they would not be dealing with new updated prices. The Mac mini pro 4TB upgrade is already on Amazon for $150 less than their asking price with prime delivery in the US.

I knew it was going to take a while, but it feels like the guy should have disabled the order buttons months ago to catch up instead of letting more pile up

Below are their advertised prices for the Mini. I have it set to $AUD.

Hello everyone,

I’ve mentioned this before, but I simply still don’t have the time to read the messages here.

The last 12 months have been pretty hectic, with:
  • Trump’s tariffs, which brought UPS logistics to a standstill and resulted in dozens of packages being returned and having to be reshipped at our expense
  • a serious health issue with my business partner (who hasn’t been able to work for several months), plus family matters on my end
  • two manufacturing issues (and NAND programming problems) with our batches 3 and 4.
  • in October, our suppliers’ breach of a major supply contract that we had paid for in advance, but which was canceled following the skyrocketing prices of NANDs
That’s a lot to handle.
Out of a sense of honesty (and the near-certain failure of any legal action), I absorbed all the cost of the supplier’s contract cancellation and the NAND price increase entirely on my own.
This turned the small profit I had made into a loss (I mention this because a few people have accused me of lining my own pockets).
I’m currently finishing up the corrections for the misprogrammed kits; it’s a massive undertaking.

I reiterate my apologies for all the shipping delays.

Many customers canceled their orders and got their $800–$900 back (on my end, each cancellation cost me fees).
Several customers dishonestly got refunds from their banks despite having received their deliveries—obviously, none of them came here to brag about it!

The hundreds of customers who waited patiently received kits that today cost no less than $1,500 (or much more at Apple).

I still have about a hundred left to deliver, and I apologize again.

There are now MacStudio kits sellers who are far more responsive than I am, and I’ve always said: that’s a good thing.

You should know that, in fact, a manufacturer in Shenzhen sells its products as white-label goods to several different sellers.
To be clear, the sellers that some people mention here have never designed anything, haven’t been in business long, don’t even test their products (they don’t even have testing equipment), and obviously haven’t written an installation manual.
They simply resell the products while pocketing a substantial markup.

To give you an idea, the “factory direct” purchase prices for the 8TB Mac Studio kits were around $700 three months ago and have risen to $1,050 right now.
Some sellers are therefore making a $600 profit without having designed or manufactured anything, taken any risks, or even written a manual.

I’ll readily admit, though, that they sell quickly and efficiently.

As for me, once I’ve finished clearing out my backlog and restored responsive customer service, I’ll start coming back here to answer questions.

I also plan to resume sales at that time, sourcing from the same manufacturer that supplies all the sellers: when no one was manufacturing, I had no choice but to do everything myself (PCB and soldering), but now that’s no longer necessary.
This will allow me to offer fast delivery times.

However, I will continue to test every board sent out (several hours of read/write testing).
Above all, I will continue to sell at a margin I consider reasonable, which I hope will, through competition, keep prices low for everyone—including my competitors (some do indeed "stick" to my prices !)

I’d like to remind you that I’ve always been committed to helping the Mac community:
  • I wrote a RAM guide in 2000 (to adapt PC RAM for Macs)
  • I contributed significantly to making NVMe SSD upgrades reliable and functional, with hundreds of posts here on MacRumors (by the way, thanks to my work, a forum reader founded a company, Fledging. He has thanked me several times for making his startup possible)
  • I was the first to add the full NVMe driver to the BootROM in Mac Pro 5,1 and all MacBook Air/Pro models, before Apple integrated it
  • and I was the first person in the world to prove that updates could be performed on Mac Studio models

In the future, I hope to finish developing a technique for replacing LCD panels that’s easier than using heat… but that’s not happening anytime soon !

Once again, I haven’t finished catching up yet with backlog, so I won’t be able to read the replies here right away—apologies in advance.

Thank you for popping back in @gilles_polysoft —honestly, any updates at all are nice to see 🙂
I still have about a hundred left to deliver
I think, speaking solely for myself, this info ⤴️ is about all I'd like to see updated on the main Polysoft page whenever you have a chance; it would give those still waiting on their orders a bit of a "countdown" to when they might (potentially) expect see their order's ship notice, though I realized unexpected delays can still arise. Right now though, the very sparse updates don't engender much faith in the process or give any guidance on when orders might actually get out the door.

Thanks for taking the time to come here and clarify some things. For us who ordered and paid in advance back in January, what estimate do you have very roughly for delivery?

Bro is still unresponsive, I'd like to see weekly updates, of you're this place in line. If they are truly doing the work they are claiming to be doing that should already internally be a thing.

Yeah after getting the copy paste reply that my order will be done in two weeks a month ago, i'm just annoyed. He should either refund or give people more updates to assure them.

Today is April 13th,

My order date is November 1st 2025... It has been 4 weeks since my last order update from Polysoft. In those updates I was informed that my shipment was to be shipped that week, and the order moved to processing state, see here: My last update.

While still hopeful that the order was on its way I reached on on 03/24/2026 (20 days ago) - This being over a week from when it was expected to ship and should have arrived.

No response.

On April 6th, a week ago, and 3 weeks past Polysofts shipping estimate I ask for again for a general expectation on when we I might expect the order, it obviously has not shipped.
1776091562063.png

No response here either.

During this period Polysoft took down their page, added new products, and posted this Update 🤷‍♂️ ... Things seem to be happening... just not what they said would be.

Today is day 164 of my order, thats 5 months and 13 days 🔥

Well, for as much grace that we can extend to Gilles given his circumstances, the behavior is outright unprofessional. People here have lowered their expectations down to just wanting a regular update but to me it is the long string of missed commitments which kills even the credibility of the updates. Gilles appears to have some serious business operations problems which is a shame because of the engineering prowess and resolve... as we often learn, that alone is not sufficient to run a successful business. I have charged back my CC and have long since been running on my 8TB upgrade from Ali.
